real talk tho,
1-if the kap part of it is true, its DOA. Shoulda kept that as silent partner/trust or something
2-as an investment, Is the NFL gonna be around in 50 years? tho im sure you could extract alot of wealth as an owner in the meantime

to even be invited to the dinner table FOR the discussion of selling an NFL squad...... has to be voted on by the other owners. Diddy could be worth twice as much more than a Jerry Jones and it still wouldn't matter

It's split between him and business investors

Which is my point

Puff has to put together a group of investors to buy out Richardson

He will not own 100%, or even 51% of the team

I still get a reaction when I tell people Puff doesn't actually own Ciroc (c) Jay

Good for him though.

Puff has proven he can do this though..

Ciroc - took a no name brand to international fame..

Revolt - He is a majority shareholder

He has proven a few times over he can sit with enough people and build an investment team big enough to do these things and THEN go out and sell it...

of ownership altogether, a la the Packers.

But I know very little about NFL or sports in general. Those saying Diddy wouldn't have a shot... could you expound a bit on that? I mean it's clear there's a very deep "old boys" network at play, intersecting with racial tensions, but is that all you mean or is it more complicated?

This talk about Kaepernick taking interest has me thinking.. is there any precedent of athletes having a financial stake in the teams they play for?? Like shares being part of the compensation package or something? Would there be legal barriers to this being a thing?

Especially after the recent tensions in the league, I feel like partial ownership could be one of the most empowering reconciliations to the various issues. Plus.. maybe it would even give such a team leverage when competing for top talent? Deter more trouble-prone guys from getting into bs off the clock? Boost performance? Boost players' community service/presence? I don't even mean majority stake.

Is NFL franchise ownership really that 'undisruptable'?

So when they start talking naming them the black panthers and Kap being a partial owner, it seems like it's not a serious bid.

There is probably no object of desire more coveted by a rich person than an NFL franchise. So there would be no shortage of people who want a shot at ownership and would pay a premium.

For political reasons I can see them going with a group lead by a black money person. But you pick the tamest least wave making black rich guy you can find. Where Bob Johnson at?

An active player can't be an owner, its a conflict if interest. Jordan had to sell his stake in the Wizards when he came out of retirement.

It's like "whose" interest...

Your response made me look up some of the ownership restrictions (just the summary on wikipedia, not their constitution or anything lol), and owners are prohibited from having stakes in other NFL clubs anyway (which addresses true potential conflicts of interest, imo).

But all this other stuff in the mix, plus the arbitrary cap of 24 people to an ownership group (considering a player roster can reach up to 53), almost makes it seem like they set these dumb ownership rules with the specific goal of preventing buyouts by players or the surrounding communities.

And I'm not saying that surprises me, given the country we're in lol. But I'm trying to wrap my head around the business case for even prohibiting in the first place. How/why would 'player-shareholders' be much different than employee-shareholders in other types of corporations? Seems like it'd be all upside.

Which if you think about it, if it weren't for that rule, the league would be completely player owned decades ago.

you can't have the inmates running the prison or something like that? ownership doesn't want the influence of players in business decisions like that. they know the game/rules would change in favor of the players.

sure diddy is a great business man. Bob Kraft even said so. just not sure if he'll be taken seriously. he mentioned best halftime show. what? lol

and bringing Kap in to compete? that's politics rather than football, even if it is the 'right' thing to do. doesn't seem like a good idea to inject politics right from the gate.

Diddy's wealthy but probably not wealthy enough to go it alone. The team will likely go for $2b+ and Diddy *might* be worth that amount himself.

He's not going to put all his eggs in one basket and the league probably wouldn't let him.

He might be able to lead his own team of investors but the league will still want him to put some cash in to prove he's serious and is liquid enough to sustain the team even if things go bad for several years.

Shit...we had a playoff team with the Hornets...with an all-black coaching staff...and I think the players were all black..with dwindling attendance (before Shinn moved them to NO)

They shunned the Bobcats for no real reason, other than continuing to spew hate for the owner (why does HE let them play all this rappity-rap stuff during the games? Why did HE get the coliseum built downtown and Shinn couldnt?), and being mad that one of the owners (Nelly) was a rapper.

The only reason they support now is cause we got the name (Hornets) back, and Jordan is "acceptable"

Charlottes got way too many undercover racists to support a team with "that type" of black ownership.
