"How many of the 50 state have you visited?"

I have a little time in the middle of the month, and of the 18 I'm missing, I'm trying to figure a plan out to knock off some.

I could fly into Salt Lake City from LA, for $63, use some Hertz points and hit both Idaho and Wyoming within 24 hours.
Catch a flight the next day from SLC to Denver for $58 and maybe get to either Nebraska or Kansas and back.

Visiting relatives, friends, going to reunions, etc. My extended family has typically been very spread out over the entirety of the country so we had a good excuse to drive to Minnesota, Colorado, and California quite often.

I haven't visited:

Washington
Oregon
New York
Massachusetts
Rhode Island
Delaware
Alaska
Hawaii
Idaho
Michigan
North and South Dakota
Idaho
Indiana
Maine

I think that's it.

Nebraska, where I've been born and raised.
Missouri, when I went to Kansas City's Westport district over a weekend this past summer
(we went to a huge IMAX theater that was technically in Kansas City, Kansas as well)

---

as a kid, I visited Seattle six summers in a row, but I don't have any strong memories from it other than playing racing video games in my cousin's bedroom, going to a technology expo where the Sega Dreamcast was being shown for the first time, the market pier, my first taste of shellfish and oysters/mussels in particular on an island off the coast, and hating that all the public pools were salt water. The last time we went I was still only 12 or so.

I've been to North and South Dakota, on a road trip with my dad, and it was all sight seeing. I was 8 and 9 years old or something like that.

I've been to Florida twice, but both family trips to Disney World, and again I was 9 or 10 the second time.

I've been to an airport in Arizona and Minnesota.

I visited New York City when I was 17 and stayed literally off the corner of Central Park, but I was A) 17 and B) on an ill-fated vacation with the dude who'd just started dating the girl I dated for nearly all of middle and high school so I was just depressed and didn't do anything except go to J&R and buy a Talk Talk record (Laughing Stock).

I think that's my list. Most of my travel was before I was an adult. The trip to KC for the weekend was the first time I'd left Omaha/Lincoln in over a decade.

Never been a big fan of travel, having never been a salaried employee. To me, traveling means all I'm doing is spending money with nothing to show for it. I have friends that travel to South American and East Asian countries 2-3 times a year working the same jobs and I don't know how they do it.

There is fun stuff to do in western Nebraska, but I’ve never been. Chimney Rock, beautiful national parks, bathing waterfalls. I’m not the person to ask, though; I’m a city boy in one of the least city boy states.

I don’t even find Lincoln particularly interesting unless you’re college aged or want to catch a college football game in a specifically interesting atmosphere. From where that freeway hits I-80, I believe you’re looking at about six hours to Omaha, where all the fun is. Unless one of the venues in Lincoln is hosting Big KRIT or Ghostface or something; I find the uni town demographic sometimes pulls shows you wish would come up the road (ie. Kendrick).

Openers were 100% Hypebeast dressers sounding like Drake...

Internet has changed every part of this country.. for most of the youth it isnt that much different...

Only parts of the country I feel uneasy in though are Mississippi and random non-descript gas station towns in texas..

15. It's easy to see a lot of states living on the east coast. I've driven through some more but I didn't count those.

Mostly because I visited most of them when I was less than 2-year-old with my parents as we went on a months long van trip across the country and back. Only thing I sorta remember is visiting my parents' friends in Vermont, and leaving my favorite block there.

Only one I know for sure that I haven't been to is Alaska.

I've driven cross country several times to move myself/family. When I was younger I also had a fear of flying and plenty of time so I'd take jobs across the country for the summer and take the trains to get there over a couple weeks.

I've only been to the states north of Massachusetts once...I'd like to visit them again.

NY, NJ, PA, Mass, Maine, NC, SC, GA, Fla, Col, Cal.

A New Orleans trip will likely happen within the next year or so, so I’ll knock off La. I’d like to eventually visit Arizona, Vegas, Chicago, DC, Memphis, Nashville, some of the Texas cities, and the northwest. I think I’m good on everywhere else.

