"Just bought some cryptocurrencies...can anyone help me out?"

Invested last week in bitcoin and ethereum.
I don't know much about either other than they both have stuck around and are continuing to climb.
The guy I have been getting advice from says now is really the time to buy before it potentially hits the stock market and/or gets regulated.
I've heard all these old financial analysts talk down about cryptos like it not the new wave and usually when they speak down on something..it's because they aren't making money off of it yet or are trying to find a way.

My overall goal is to get back what I've invested and let my interest continue to build.

Can anyone offer up any advice on potentially lending what I have to maximise my earnings.

What say you?

Thanks in advance!

ride

i bought $150 of bitcoin back in april, i've spent $120 out of there and balance is now sitting at $330.
1. i shouldn't have spent that $120 (newegg accepts it and it felt like free money after i earned $50 on my initial investment)
2. i should've invested more, value has doubled since i bought in. now i feel if i buy more i'm buying too high, at the same time it's been a steady climb most of the year even with the big dips in the summer.

Dude,
Bitcoin is too high right now, I bought Stellar Lumens - priced well, and their Blockchain, stellar.org, supports all crypto and fiat currencies.

1. dollar cost averaging - the idea that if you continually buy an amount through high times and low times you will be a good position overall. I was buying it up weekly but then stopped to invest in other buckets and I kind of regret stopping the weekly buys, but at the same time, never put out what you would be afraid to lose

2. Shift Card - its a cool thing. Cost 10 bucks and its a visa card that connects to your coinbase account and lets spend BTC or other cryptos as if you were spending fiat - kind of messes with the idea of crypto but its a nice thing to have

3. ignore the whole "its too high to buy" thing. if people took that to heart then they would have missed out when BTC went from 1300 to 3000 or 3000 to 6000 or when it dipped to 5400 but then went up to 8000. this is personal preference

4. understand your goal. is your goal to make short term gains? long term gains? do you believe in the platform and think it will become something great eventually? I'm long up to 5 years.

5. keep your eye on the debut of the CME Bitcoin futures. This is a good thing, a bad thing and a thing.

6. HODL. Shit will get bad. Shit will be great. No matter what, just keep holding on to it. People are still trying to figure out what BTC is but I think its going to become a store of value like gold and less of a currency.

7. there are 21 million bitcoins in the world. If you own just one you are one in 21 million. if you own 21 coins you are one in a million.

8. halving in 2020

there are some out there like this one

or make sure to get a digital wallet from a reputable source...

coinbase did a hard fork earlier this month..
https://support.coinbase.com/customer/portal/articles/2892985-segwit-2x-faq

I got scared when I was visiting bitcoin's website a couple months before it happened. They mentioned the fork and pretty much said .. move your bitcoins from coinbase to a valid bitcoin wallet.. so i did.. now I'm looking at another market to buy bitcoins.. i still get the ethereum and litecoin through coinbase..

I buy little at a time..

All the BTC buzz has got me paying attention and I want to spread my coin out a bit more. I've been having some good conversations about LISK, they're entering some Asian exchanges and investing a lot of resources in their rebranding (which should happen in the next few weeks).

Also, fun read on how to talk about crypto at the Thanksgiving table: https://techcrunch.com/2017/11/20/how-to-talk-about-cryptocurrency-at-the-holiday-dinner-table/

Help me out. I have a couple of questions.

So there are a whole bunch of crypto-currencies out there, right? Bitcoin, Dogecoin, Ethereum, etc.

So when you acquire one of these currencies, are you pretty much making a bet that this is going to be THE ONE crypto-currency which survives? Or is there a place for 100s of different platforms?

What is going on when a new currency is released? I'm imagining a dude in his basement coming up with some new encryption system or something, then saying "Hey give me your US dollars and I'll give you some Schrute Bucks". Why would someone accept that trade?

I'm not sure about all the intricacies mentioned within your initial inquiry, I just know that I wanted to 'get in' on the whole crypto scene before it hits the stock market or takes a plunge.

The folks that I know who are heavier into it can for sure tell you more as I know of other coins they've invested in as well. I will talk to my main guy and get back to you.

whether that comes from being more standardized, more accepted, eventually able to handle more than 2 transactions a minute... majority don't know or don't care.

it is pure speculation and virtual supply/demand driving the price. which, as long as it keeps going up and everyone knows the rules, is ok

In response to Reply # 12

a few articles on bitcoin - esp the mining and hashing stuff and maybe even the whitepaper

https://bitcoin.org/bitcoin.pdf

but then I would also quickly read up on what makes etherum etherum (its something interesting in comparison. its a coin! Its a platform! its a coin AND its a platform!)

and then I would read up on XRP and why it is interesting
(controlled by one - positioned for banking)

I would say for the most part a good amount of cryptos are backed on one of those three concepts. something is either like bitcoin, like XRP or like ethereum

I'm not hyped on alts and ICOs give me nightmares but I think those three different concepts are where its at.

Alts are pushed by hype and letting the market vote (speculation)

knowing whats going to last? *sucks teeth* man, I have no idea the user experience for all of this shit is horrible and its not easy to get into - but, since a lot of things are bitcoin based (i.e. a lot of alt coins are purchased using...bitcoin) I think bitcoin is going to be around for a long time.

they have all of the other thotcoins that you can make a quick flip on

Get blockfolio on your phone to track it when you're away from a computer

Get 2FA. Don't fuck around with that

There are a bunch of youtube videos from people that day trade coins if you're interested. But basically do some research on a coin, buy low, sell high.

