Billy Graham was a truly great man. Say what you want, no one can deny the impact that his ministry has on the body of Christ and the movement of the Gospel in the modern ear. The man was a real Evangelist of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The world has lost a greaat soilder of the Kingdom of God, but he will hear "Well done my good and faithful servant.

Billy Graham, 'America's Pastor' And Noted Evangelist, Dead At 99
HuffPost Jade Walker,HuffPost

Billy Graham, the famed evangelist who became known as “America’s Pastor,” has died at the age of 99, The Associated Press reported.

Graham died at his home Wednesday morning from natural causes, a family spokesman told ABC News.

Born in 1918 in Charlotte, North Carolina, William Franklin Graham Jr. was the oldest of the four children of William and Morrow

Graham. He was raised on a dairy farm, and little in his childhood suggested he would become a world-renowned preacher.

Then at 16, Graham attended a series of revival meetings run by outspoken evangelist Mordecai Ham. The two months he spent listening to Ham’s sermons on sin sparked a spiritual awakening in Graham and prompted him to enroll at Bob Jones College. When the conservative Christian school’s strict doctrine didn’t align with his personal beliefs, he transferred to the Florida Bible Institute (now Trinity College of Florida) and joined a Southern Baptist Convention church. He was ordained in 1939.

Graham received additional training at Illinois’ Wheaton College, where he met his future wife, Ruth McCue Bell. They were married for 64 years, until her death in 2007, and had five children.

After serving briefly as the pastor of the First Baptist Church in Western Springs, Illinois, Graham launched his first radio program, “Songs in the Night,” in 1943. Although he left a year later, Graham liked the idea of sharing his message with a wide audience. As noted on his website, Graham took Jesus Christ literally when he said in Mark 16:15: “Go ye into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature.”

Graham was still in his early 30s when entered the public spotlight by giving a series of well-attended “sin-smashing” revival meetings that were held under a circus tent in a Los Angeles parking lot. The press took interest in the charismatic young preacher and began writing articles about him. To get his message to even more people, Graham founded his own ministry, the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.

Graham viewed the Bible as the infallible word of God. He believed that Jesus led a sinless life and that all men were lost and would face God’s judgment. Most importantly, he was convinced he must use “every modern means of communication available” to spread the Gospel throughout the world, and did so in print, on radio and television, online and in person.

Graham’s sermons promoted evangelism and railed against “godless communism,” drugs, sex and violence. And for the next five decades, his electric personality connected with audiences in more than 185 countries.

Graham was the first evangelist of note to speak behind the Iron Curtain, and during the Apartheid era he refused to visit South Africa until the government allowed integrated seating at his events. He published dozens of best-selling books, including Angels: God’s Secret Agents and The Jesus Generation, and wrote a weekly column that was syndicated in hundreds of newspapers.

Graham received numerous honors, including the Horatio Alger Award, the George Washington Honor Medal, the Ronald Reagan Freedom Award and the Congressional Gold Medal. A highway in Charlotte bears his name, as does part of Interstate 240 near his home in Asheville, North Carolina. In 1989, he became the first clergyman to be granted a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his work as a minister.

Graham also had a major effect on the civil rights movement of the 1950s and ’60s. His early crusades were segregated, but once the U.S. Supreme Court issued its landmark Brown v. Board of Education ruling in 1954, which found public school segregation unconstitutional, Graham integrated the seatings at his revival meetings.

Graham befriended the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. as well, and together they preached to more than 2 million people in New York City. When questioned about his views on faith and race, Graham argued there was no scriptural basis for segregation.

As his message spread, Graham was granted personal audiences with royalty, dignitaries and many sitting presidents, from Harry S. Truman to Barack Obama. Three presidents were even on hand in 2007 for the dedication of the Billy Graham Library in Charlotte. Despite being a registered Democrat, Graham opposed the candidacy of John F. Kennedy, and actively encouraged other religious leaders to speak out about the dangers of having a Roman Catholic in the White House.

Though beloved by millions, Graham was not without his detractors. Some fundamentalist Christians took issue with his ecumenical approach to evangelism, and after his 1957 crusade in New York, opponents of Graham’s more liberal theology began calling him “the Antichrist.” According to the biography Billy: A Personal Look at Bill Graham, the World’s Best-Loved Evangelist by Sherwood Eliot Wirt, one Christian educator even said that Graham was “the worst thing to happen to the Christian church in two thousand years.” More recently, detractors blasted Graham’s continued belief that homosexual behavior was a “sinister form of perversion,” and his intolerance against the very presence of gay and lesbian couples within Christianity.

