I loved Martin and don’t even really care about a reboot as I’m not really into that. Just glad to see them cool again because it was ugly the way Martin ended.

It’s Martin. The show never had serious moments and it would stay true to the show’s vibe.
Now if they kept mentioning it I would see your point.
If he got a job and died in a plane crash on the way to the interview would that make it better or nah?
That was Tommy’s main joke. I think it would be wrong if they went in another direction or did a reboot and didn’t mention him.

and I’m a huge Martin fan. I still watch episodes on fire stick a few times a week.

Martin gets salty because Tomnmy isn't hanging around anymore and acts tough about it. But at the end, they have an emotional moment when they all realize how much they miss their boy.
I always got the impressions from artists, musicians, actors, etc. that they want to live on thru their performances or art. A story like this isn't making fun of a dead man. It's continuing the laughs we got from his character.
