People actin like PuertoRican DOESN'T mean Black.

I've BEEN tryna school GD on this shit.

North America ain't the only place that has Black people.

PuertoRico's national music is Bomba & Plena, which is Black PuertoRican music(Afro-PuertoRican/Afro-Rican/Afro-Boriquen for those unfamiliar with Afro-Latin cultures/nomenclature).

Shit like this is exactly why when people say HipHop is Black & Latino, its like saying HipHop is Black & Black.

..as a primer for those oblivious to the indelible Africanity
of PuertoRico, an Africanity that exceeds our own here in the states:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYuI7ZaO4sA&t=2091s

note: The artist in album/video is William Cepeda's group called Afro-Boricua, but Cepeda heads another group called William Cepeda's Afro-Rican Jazz Ensemble which includes member's from the 1st group. Whats important here is that the Cepeda family is HIGHLY-RESPECTED in PR for resiliently retaining their Yoruba-African cultural traditions all the way down to language(similar to Cuba's Yoruba population, PR's Yoruba population still spreaks their indigenous Yoruba language) GD ninjaz need ta KNOW this by now.

>they will cede to their African roots when pressed....but
>generally they shy away from that.

^Those individuals you speak of our the self-hating exception, not the rule. I'll never forget when my band traveled to PR and were surrounded by nothing but beautiful Africana who were making African drums right there on the spot on some, "Excuse me Brodda, I make you a drum, see?..*grabs tools and carves tree trunk*

It was one Afro-Rican OG with his daughter, she might of been about 4 or 5, and Sun pulled my bandmate to the side and said this verbatim:

"Look Brodda, you see her? *points to daugher*...she's AFRICAN! All of us here are AFRICAN and we've maintained our culture here. Everyone on the island knows this and respects it. When you get back to the states you make sure to tell your people that!"

And now its been told to you so the mission is complete.

I can jewel this post up but it will take a whole lotta time
that I don't feel like wasting so I'll just letchall ninjaz
marinate on the info above for a minute.

Its inevitable that I'll simply have to make an entirely seperate
Afro-Latino Cultural thread to break dis shit down so dat it don't neva need ta be broke no mo'!

Dig dis, all the Afro-Boriquas that I've met were proud of their respective Africanity. Also, they were well-aware of the self-hating demographic that existed as well and would put ME on game.

Crab ninjaz don't just exist on Nas records, dem ninjaz ERRYWHERE.

FluidJ, from the data that you yield me, your primary interactions have been with either: self-hating Afro-Boriquas, or non-African Indio-genic Boriquas that had issues with Africana as a whole.

index: Indio-genic specifically refers to the indigenous Taino Indians whom were colonized by the Spanish-Europeans in PuertoRico. Once colonized, the Spanish-Europeans applied socio-economic pressure on the indigenous inhabitants to assimilate the Blanco culture and *deny the Afro culture.

Believe me Blak, I can go as deep as you want to......

....IF you want to.

Its all love either way, Blak but per my African blood, I'll be damned if I watch GD blindly ignore a very vital part of their Africanic heritage merely off of euro-engineered ignorance.

People are just really ignorant. Bruno is a brown man. I don't think black people let certain people get a black pass. Like Miguel is black but Bruno isn't right? Is it the hair, the direct African lineage? All I know is Maxwell is obviously of African descent.

Bruno we had to research and guess. I think after all that we've been through in America, we can decide who is black and who isn't.

I have no beef with Bruno. ButI do agree that Finesse sounds like Bobby Brown Kareoke and it is unoriginal.

Bruno and Maxwell are one of the black puerto ricans.

Besides that, the Brun Mars is appropiating black music dumb ass argument fails to realize the role that Puerto Ricans had in birthing hip-hop,.

To be surjically-specific, HipHop is the inevitable cultural cross-pollenation of the Afro-American, Afro-Carribean, and Afro-Latino.
The African rhythm-&-dance aesthetic shared by, and retained by all 3 is what made HipHop what it is. It will always come down to the drum.

Thus, the Afro-trifecta. I broke this down in The Lesson years ago.

the culture vulture part comes from his lack of creativity and his racial makeup, not just the racial makeup

fixed it for you...

cause this is the real issue folks have with Bruno. He makes pop hits and 99% of pop hits aren't soulful or original. That's why it's called pop music.

he might have avoided this whole conundrum but since he wanted to jump genres and pick easily recognizable hits to do it, the culture vulture label got attached.

gotdamn. why cant this bruno shit just die already.

Either you listen to his music or you do not listen to his music.

Its been established where he is from and what his influences are.

People won't be happy until we're either all..

bending over backwards to kiss his latte colored ass

OR

completely banning him from ever being able to even touch or THINK about touching a musical instrument ever again.

Prince and Michael are dead, get over it.

but thats because I think the world has changed and he represents the time that he was in.

Actual music theory in popular music is a no go.
Actual strong instrumentation in pop music is a no go.
Actual hard won talent in pop music is a no go.

Were he starting out today his image and sound would be altered to fit the times which has a different value system from yesterday.

Maxwell was 100% all the way tryna be a mix of sade and leon ware though..

his influences were also fairly obvious..

Bruno doing what he did on his 3rd album is no different than Raphael Siddiq or R Kelly doing a retro album..

Bruno's first joint was not a nostalgic throwback joint at all...

People are really just mad at Uptown Funk success and 24kt

Don't worry Bruh.
Per this thread, and a myriad of others where GD has shown a white-people-esque ignorance towards culture regarding Latin America, I myself shall endure the task of shedding snake-skin light on
the undeniable ethno-cultural impact of Africana in Latin America.

I've actually been planning this as far back as my previous login-name but never got around to it. But its coming, my people NEED this.
