"Logan, The Chi, etc"

Maaaaan, I finally got around to watching Logan. Gotdam that's my GOAT superhero movie thus far. I kept trying to watch it late at night and would fall asleep. Well, I finally watched it and damn that was good. It's the Rogue One of superhero movies.

also,

The Chi is great. No, it's not the Wire but that's OK. It still holds its own. I really like the Easy E dude too. Great acting all around IMO.

Now let me try and watch Gomorra

I hated Logan with a passion. It just tossed all the X-men and Logan history for a story which had nothing to do with the X-Men universe.

but I tapped out around 90, 91 ish

Pretty sure there was a Wolverine comic for a while that focused on his past, present and future outside of the X-men.

That's why I called it the Rogue One of superhero movies.

also, I really loved how dark and real this was compared to the other superhero movies where there is no blood and no one dies. This joint was way too real with the violence. I loved it.

If we have to get all comic book geeky there felt like there were two Wolverine’s. The 6th men of the year Wolverine who despite being surrounded by a bunch of superheros with top shelf powers held his own just by attitude (cause let’s be honest, superhealing ain’t jack compared to controlling the weather, throwing tanks with your mind, blasting a skyscraper down with your eyes). This is what attracted a bunch of kids like me, even tho he was badass he was also the underdog.

The other was the dark dude in his solo comics who was just struggling through life; no other superheroes or supervillians really around, just drinking himself to death in Madripoor, having girlfriends/close friends die from natural and unnatural causes. I hated those, lol.

On a friend’s recommendation I read Old Man Logan graphic novel a couple of years back which was the general basis of the movie (but much much darker) and was blown away. It made me realize that while I wasn’t a fan of those serious Wolvie stories as a child in hindsight they were the richer ones.

The thing is that while comic book movies have definitely gotten more adult over the years they really haven’t matured. While there were Western/Sci-fi/Comic book trappings in Logan what got to me was what happens when we get old; when we have to bury/take care of a parent, when you realize those dreams that you had in the back of your head have already passed you?

It's one thing to see a washed Logan but all that other stuff (especially the thing that made him a pacifist) would have been too much for the screen.

Still would like to see a Hulk vs R-rated Wolverine fight on the screen

Yeah, but honestly that was the lightest moment in the book. Like how they murdered his family off GP even tho he did what they wanted, and how the fucked future was indirectly his fault since he never got his bloodlust under control enough not to let it be easily exploited. When they murdered his family and basically cracked jokes about it I remember being filled with anger just reading it, lol. How often a comic makes you angry

I was anticipating the hell outta the episode that
aired Sunday. I like that the conversation writing
comes across genuine (unlike from a certain new
horrible Black superhero show) and that's aside from
the story being interesting. They've done a great
job of introducing and building characters only in a
few episodes. Hell, in the first episode they did a
great job of introducing Coogie (sp?) before ... you know.

*edit*
Also, Logan was a good movie despite them having to...
**spoiler alert***
kill him to make a decent movie. It's like Fox can only
make a good X-Men movie when they kill off key characters
(i.e. X-Men 3)
Laura was dope tho. I'd like to see more of her character.
If you haven't seen the show The Gifted, it's the least
corny superhero show that has aired on primetime recently.
It picks up pretty much where Logan left off. Good show.

They're so depressing

also they slaughtered that black family and whats jacked about that is the director was like "I thought they'd have us cut or edit that scene and they were totally fine with it"

The SFX on the kid mutants powers were so so

I hate girlverine but they did a great job with her in the movie

(and honestly this could have been a FX movie) not a dis just saying they could/should have been doing this type of logan story years ago

I am guessing she is from the comics but first time I saw here.

Yeah the black family rubbed me the wrong way. 100% believe they wouldn't have had a white family be so expendable.

Quick question. Who or what killed the Father.

It looked like he was about to shoot Logan but then he got hit with a dart or some shit.

I mentioned The Gifted (Fox) above. They have NO Black
characters in the main mutant cast, and the main
ones you see are anti-mutant or just terrible ppl.
There's a Black guy with the mutants who gets shot
and SOLELY serves to facilitate the main characters
ingratiating themselves with the rest of the mutants
by saving his life. The most acting he did was acting
like he was in pain lol. Leader of the officers after
them is a Black guy who loses his daughter in some kind
of mutant attack (once again making sure we are w/o
offspring). All of this despite them playing on racial
themes around anti-Black racism to create the story.

I could go on all day here (as yall know) but I was
gonna stay away from the racial aspect since the post
wasn't about that. Otherwise tho, The Gifted is a
well-written show. They did get some credit from me
for making the leader of the mutants a Native American
dude with pretty cool powers. The Black characters get
played tho.