Scenario A : You take hometime in the city you want and they eventually work you out that way.

Scenario B : You have a load going from City X to City Z but you see that you can stop in City Y for the day/night and still be on time for your delivery.

Scenario C: You get to an area and and don't get a load leaving until the next day or you tell your dispatcher you wont be available until time X tomorrow.

It's easy but sometimes you gotta pass spots you would like to stop thru because of timing.

Any potential city you just do your homework on the net on where to park and stuff you wanna visit and the metro system/taxi if you dont know anyone there.

Team driving scenario A maybe harder to do unless you and your co driver on the same page as far as wanting to see other stuff and not wanting to go home for hometime. Scenario B and C would be harder because with teams you are on the go more. But sometimes things can work out.

Mississippi is the Blackest state in the union.

They're introducing legislation to teach Mississippi's pledge-- glorifying the state flag--which contains the Confederate battle emblem.

I have actually taken a break on international travel and just visit someplace in the US a couple times of year. I love America. A really beautiful and nice place. The strip mall effect has ruined much fo the uniqueness. But overall, the US is awesome.

Missing on the list:

Upper Midwest (14) These states are my first priorities. I love the air, nature and history.
Alaska
Idaho
Montana
Wyoming
New Mexico
North Dakota
South Dakota
Nebraska
Minnesota
Iowa
Missouri
Wisconsin
Michigan
Indiana

Deep South (6)
Mississippi
Kentucky
Arkansas
Alabama
Tennessee
Oklahoma

New England (1)
Maine

Get some enchiladas with red and green sauces.

Albuquerque is an alright city, but not really anything big. (I don't really know it though.) If you're into Breaking Bad, there are Winnebago tours of shooting sites, LOL.

Los Alamos is a cute small town, obviously with a lot of history related to the Manhattan Project, if you're interested in that.

Bandelier National Monument (near Santa Fe and Los Alamos) is pretty cool, I've heard. I guess you can see thousand-year-old Pueblo homes there.

Not only did I see that Winnebago tour multiple times, I saw a million Jesse Pinkman's. All driving hooked up Subaru WRXs, or Civics--with loud pipes, or a few with Camaros and Mustangs.
Anyway, most surprising was all the road rage I watched.
I was driving a Diesel Nissan Titan, so they didn't fuck with me, but holy shit. I thought I was stuck in rush hour traffic on the cross bronx expressway, based on the attitudes.

The movie studios were another surprise, three of them...one owned by Netflix. When I went to Frontier, Tom Hanks was in there casually ordering.

i would plan 2/3 day trips

start off in the north or the south and hit a few spots. spend the night then keep working your way through the state.

ive mostly spent time in the south so i would say white sands is cool to see. ruidoso is nice, especially compared to the surroundings. might not be anything special for someone from a different area.

carlsbad caverns is worth seeing.

i honestly need to see more of new mexico. i drove through santa fe and albuquerque for the first time saturday after living in new mexico, or right by it for most of my life.

And in addition to what was already listed, there's Roswell NM for quirky alien landing stuff, and the oldest church and home are near Sante Fe I believe. Bandalier has old volcanos I think. Las Cruces is nice, good food there. Carlsbad Caverns is indeed great. Albuquerque is the largest city. Been but don't remember much, except the cable cars looked dope.

Missing Hawaii, Alaska, North and South Dakota, Vermont, Maine.

Parents were military growing up plus family was scattered so that got it started. About 10 years ago me and some of my friends made a goal of visiting all 50 states so each year we strategically map out what states we could visit and get a decent experience from in a 5-7 day stretch.

We don't have a firm set of rules although a stop at an airport doesn't count as a "visit" haha. It can be an official tour of some type, an overnight stay or two, a day spent in that state's capital or most important/largest city. Try to do a mix of straight touristy stuff and off the beaten path. Best brewery or food spots. Museums. Sporting events if the timelines match up. Landmarks. Etc. The main point being not just to check that state off the list but to try and get a feel for something that's unique to that area.
