After "the ratchet LORD came down upon mount Sinai", Cardi went up briefly and returned and prepared the people, and then in Exodus 20 "God spoke" to all the people the words of the covenant, that is, the "ten commandments" as it is written.

basically this shit is gonna be the bible to them.

Like she managed to flip ‘I Like It Like That’ which should have been the most stereotypical latin song ever and made it work and fun. It’s a flashback to when let’s say a vintage era Rawse or Gucci would drop something right before drop top weather.

The sad thing is how come in 2018 is the first time a woman is getting to drop a big trap release? Like dudes complaining about mumble rap which I like but come on… there wasn’t a female MC that couldda got put on before Lil Pump? LOL. Shows you how hard it is for a female rapper.

I skimmed through a few mixtapes when she first started buzzing and it was hella inconsistent. Some songs worked, a lot didn't.

Seems like she got on and got focused. But yeah, I think the prevailing attitude is, there can on be an A and a B or a just an A when it comes to female MC's. Nicki wore out her run. Kim had Foxy on here heels but it was Kim, until Lauren then she couldn't focus so Eve took it then after RR fell off and Trina was right there as her "B", Remy was up next after "Lean Back" until jail and then Nicki jumped in.

Would be cool if we had 4-5+ women popping at the same time.

Like I get why there’s only X amount of space in the female pop lane. But when you’ve got hot mixtapes basically done by a bunch of people in a smoked out living room and a macbook, it’s kinda nuts how there hasn’t been like a female Burrprint, Flockavelli, Sremmlife, 56 Nights, etc. You’ve got Kamaiyah and id argue it’s under a different system (aka, West Coast who tend to support their own).

So it had to be a rapping stripper/IG model to do it. Those two roles are where women have fit in in the trap culture.

Cardi also has TV on her side to boost her signal even more. I knew of her from that before I heard her rap.

Female fans...

Female fans need an aspirational woman.. something they strive towards, respect and want to be...

Male artists just gotta talk fly...

How many female cult leaders do you know of? In history?

Always been easier for men to gain control and lead a flock...

So in any genre any dude with one song can get motion faster than a woman.. as long as it bangs.

Cardi is none of that for me.

Hot beats, fun lyrics, some bravado and danceability...plus an awesome come up/underdog story...i'm all in .

Kanye & Cardi are 2 sides of the same coin to me... I love hip hop but the difference is I don't automatically discount women like alot of y'all dudes do

I listen to Sammus, Noname, Dej, Kiyanne etc etc I'm not pitting Nicki against anyone cuz i love her too...Latifah, Lyte, Missy i'm all in for any woman out here trying to rhyme around some insecure ass dicks

The underdog story is extremely aspirational. The person who says whatever she wants when she wants is extremely aspirational and admirable.

tbh Cardi is 50 cent 2.0... the mixtapes to the album 50 where the ground swell was insane. w/o the BS bullyin though

The question I answered isnt about that though. We are talking about the mechanism for women to come through the system and blow. They talked above about Trap genre women.

There is no female counterpart to Chance the Rapper, XXX or even G Eazy, Logic. Look at those guys core fans. There is a LARGE % of women. Every female artist we mentioned that has blown has not done it through the indie space. Rapsody even mentioned on the breakfast club that her fanbase currently is 75-95% male. This is a huge issue because guys aren't going to be the ones to get her to the next level. Guys don't typically go solo (or in groups) to women rap shows, buy merch from women, buy albums at scale from women.

Why?

SZA was able to scale not only because the project and its subject matter was dope but because she retooled her entire image.. lost weight, glammed all the way up. She talked about things people could relate/conect to AND was bad a fuck doing it.

Thats what gets female fans to buy in at scale. And dudes could literally just show up in a white tee and fake chain and be good

ok yes, you're right. i understand where you're coming from and it is a huge issue...the barriers are still huge. nobody is talking about Jean Grae when her album is 10x better than Cardi's...

i got into Pat because my buddy back in high school had like 2 sleeves of burned Pat CDs (and some Three 6) that he couldn't sell* so he just gave them all to me like "nobody wants this shit so it must be wack, you can have them"

i remind our classmates of that all the time.

