With Biden's hat in the ring, Obama probably rides with Biden but is publicly neutral. Now Hillary has to try to distinguish herself from the Obama admin instead of embracing it (but not too much). Throw Bernie in the mix, i can't even call how any of it would turn out. Hillary already had to pretend the Bernie thing wasn't bugging her because she was trying to not repeat her mistakes against Obama, and now she has to walk that rope with Biden as well. Biden is pure establishment but has that everyman appeal that could cut into some of Bernie's camp.

So, uglier, but since we got the worst result anyway..

and provided an easier path for bernie to win (assuming both hill and joe ran...which might not have been the case).

if bernie won the primary...he would have performed markedly worse than either candidate in the general and gotten beat handedly. history has been pretty clear about how super lefties perform in generals (think mcgovern). and repubs were sitting on oppo that would have painted bernie as an anti-american commie (with his own words).

Not sure if he wasn’t backed by the DNC or if he legit said he wasn’t running due to his son’s passing.

I feel like the reason he is back in the spotlight now is because he probably feels responsible for Trump being in the White House.

He's as much of a DNC insider as Hillary (arguably more as the sitting VP). The only real concern was his age.

He could’ve been in on pushing Hillary as well.

Maybe after all was discussed they all decided to push her to attempt the first black and the first woman back to back and Biden’s story was as believable as anything they could’ve made up.

He said more than fresh and clean, that came out when he was trying to clean it up.

"I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy," Biden said. "I mean, that's a storybook, man."

Should we stamp fragile handle with care ? If any candidate can't take criticism from the base, what will they do in primary and general debates ? How will you save them from crumbling when the press ask questions ?

He was completely positioning himself to run "using" his son's death as the reason TO run.

Always consider the story behind the story.

he just didn't have the support he needed to make it happen.

it describes his family aside from his son Hunter as mostly against it. it describes them as up against the clock, and him not being in any kind of mental state to pull it together in time to go for it despite what he said Beau's wishes were.

of course momentum and a "her turn!" narrative being behind Hillary was a huge factor. I'm not denying that, which only adds to making a tough decision, because this will be an ugly ass primary. I just think it's weird for anyone to dismiss Beau's death as a reason on some "LOL dead son? c'mon!"

also I watched that Netflix Romney doc recently, and this account of Beau sounds so much how the Romney kids talked
"the White House should not revert to the Clintons and that the country would be better off with Biden values.”

Lots of people WANT to be president. But they also, including O'Malley, just knew they wouldn't be able to beat her. And they were right.

It was the voters who decided it was 'Hillary's turn', not some cabal in a smoke-filled room.

I mean besides sexism of course. If we're honest, and I mean really honest, he was an ok vice president, was in the pocket of the financial services from his home state of Delaware, voted for the Iraq war, and probably most despicable for me, treated Anita Hill with the upmost disrespect and cleared the way for Clarence Thomas to get voted into the Supreme Court. Like, this is his legacy.

https://78.media.tumblr.com/2cbeab108fbe135f11b328c137cab6ab/tumblr_ox2q5sbDA61vc5xspo1_250.gif

Don't get me wrong, I like him, and as VP he was serviceable and charismatic in a dirty old grandpa type of way, but I would not argue he was a stronger candidate.

Which was a front for money laundering and drug trafficking and not deregulating banks to then take advantage of in order to pursue said deal

And not using lawyer client privilege to cover up any wrong doing

Also no one associated with Biden has mysteriously died

Biden didn't authorize the massacre of scores of men women and children in Texas nor is he married to one who would act in such fashion

Terrible speaker, horribly gaffe-prone, oblivious to how people see him, pushes the folksiness way beyond any realm of believability.

Also, people got mad over some paid speeches to banks. Imagine how certain elements of our party would have dealt with a man whose most powerful constituents, for all of his adult life, were credit card companies. He wasn't the senator from Scranton. He was the senator from Delaware. And people would have made note of that, especially Bernie.

He was a great VP; especially for Obama, with whom he really does seem to have shared a genuine respect and friendship. But it would have really tarnished Obama's legacy if Biden became his successor.

against Trump, Biden would have been better than that asswipe on paper, at least over Hillary. more of a direct connection to Obama, and some of the white identity politics that catapulted MAGABoy would have been blunted

TBH the fact that you're even a mod here fits squarely within Jag's narrative of OK-sanctioned aggression, bullying, and toxicity. *shrug*