As his health began to fail, Graham decided to announce his retirement in 2005. His final sermon, “The Cross ― Billy Graham’s Message To America,” called for a national spiritual awakening.

Nina Golgowski contributed reporting.

quick lesson:

when addressing (or responding to) someone directly and the word "you" (as in "you all" or the derivation/abbreviation "y'all") of used

by English grammatical rules the person to whom the words are directed usually thinks they are being referred to

as a suggestion....

with the full understanding that the internet allows for a looser brand of grammar, it is still a good idea to be as specific as possible

as a "moderator" that might be helpful as a means of modeling conduct

or

YOU (--->>>> RJCC <<<<---- added for emphasis so YOU know exactly to whom I am addressing. see how that works?) could be a little less sloppy when spraying your unique brand of "personality" all over

>I have no idea where you got that idea, but you should return
>to that place and get your money back.

upon reading the above reply I thought:

- So, in addition to this clown poasting up an RIP post - which has historically been a fairly big no-no on the OKP boards (and the other mods and admins are watching it go down silently for whatever reason), he is NOW either displaying a lack of elementary-school-level knowledge or baiting to see how far he can play dumb to keep getting responses (quite like a child who keeps asking questions not for knowledge sake but to be an irritant).

I was tempted to give the benefit of the doubt (he COULDN'T be that dumb). But then, I realized who I was talking to. So...

grammar for dummies lesson 2:

briefly by way of proof:

Given 1:

"you" = The pronoun you is the second-person personal pronoun, both singular *and* plural, and both nominative and oblique case in Modern English.

Given 2:
"yall" = A shortening of the phrase "you all," which is also used in its full form as a plural address.

therefore

"you" = "yall" (see: transitive property: www.mathwords.com/t/transitive_property.htm -> if a=b and b=c, then a=c)

QED.

support:
1. http://www.dictionary.com/browse/you
2. http://mentalfloss.com/article/12916/yall-youse-8-english-ways-make-you-plural
3. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/You
4. https://www.duolingo.com/comment/36604/Plural-vs-Singular-You
5. https://www.economist.com/blogs/johnson/2013/01/pronouns

With all that said (stupid <--- for RJCC. again being specific who I am addressing to as an example to him of how that works), the question asked follows this timeline:

YOU (RJCC) after my direct response to a question by isaaaa decided to chime in (in keeping with the festering human scab that you love to show yourself to be) with "y'all say "oh, he apologized".

I ask again:

WHO is the "you all" you are referring to (and, secondarily: why are you making your assertion in *that* place within the post)?

*IF* its a matter of you having made a mistake and accidentally replying in the wrong place, simply stating that - rather than being defiant (if it wasn't you, it ain't you) - is a better way to be a moderator and facilitate healthy, peaceful discourse. If you are into that kinda thing

alternately,

*IF* its a matter of you continuing to be a weird, fake, scummy little troll; randomly spewing internet bile, and fellating yourself though a keyboard - well then, I guess you cannot help but be who you are and do what you do. I will continue to pity you and hope someday you are less that and more an actual human

according to your theory, you = all. because transitive.

I've never seen someone carefully write out something so detailed and so hilariously wrong.

raggedy moderator? check

failure at elementary school grammar? check

bad at algebra *and* comprehension? check

overall waste of tissue, oxygen, space, time, and existance? *been* done shown that

keep typing so we can add that to the ever growing resume of how *you* are literally the worst thing on this entire site in its history

never once have you contributed in any meaningful way

you never present an original thought or anything that adds to the discourse beyond trolling and flamebait

you are the literal manifestation of statler and waldorf....on a message board

you are a shell-less and bitter peanut floating in the gallery toilet with zero purpose or potential to add.

just frothing, foaming, and creating a stench

you. are. horrible.

and you take pride in it

congrats on reaching emeritus status in the winners of the leaky scumbag olympics

for the sake of clarity...

