"My problem with Michael Blackson"

Whilst i'm not his biggest fan, I'm glad to see a Ghanaian born comic making noise internationally.

That said, I have a problem with some of Michaels comedy because he seems to participate in the stereotyping of Africans and his audience lap its up with no sense of irony.

Does anyone else see this as a problem?

Fair enough - My thing is to comedy is social commentary so we have to examine the reason we laugh when we do. I just don't think Michaels work spurs that type of analysis.

For example, when Chris Rock said "there ain't a white man in this room that would change places with me...and I'm rich" that shit was funny and you know white guys laughed but also went home and thought about it like "yeah...given all the bs i wouldn't trade places with a black guy"

And even when it's talkimg about social issues it's finding what's funny about those issues no matter how serious.

You seem to think are are at a lecture. That's your own fault.

You aren't even willing to recognize it so much you are posting your opinion under an alias. This is a post about you and you issues not comedy. Maybe you are funny part lol

I don't think he has anything interesting to say about the nature of the relationship between Africans and African Americans but for him to have chosen this lane and to have found an audience for this long is social commentary in itself.

The caricatures he portrays exist in African American culture but the fact he's never really blown up also suggests his lane is very narrow and the interest in his caricatures is small though persistent.

published on the internet like what he said about Rob Kardashian and Tyrese.

and I guess from his role in Next Friday.

He seems to be funny in those capacities. If he has to stick to making jokes about Africans in his standup routines, that just confirms that it is hard to come up with good standup material (in my view).

So....

Michael can struggle and strike out with his standup material all he wants (I probably won't see it - I guess I could youtube his standup), as long as he comes up with funny stuff in movies and those internet comments he makes, seems like he'll be a-ight.

His internet comments are classic. The whole trading of Tyrese thing was very funny until the mock kidnapping

Just can't clap to stereotyping of Africans
