"Poll question: If Biggie were still alive..."

Just found this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KTGR0Ycw1Ho&feature=youtu.be

it was a weird glimpse into what-could-have-been. Like, if after talking about busting guns for so long he decided to go a bit more pop, which was kinda the path he was on with all the RnB features.

If Biggie were still alive where do you think he would be today?

Then again, if Biggie were alive, then I wonder if in this scenario Tupac would still be alive which might mean the whole landscape of the rap/hip hop space might be different OR maybe death elevated their place.

THIS IS NOT A REVISIONIST POST.

Poll result (14 votes)
Completely still relevant within 5 years of having had a song on the radio (2 votes)Vote
Semi relevant, i.e. Wu, Redman, etc (7 votes)Vote
Gone the way of most Bad Boy artists; forgotten (4 votes)Vote

Producing/behind the boards (1 votes)Vote

He'd have respect but the times probably would have passed him by like it does with most of the 90s MCs. He might have continued to make music for his faithful fans but his period of being hot would've ended.

He was more than talented enough. And as hip-hop became more of a crossover phenomenon, I think he could have fit in pretty well in the early 2000s.

But eventually, some new rapper would have taken his spot.

LOL...you right though.

Can you imagine 4:44 being Biggie's album? Him rapping 'grown man raps' about fucking around on Faith? Or her 'Lemonade'.

It would be interesting, no doubt.

For some reason I always associate the "Sky's the Limit" video to Tupac's "Do For Love" video in that, in both cases the producers had to get creative and they both nailed it. Totally different videos (cartoon vs. the "young Biggie" approach) but like I said for whatever reason I always think of one when I think of the other.

I see him as another Snoop:

crossover star who all YT know for those couple of huge pop smash hit records
small movie roles here and there, couple of catchphrases,
a hit record every 5-6 years or so (ask Fat Joe), and a pop culture reference point

Rick Ross. He could've moved south post-Puffy and been a more dope Rick Ross. He would have been great on those Justice League songs. Oh, and that commission album would have happened. Who knows who the lady rapper would have ultimately been, but Jay and Big probably would have happened. I enjoyed the hell out of that mashup years ago.

The same Puffy that had a brief EDM phase and ended up signing one of the weakest rappers in NYC strictly based on street buzz.

Bad Boy artists are disposable to Puffy in the long run.
They are just a vehicle for his vibe and product placement.

The only way I see Biggie having a longer career is if he ditched Bad Boy
And I just can't see Junior Mafia morphing into a movement like The Lox had with D-Block for a minute.

As far as rapping, Biggie had not even come close to peaking. He had at least one more classic album in him. We really missed out on some good music by having him die so young. I count his pointless death as one of hip-hop's biggest Ls.

Only relevant within his core fanbase. Young fans would still like the artist of today. I doubt he would be as popular today as he was before he died.

To what degree is really anybodies guess, but the eastcoast in particular might have a very different landscape in terms of catalogs.

Someone like Just or Ye putting out those BP tracks under bad boy, perhaps? Big gettin What's Luv instead of Joe? I dunno, i mean obviously nothi g at all could have changed but i imagine a good handful of beats wouuld have resulted in different songs.
