For a very long time, I took animal abcuse for granted. My thoughts were shallow on this subject until I got a beautiful pitbull puppy that had been abused in all types of ways. It was very difficult dealing with this dog because the only person that could come close to this dog was me. This dog lived about 3-1/2 years and died of liver complications. Before I got this puppy, I had got a puppy from a good friend of mine; it was obvious that this dog had been mistreated because this dog was about 2 months old and had a tight rubber band around her tail, so that her tail could rot off as opposed to taking the dog to the vet and having the tail professional clipped. This dog, a Rottweiler, Pitbull, Doberman Pinscher combo had bite marks around the neck and this dog was skinny as hell!!! I took care of this dog and she turned out to be a beautiful, healthy well mannered friendly dog and lived to get 14 years old.
When the dog with the liver problem passed away, it hurt me so badly due to the fact that this beautiful dog could have lived a very long life if he had been taken care of properly. After he passed away, I sought a dog at my local animal shelter, which during that time, I cried everyday. I became a volunteer there 2-1/2 years ago and I am still a very active member of this local shelter. Within this time that I have been working at the shelter, I have seen some unbelievable situations with dogs and cats. I have many stories of ugly abuse towards these animals. Abandonment, beating and severe abuse is at the top of the list.
Once these dogs come to the shelter, they cannot be adopted until they are spayed or neutered, which cuts the population. Humans are abusing dogs and cats at alarming rates and even some shelters kill and abuse a lot of them. Dogs and cats come into the shelters everyday and most of them have horror stories.
I have a 2-1/2 year old red nose Pitbull which I got as a puppy and he was skin and bones when I got him; would you believe this dog came from one of them holy church peoples home??? I see people that abuse dogs around me and some that use the dogs just for breeding and making a little money and don't take care of the mother or the puppies.
We are losing dogs and cats at an alarming rate. Cats do stand a better chance of surviving because they are independent and can hide and breed without being caught, but with dogs the story is different. Dogs are dependent on us and they don't have much of a choice, their lives rest within the hands of humans.
I have been really thinking about dogs becoming extinct and it scares me!!! I do believe I can try to fight to survive a lot of things that go on here on this earth by putting up a strong fight, but I will be truthful and say that if the day comes where there is no more dogs or access to having a dog as a pet, I will throw in the towel; I don't want to be on this earth...What is your opinion ???