*this is like 06 Snowman, Gucci, TI era. everybody was on them.

https://www.thefader.com/2018/04/06/cardi-bs-invasion-of-privacy-is-already-gold/amp?

Cardi B's debut album Invasion of Privacy came out at midnight, and it's already certified gold. According to Chart Data, the immediate certification is thanks to "Bodak Yellow," which had already reached 5x multi-platinum status .
"'Bodak Yellow' has 5m units certified by the RIAA," Chart Data explained in a tweet. "Because 10 track units = 1 album sale, the album has 500k+ units. These units will not be included in official first week numbers."
A similar situation happened with Drake and "Hotline Bling," which appeared on Views months after it was released. Still, according to a press release, this slight technicality makes Cardi the first woman artist to achieve gold certification on her record's release day. She celebrated with a surprise visit from her "whole family," flown in by fiancé Offset.

Make no mistake, tho. It ain't hate in my heart that fuels my slight antagonism towards her, its the racist comments that she shot at African Women that tainted my perception of her, 'specially considering that she has Afro-Latino blood.

I have no place in my heart for self-hatred.

But, that aside, I can dig your stance and appreciate you
vindicating her after da fact given your trajectory.

"Drip" sounds like a Culture II leftover, which is saying a lot, considering that album has 24 tracks. "Money Bag" and "She Bad" are filler. Everything else is pretty good. "Best Life," "I Like It," and "Ring" are gonna be big. The energy and subject matter of "Get Up 10" make for a damn good opener. "Thru Your Phone" sounds like a Nicki Minaj record, but it's done well. "Be Careful" was a great choice for a single, since it shows versatility, and is the best song on here.

Where the buzz was inescapable in the run up to the album - then it actually delivered. She’s as charismatic as 50. Bodak Yellow hit like Wanksta hit. It’s a phenomenon, one we’ve seen before. Happy for her.

I was talking about her needing to release a single this year not too far from the album release date to pop like In Da Club did. In other news, haters can't call her a one-hit wonder now that Bartier Cardi has just went Platinum.

This is a different kind of ERA..

50 hat hits when people could go Diamond.. you needed a singular thing to propel you.

Cardi has 5 songs on the Hot 100 (before the album)....

I heard Be Careful 6 times while shopping yesterday

She is all def 50... even the way they pit her against Nicki (jay-z) same thing

and it's nearly as big as "In da club." It might be a Top Five record for the decade, and possibly the biggest female Rap record ever. Especially in the club, but for sure on the charts.

(well, not even really the reference track. Just the original artist performing it a few years ago)

So I doubt they will keep that as a single

Fortunately she seems to have enough backup options to choose from.

As for the state of female rappers overall,
there's enough putting out music
Remy, dej, rapsody, noname, tank, princess Nokia, oshun, leikeli, sampha

And Even at the soundcloud/worldstar level

Mainstream just ain't listening. Or one track might kinda pop but The window closes right back up quick

Nicki didnt exist in an era where this album could be made..

Everyone loved Nicki rapping but "Your Love" was her break out single... she had to follow it.

Nicki fought and won in an era of overly manufactured pop superstardom, Katy, Gaga, Taylor, Rih and Bey were all in there most voltron like form.

If this was another female hip-hop artist I'd critique the fuck out of her. It's like you hating if you judge her as an emcee. Knowing she didn't write all these songs low-key fucks with me as I expect at least some songwriting competency.

The production is great. She's won and is basically someone to root for due to her origin story. Don't judge this by emcee hip-hop standards but as a young artist finding her way. With all that said, this album is fun and sounds great. The wait was worth it.

She raps like those white dudes on YouTube with kids that remake DMX songs about drop off times at private school.

She raps like it’s Biggie night at the karaoke bar on Myrtle Ave.

She raps like someone reading words off a paper. Except the words are emoji.
