"Diagnosed with Lyme Disease, Any Info would help" Mon Apr-09-18 08:24 AM by Crisco
So I've been feeling like crap for about 3 straight months. Almost, Like a hangover that won't go away. Dull Headache, sluggish and lazy. Achy all the time etc. So the last few weeks this turned into Bed sweats and a fever damn near every night for 2 weeks.
I end up in the emergency room two weeks ago and they test me for Lymes Diseases. Bingo. Evidently, I was bitten by a deer tick at some point. I'm on some antibiotics for 2 weeks. But I'm told once you have it you will always have it. But does that mean I will have to deal with flare ups or will it stay dormant?
I need answers and info. Help.

to tell you what to expect.
Sorry to hear about this, though.
On the upside, from what I know, I think after an initial treatment it usually goes dormant pretty much forever. Again, I don't know what I'm talking about but this is the uninformed impression I have. I have an aunt who caught it in her early forties and didn't have any further flareups (as far as I know) for the rest of her life.

From my recollection, it took her the spring and summer before she was seemingly back to normal. That was over 20 years ago, I imagine treatment has improved.
5. "I had it 15 years ago. Have been fine* since treatment." In response to Reply # 0
My understanding is it's more likely to become 'chronic' if you go without treating it for great lengths of time before a diagnosis. At the time I was diagnosed, this was more likely if you did not exhibit multiple symptoms - ie, some people had chronic fatigue, others had chronic joint pain, and since many things can cause those doctors weren't looking at Lyme from jump.
I was lucky in a way because I had everything come on quickly - starting with joint pain on maybe a Thursday and high fever/night sweats/skin rash/nausea by Sunday. Was feeling much better within 2 or three days of starting a doxicyclene prescription.
*And by fine, I mean no Lyme symptoms that I'm aware of.

Scary part is I have no idea when I got bit. We in the middle of winter was it last summer. I do know that January this year is when I started feeling out of sorts. Just thought I was drinking to much and needed to slow down. But I kept getting flu like symptoms that wouldn't stay away.

That chronic fatigue is real. all I wanted to do was sleep. Couldn't get enough. No joint pain I can think of. Other than normal aging or so I thought. My Doctor has been misdiagnosing me for at least 3 months. Thank God I went to the ER last Monday.

The night sweats are the worst. I'v ehad 2 full weeks of them. Ive been on meds 4 days and they are getting better. Just seems like the center of the heat in my chest that cause the sweats is getting smaller hence less sweat. I cant wait to have no night sweats then I know I am back to normal.

Isn't that one of those now you got it for life type things? maaaaan I sincerely hope it's not as bad as all that and you manage well. smh... I feel for you though that's some seriously lousy luck.

Trying let these meds really work so I never had to feel this crappy ever again. haven't had a drink in almost 3 weeks. Meds seem to be working but I'm still getting a little night sweats in the am. But I still have 7 days of meds to go.
I wouldn't wish this bullsh*t on nobody. I want to slap my Doctor. Went to him 5 times this year saying I don't feel right. Something is off. He kept tellingme to take Tylenol and that it's viral and will go away. Idiot!!
One visit to ER and they test for Lymes. Jackpot

I had to go to 5 different doctors before one got it right and found the tumor I had on my spine... came close to never walking again dealing with the doctors that wouldn't listen or think and wanted to just give me pain meds instead of send me to a neurologist.

Glad they found your tumor.

I know little about Lyme disease. I used to camp all the time as a kid, and I've only found 4-5 ticks on me total. Never knew anyone diagnosed with it.
24. "Damn Wyatt Sexton had a bad case of Lymes" In response to Reply # 19
Wyatt Sexton (born July 20, 1984) is a former National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) American football quarterback for the Florida State Seminoles. Sexton is well known for his performances on the field and for his suffering from the effects of Lyme disease. Sexton's career ended after he was doused with pepper spray by police officers who found him lying in the street and proclaiming himself as God in June 2005. Although Sexton was already suspended from the team at the time due to erratic behavior stemming from the disease, including failing to take a drug test, and unusual behavior in practice. The aforementioned incident prompted his indefinite suspension and a prolonged battery of medical tests which ultimately revealed the disease.
I heard if not diagnosed for years it can lead to brain lesions.

He said I should take my antibiotics for at least 20 days at first not just 10. And that I the Lyme's should lay dormant forever after that. Luckily, my insurance allows me to have two primary care physicians. My original dr I will keep around to call in Prescriptions and this new guy will be like a life coach to keep me healthy to live a long life.
I'm feeling about 90% so far. I know I'm getting better because my Dills is back in action. I went almost 3 weeks without any. I haven't done that since high school. LOL
