Dave is funny as fuck most of what he did with Chappell show is better than any movie Rock has ever done, but for stand up I PERSONALLY feel and enjoy Rock's more, always have

It's definitely tighter and more to-the-point with the pacing. When I saw Rock, the set was almost two hours. The bits about bullying and infidelity had far more details.

he has one formula that he tweaks to different degrees: news, politics, his (love) life

he went from "wanna cheat, cant cheat. dying to cheat, cant cheat. cant WAIT to cheat, cant cheat" to admitting he fell short. the most commendable part was he didnt badmouth his wife (though there were inferences and Im sure both parties signed NDAs) he took it all on the chin and still made it funny

for me he's the GOAT, my wife said I laughed too hard at some parts and Im thinking to myself these arent just jokes

Like it seems like he thought fame would get him all this bomb pussy. Which he has but doesn't make him feel like the man.

I like that he talked about his struggles. I enjoyed his stand up way more than Dave Chappelle. I really couldn't get through Dave Chappelle's pacing.

Chris Rock is definitely on Billy Crystal status.

I can see some of the more popular comedians following the music model of giving the people all the material they're somewhat confident in, and letting them pick what they like. I'm sure another project is on the horizon. It's important for Chris to see where he fits in this new space.

They are such a good contrast. Chris Rock is a Classic Comedian working with setups and punchlines and it feels very much like he is doing standup (nothing wrong with that).

Dave Chappelles like a Comedian's Comedian and it just feels like a funny person on stage talking about the random shit that pops into his head and telling funny stories.

You can see that Chris Rock puts in a little more work to refine his jokes. DC's stuff seems more spontaneous.

I can't pick a favorite between the two (well, its probably DC by a hair) just glad they both doing their thing at the top of the game.

I NEVER think Dave is doing things randomly. I assume it is part of his act to make things appear random only to tie them in at some point later.

But I love em both. I'm glad that both of their brands fall into the 'I'm big enough to do this the way I want to' story. We all know they are still following certain rules but their presentations suggest 'boldness'. This Netlix model of getting the money upfront affords a lot of the boldness. This is of course great for us. We need more 'real talk'. We need more 'wait, that wasn't really a joke'.

I invite it all..especially now that I'm getting old. I'm trying to do right by my blessings (great wife, parents alive, a solid set of friends from several eras of my life, OKP!, love of music, high speed internet and wifi), find/save some more money, decide where I even want to fit in on this office job/corporate (bull)shit, and not die of some avoidable ailment before I get a chance to get super old and pass down what I 'figured out' to younger folks so they don't have to waste up spiritual, mental, and emotional energy on shit that ultimately doesn't matter.

This seemed like he was intentionally being more casual. He usually wears suits in his specials, but it wasn't just that. It's like he didn't polish his act as much as he usually does. Whether or not I've found his jokes funny in the past, he always delivered them flawlessly. He didn't this time. It was like he didn't rehearse as much as usual and kinda let it all hang out and said 'fuck it.' It's not on the level of Lauryn Hill's Unplugged performance, but I saw it as the same concept. He let go a little and got more personal than he has before.
When he'd joke about his marriage before, there may have been some truth in there, but it ultimately always fell more on the side of just jokes. Here, he was being real to the point that I felt that this act was therapeutic/confessional in working out some shame or guilt, damn near. I'm not mad at the brother at all. I just feel like I saw Rock in a way I haven't before... more casual, less polished, personal, and emotionally open... dealing with pain so real that he couldn't completely make light of it.

Overall, I feel like Chris realized he's not a perfect person. He realized he's flawed, and he owned it. He stopped TRYING to be perfect. He took off the suit, dressed down, let his jokes come out however they came out, and let himself be a regular dude. I know he'll be ok. That said, I'd like to see the old Chris in the suit return. I'll understand if he doesn't though. Sometimes we never are who we were after we "fall from grace" so to speak.

And I was cool with him using Prince's "Tambourine" since Prince was fond of Rock and they were friends. Prince believed in "friends", not fans, and Rock qualified.