i don't hate you. you are a curious nuisance at best

there's no point in hating a tapeworm, leech, or virus

parasites parasite - that is what they do

to hate you would feed your necropathic narcissism. i get that you are one of those people on that "hate makes me stronger" who live by the weird gospel of "negative attention is better than being ignored"

hating you would give exactly what you want

hating you would be a level on consideration you don't deserve and definitely aren't getting from ME

when I see solid animal waste (especially one with an OK stamped on it), observe and step around it. Or, if available, I will take the time to do something which will hopefully keep others from inadvertently stepping in it.

i don't "hate" it

this little foray was that from my perspective.

eventually entropy will finish bleaching you and you'll wash away to feed the next thing like you (circle of life and whatnot)

Can't wait for the barrage of youtube clips about how millions remember him dying in the 80's/90's, and how they weren't merely mistaken but those memories were in fact from some alternate reality and that the "new" death is just an example of "they"/"them" course correcting or some other convoluted nonsense.

Let the entertainment begin!

Is advocating the murder of Vietnamese peasants serving God or Mammon?

http://www.nypress.com/billy-graham-war-criminal/

Billy Graham: War Criminal
ALEXANDER COCKBURN
PUBLISHED MAR 19, 2002 AT 6:01 AM (UPDATED FEB 16, 2015)

There's a piquant contrast in the press coverage of Billy Graham's conversations with Nixon, as displayed on the tapes gradually released from the National Archive or disclosed from Nixon's papers. Back in April l989, a Graham memo to Nixon was made public. It was dated April 15, 1969, and was drafted after the evangelist met in Bangkok with missionaries from Vietnam. These men of God said that if peace talks in Paris were to fail, Nixon should step up the war and bomb the dikes, which, Graham wrote, "could overnight destroy the economy of North Vietnam."

Graham lent his imprimatur to this recommendation. Thus Graham was advocating a policy to the U.S. Commander-in-Chief that on Nixon's own estimate would have killed a million people. The German High Commissioner Seyss-Inquart was sentenced to death at Nuremberg for breaching dikes and other crimes in Holland in World War II. (His execution did not deter the USAF from destroying the Toksan dam in North Korea, in 1953, thus deliberately wrecking the system that irrigated 75 percent of North Korea's rice farms.)

This disclosure of Graham as an aspirant war criminal did not excite any commotion when it became public.

Very different has been the reception of a new tape revealing Graham, Nixon and Haldeman palavering about Jewish domination of the media, and Graham invoking the "stranglehold" Jews have on the media. On the account of James Warren in the Chicago Tribune, who has filed excellent stories down the years on Nixon's tapes, Nixon raises a topic about which "we can't talk about...publicly," namely Jewish influence in Hollywood and the media. Nixon cites Paul Keyes, a political conservative who was executive producer of the NBC hit Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In, as telling him that "11 of the 12 writers are Jewish." "That right?" says Graham, prompting Nixon to claim that Life magazine, Newsweek, The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times and others are "totally dominated by the Jews." Nixon says network tv anchors Howard K. Smith, David Brinkley and Walter Cronkite are "front men who may not be of that persuasion," but that their writers are "95 percent Jewish."

Magnanimously, Nixon concedes that this does not mean "that all the Jews are bad," but that most are left-wing radicals who want "peace at any price except where support for Israel is concerned. The best Jews are actually the Israeli Jews." "That's right," agrees Graham, who later concurs with a Nixon assertion that a "powerful bloc" of Jews confronts Nixon in the media. "And they're the ones putting out the pornographic stuff," Graham adds. Later Graham says that "a lot of the Jews are great friends of mine. They swarm around me and are friendly to me. Because they know I am friendly to Israel and so forth. They don't know how I really feel about what they're doing to this country." After Graham's departure Nixon says to Haldeman, "You know it was good we got this point about the Jews across." "It's a shocking point," Haldeman replies. "Well," says Nixon, "it's also, the Jews are an irreligious, atheistic, immoral bunch of bastards."

Within days of these exchanges becoming public the 83-year-old Graham was disturbed in his dotage and impelled to express public contrition. "Experts" on Graham were duly cited as expressing their "shock" at Graham's White House table talk.

Why the shock? Don't they know that this sort of stuff is consonant with the standard conversational bill of fare at 75 percent of the country clubs in America, not to mention many a Baptist soiree? Nixon thought American Jews were lefty peaceniks who dominated the Democratic Party and were behind the attacks on him. Graham reckoned it was Hollywood Jews who had sunk the nation in porn. Haldeman agreed with both of them. At whatever level of fantasy they were all acknowledging power. But they didn't say they wanted to kill a million Jews. That's what Graham said about the Vietnamese, and no one raised a bleat.

