"NEW CLOVERFIELD ON NETFLIX AFTER THE GAME"

One trailer. No ad campaign, no press campaign. Just one Super Bowl trailer and a release. Wild.

Was finally scheduled to come out in April then Netflix bought the rights.

It was originally called "God Particle". I was wondering if it was ever going to come out.

I liked it. It was like the typical, "Crazy isht happens on a space station" film, but it was still well done. Gugu should be a bigger star than she currently is.

I still have no idea why they didn't release this in theaters. It could have easily been the same level of hit as 10 Cloverfield Lane. Especially if they put some decent promotion behind it.

In any event, I really need a sequel now That ending got me yelling.

Pretty gangsta ass way to market a movie. But if you want max exposure and minimum work, dropping a single ad on Netflix and letting the buzz take care of the rest is as genius as it is ballsy.

Pretty obvious that they retrofitted it to be Cloverfield. (Evidenced by all technology being 2018 but the movie is set a decade ago, lol.) Nerds are going to bend over backwards to look for all the "connections."

But fun stuff overall. The crazier it was, the better, so the last act was merely okay to me. Still, Gugu is an absolute beast.

The tie-ins to the previous two flicks were sloppy.

As a stand alone flick it's straight though, if generic.

yeah, I don't wanna spoil it for those who haven't, but there are unanswered questions about each of the events that happened with the astronauts and there was no neat little bow for that $hit.

I get the whole 'multi-dimensional' thing but the motivations and reasoning behind WHY whatever was happening was happening was just kinda draped over the whole thing.

telling stories from different points of time about wtf happened on earth. straightforward but not necessarily linear.

theres so much to explore and explain that they could have a legit 6+ movie franchise without getting stale imo.

prequels and sequels and origin stories for at least a decade. maybe a film focuses on 1 character or group of characters and their interaction (like the 2nd). maybe another film focuses on an important pivotal event (like the 1st one).

just the viral web stuff alone (tagruato, bold futura, etc) provides a good amount of possible material. that stuff doesnt even really get touched on in the actual films.

you could even have a standalone show based on survivors, or tagruato employees and people investigating their shady operation like stranger things, etc.

it feels like this is all a blown opportunity to build an entire megacosm from a really compelling original premise.

the story just...isn't much.

I don't even think it was badly directed, unless the director did a lot of the rewriting.

which is the most ridiculous criticism i've ever typed.

the movie was extremely well paced, which is something a thriller director should be going for.

but when you got interdimensional mind fuckery going on, you gotta slow down and fuck with our minds more.

because plotwise we got a montage of like 40 something collider firings, then we get the one that fucks everything up, and we immediately know that they gotta do it again to "fix" shit.

if the beats of your thriller are that straight forward, you gotta give us something else to puzzle over and be held up in suspense by.
