Title track from the Barabajagal record is great. I am also a fan of the live version of The Fat Angel; the original was kind of lazily psych-groovy but the live one is pretty relentless.
But yeah, Get Thy Bearings. What a tune. That whole Hurdy Gurdy Man record is brilliant.
Cold Rain & Snow: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wleTuLZL4Ro Danny Thompson's bass is in full force the whole time, but the beat drops just before 1:40, then the piano right around 2:00 too.
Croce can easily be argued to be consistently 'soulful' but this song just has a sweet down home country funk feel to it... the drums are impeccably produced, but I would love to hear a modern mix of it with the drums more up front and a bit dirtier.
