"Poll question: was Heavy D and Snoop Doggy Dogg the most versatile east and west coast ..."

to me Heavy D and Snoop Dogg are and were the two most versatile rappers from both coasts. these cats can do whatever style
and make it work.

i miss Heavy D because he had cuts and his slow jams were the truth.
Snoop can do whatever aside from Snoop Lion. everything else is cool

The dude goes toe to toe with Buju. For a rapper to be able to fall back on that level?? Busta is the only other cat I would even give that to. And there is a pretty fair share of rappers with West Indian/Caribbean roots.

I mean, he had the hottest verse in 1991 AND in 2011....one on a 1991 NY Super Boom Bap track, and the other on a slow, commercial Trap song.

What I find annoying about Busta is that he has been rapping about the same thing for 20 years.

You 50 trying to make a club anthem. SMH.

but when LL goes "battlerhyme blackout" that dude is untouchable

those cancel out

heavy doesn't have ANYTHING like the original rock the bells: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWaAEStI3wA

both have party jams (we got out own than vs the jinglin baby remix?)

so...

who is overall better (or even favorite) is a hard one

before it became a thing for rappers to expand their repertoire. The West? Snoop? I would say 2Pac. But Snoop is definitely up there.

Rest In Peace, Bad News Brown

the same dude that did this:

battlerap: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBZM9aLgXR0

did this:

club rap: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QwqBr8HXhyw (loungin remix]

and this:

storytelling: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=84LUpG6ieis {big ol butt}

and this:

- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHgF1TPHtlg {FATHER}

and this:

love rap (a category which you can argue he INVENTED): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TkiIwV6m0zk {I can give you more}

these aren't one offs in any category

how is that *not* a "compelling" argument for versatility?

scoff if you want, but that kinda just shows you aren't as mart as you seem to think you are (no diss)

for grins:

what category/song in my list is that "you can't see" the equivalent of?

this isn't a front-on-heavyD thing

I *love* that dude - and that song (though, to me, its a tier 2 joint from heavy D)

but there *is* a discussion to be had when we start talking best/most

yeah I dunno somewhere between battle and club?.. that beat with the b's brew sample is just sick imo.. ish is almost underground sounding.

you called my bluff tho I'm not well enough versed to go point for point on this... plus I suffer from an unreasonable disdain for LL because I always felt Kool was better and LL relied on beats too much and resorted to wackness in their beef.

this is interesting to me

"relied on beats too much"

in their battle or in general?

ll can *SPIT* (as could KMD)

what wackness did he resort to?

*not picking a side, just NEVER heard these arguments before*

without going through it track by track and line for line I feel that most people give LL the nod for winning but I also feel that KMD's lyricism was tighter and more imaginative and that LL while tight started bringing a little more violence and disrespect into it (kinda foreshadowing where the culture as a whole went) and what really won it for him were the beats on jack the ripper and said knock em out.

like everything in this poast it's an opinion maybe not the most objective one.

I concede you may be right about LL over Heavy... you certainly backed it up evidence... now that you understand my position on LL(admittedly highly subjective) let's go back to my original scoff and look at Busta.. I love Busta and the whole Flipmode but they've been making the same 5 or 6 songs for decades and while Bustas lyricism and pace is crazy it's so unabashedly Busta over and over again it's kinda corny.

I dig myself into holes in these kind of conversations mind you so it's not at all serious.
