proudly recite violent lyrics calling women bitches and hoes, about destroying their own communities with drugs, written by their sons. I mean, I get it that these kinds of lyrics are just the norm now, but that don't mean they should be, or that they're something we should be proud of as a people. It's like our destruction was just outlined right before us... absent fathers and mothers who gladly cosign absolute fuckery. The fact that a cat says something like "ho bitches get fucked on the floor" and "I just wanna make my mama proud" in the same song while his mother enthusiastically sings both lines with him is a LOT to unpack. We have a dude talking about selling drugs out his mother's house with the aid of his mother (with no talk of remorse) and folks are like "awww that's so cute." Nah that ain't cute at all. Sure their moms obviously approve this message, but that's problematic in itself. And Mori will be on here next week solely blaming men for this kind of behavior lol. It's their own mothers who actively cosign it. This isn't just toxic masculinity, but toxic femininity, toxic community and so on. Very interesting response I'm seeing to this video. I'm pretty sure this same video with fathers would be met with "that's what's wrong with our men, their fathers cosign this 'misogynoir' and toxicity" or whatever. This video would be cool if lyrics were different. Here I just see mamas who ratchetly enjoy being part of the problem. It's great that their mothers still love them despite their actions, but this should be a really sad song with a really sad feeling, because this whole thing is sad as hell. It's definitely not a happy occasion that we're in this condition as a people. I would've liked to see some commentary on the gov't that systemically created these conditions, but nevermind that... it's soooo cuuuute that we wallow in dysfunction.

while everything you've said is true, i can't divorce all of that from the white supremacy that created it, and in some cases, made it necessary for survival
i don't approve at all of that lifestyle, but i didn't live it. i have no real experience or connection to it and they are living their truth....i survived what i survived, tho, and did things many wouldn't approve of in order to survive...
I liked the concept of the video and the general message of how everybody is just generally trying to make their momma proud
hate the bitch and ho shit (as y'all already know about me) and no i won't be paying to see any of these artists in concert lol
again, there are so many layers of conversation to be had about this and i'm glad you illuminated this for the post. it needs to always be reminded.

it's one thing to get through and get over but: criminality should not be an anchor of "Blackness"
getting the mothers in the video to celebrate their "true crime" backgrounds is an original concept. it's just not a concept i particularly wanted to see. looks almost like a parody.