It's supposedly the third rail in journalism even to have a discussion of how much Jews control the media. Since some of the prime founders of Hollywood were Polish Jews who grew up within 50 miles of one another in Galicia, it's reckoned as not so utterly beyond bounds to talk about Jewish power in Hollywood, though people still stir uneasily. Jude Wanniski remarked last week in his daily "Memo on the Margin" in his Web newsletter Supply Side Investor that (a) Graham was not being anti-Semitic, and that (b) it was certainly true to say that the Jews control discussion of Israel in the media here.

There are a number of stories sloshing around the news now that have raised discussion of Israel and of the posture of American Jews to an acrid level. The purveyor of anthrax may have been a former government scientist of Jewish ethnic extraction with a record of baiting a colleague of Arab origins, acting with the intent to blame the anthrax on Muslim terrorists. Rocketing around the Web and spilling into the press are many stories about Israeli spies in America at the time of 9/11. On various accounts of unknown reliability, they were trailing Atta and his associates, knew what was going to happen but did nothing or were simply spying on U.S. facilities. Some posing as art students have been expelled, according to the AP. Finally, there's Sharon's bloody repression of the Palestinians, and Israel's apparently powerful role in Bush's foreign policy.

Did anybody make more progress in linking Evangelical Christianity to the American empire than Graham?

There are some other possible answers, so i'm not wedded to it. Maybe Reagan's a better choice, since he wasn't particularly religious himself, creating a pretty inviting theological blank canvas for conservatives as long as you assert "jesus was swell" first.

One of the problems that we have as a people and a nation is
putting our agenda on the lives of people that God uses
outside of our agenda. The man (imperfect) lived 99 years and
a majority of those years were spent leading millions (think
about that fact) of people to the place of having a salvific
relationship with Jesus Christ. But we have people in here who
don't believe and believers who ha e never evangelized a word
about Jesus to anyone taking about what the man dis or don't
do.

Naw. Not today.

That I can say for certain and his associations with free
masonry and promoting brittish Israelism (which much of
American evangelism is based on or simply is) I find to be
troubling.

Billy Graham will be only the 4th person to lie in honor at the Capitol

By Eli Watkins, CNN

Updated 5:58 PM ET, Mon February 26, 2018

https://www.cnn.com/2018/02/26/politics/billy-graham-lie-in-honor-capitol/index.html

Washington (CNN)Congressional leadership announced last week that it would commemorate the life of evangelist Billy Graham by having him lie in honor this Wednesday, a rare accolade for any American and an official embrace of the religious leader from the halls of government.

Graham will be only the fourth private citizen to lie in honor, following civil rights icon Rosa Parks in 2005 and two slain Capitol Police officers in 1998, the Architect of the Capitol's records say.
The practice is similar to lying in state, where the casket of a government or military official is honored with brief placement in a government building. Former presidents, as well as some lawmakers and other officials, have lain in state at the Capitol Rotunda, and Supreme Court justices have lain in repose at the Supreme Court building, a tradition that continued with the death of Justice Antonin Scalia two years ago.

Members of both parties responded to the news of Graham's death with kind words, and recollections of the evangelist's outsize role in American life, including by noting that he was a counselor to US presidents, spanning decades.

The Capitol itself is no stranger to religious ceremony or official recognition of religious leaders. The House and Senate have chaplains and open their sessions with prayers.

Criticism of honoring Graham has been somewhat muted, with the Freedom From Religion Foundation issuing a statement calling the plan to have his body lie in honor inappropriate and citing, among other things, his comments on the Nixon tapes disparaging Jewish people, which he apologized for after they became public.

Lying in honor refers to a private citizen and has been rare historically. Officer Jacob J. Chestnut Jr. and detective John M. Gibson, who were killed by a gunman at the Capitol in 1998, became the first private citizens to lie in honor. In 2005, Parks became the first woman and second black American to be honored in this way at the Capitol Rotunda, according to the House, following a resolution from both houses of Congress.

The Architect of the Capitol notes that the first American honored by lying in state was Kentucky statesman Henry Clay and that Congress has used the Lincoln catafalque -- the platform built to display President Abraham Lincoln's casket -- for those lying in state since Lincoln's 1865 death.