Set a goal for a coin and stick with that goal because if you don't you're always gonna sell too early or too late

a bitcoin can be divided in 100,000,000 units

you can buy 1 dollars worth of bitcoin at a time. its like any ol' currency exchange really, most of the the time when you end up with pockets full of change the exchange places just look at you like "Good luck!"

I was reading that the Winklevoss twins are bitcoin billionaires. But that doesn't mean anything.

People are rich on paper, but I don't think there's anyway to cash out on large sums of bitcoin.

If you try to sell of a big chunk of coins, you will crash the market. It isn't set up to handle that

but if you did want to cash out its a process akin to turning on a faucet; you process the coins in batches

its just like stocks

if you owned a fuckload of shares you would work with a broker who would process everything down to get the best price while also batching everything down to prevent a major sell off and tanking your final price

It's risky as hell but that's how most of the rich people that earned their wealth got there. They may diversify after they ARE rich but on the way up, their assets are usually all wrapped up into one thing.

The strategy is too risky for most of us casual investors that are just trying to have a little nest egg when we retire though.

reminder/warning that futures contracts are going start trading on the CME and CBOE, so the big boys can short it now. jamie dimon and a couple other gangsters have publicly spoken out against cryptocurrencies, so they'll probably try to manipulate it like they did precious metals, particularly silver a few years ago.

One might perceive thinking of investing 100-200 bucks in all the smaller cryptos mentioned here in this post in all honesty.

I think a bunch of these in the 20 buck range are worthy of at least getting one or two and the smaller ones up to five.

I broke it down to a coworker in comparison to what you spend in a weekend out drinking with friends.

At least with this it's a calculated decision of positive future projection rather just getting drunk with nothing to show for it.

..just my personal breakdown..

68. "1,000 People Who Own 40 Percent of the Market can rock it w/ a shrug"
In response to Reply # 0
Fri Dec-08-17 09:10 AM by PimpTrickGangstaClik

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-12-08/the-bitcoin-whales-1-000-people-who-own-40-percent-of-the-market

On Nov. 12, someone moved almost 25,000 bitcoins, worth about $159 million at the time, to an online exchange. The news soon rippled through online forums, with bitcoin traders arguing about whether it meant the owner was about to sell the digital currency.

Holders of large amounts of bitcoin are often known as whales. And they’re becoming a worry for investors. They can send prices plummeting by selling even a portion of their holdings. And those sales are more probable now that the cryptocurrency is up nearly twelvefold from the beginning of the year.

About 40 percent of bitcoin is held by perhaps 1,000 users; at current prices, each may want to sell about half of his or her holdings, says Aaron Brown, former managing director and head of financial markets research at AQR Capital Management. (Brown is a contributor to the Bloomberg Prophets online column.) What’s more, the whales can coordinate their moves or preview them to a select few.

Many of the large owners have known one another for years and stuck by bitcoin through the early days when it was derided, and they can potentially band together to tank or prop up the market.

“I think there are a few hundred guys,” says Kyle Samani, managing partner at Multicoin Capital. “They all probably can call each other, and they probably have.” One reason to think so: At least some kinds of information sharing are legal, says Gary Ross, a securities lawyer at Ross & Shulga. Because bitcoin is a digital currency and not a security, he says, there’s no prohibition against a trade in which a group agrees to buy enough to push the price up and then cashes out in minutes.

Regulators have been slow to catch up with cryptocurrency trading, so many of the rules are still murky. If traders not only pushed the price up but also went online to spread rumors, that might count as fraud. Bittrex, a digital currency exchange, recently wrote to its users warning that their accounts could be suspended if they banded together into “pump groups” aimed at manipulating prices. The law might also be different for other digital coins. Depending on the details of how they are structured and how investors expect to make money from them, some may count as currencies, according to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Asked about whether large holders could move in concert, Roger Ver, a well-known early bitcoin investor, said in an email: “I suspect that is likely true, and people should be able to do whatever they want with their own money. I’ve personally never had time for things like that though.”

“As in any asset class, large individual holders and large institutional holders can and do collude to manipulate price,” Ari Paul, co-founder of BlockTower Capital and a former portfolio manager of the University of Chicago endowment, wrote in an electronic message. “In cryptocurrency, such manipulation is extreme because of the youth of these markets and the speculative nature of the assets.”

The recent rise in its price is difficult to explain because bitcoin has no intrinsic value. Launched in 2009 with a white paper written under a pseudonym, it’s a form of digital payment maintained by an independent network of computers on the internet‚ using cryptography to verify transactions. Its most fervent believers say it could displace banks and even traditional money, but it’s only worth what someone will trade for it, making it prey to big shifts in sentiment.

Like most hedge fund managers specializing in cryptocurrencies, Samani constantly tracks trading activity of addresses known to belong to the biggest investors in the coins he holds. (Although bitcoin transactions are designed to be anonymous, each one is associated with a coded address that can be seen by anyone.) When he sees activity, Samani immediately calls the likely sellers and can often get information on motivations behind their sales and their trading plans, he says. Some funds end up buying one another’s holdings directly, without going into the open market, to avoid affecting the currency’s price. “Investors are generally more forthcoming with other investors,” Samani says. “We all kind of know who one another are, and we all help each other out and share notes. We all just want to make money.” Ross says gathering intelligence is legal.

Ordinary investors, of course, don’t have the cachet required to get a multimillionaire to take their call. While they can track addresses with large holdings online and start heated discussions of market moves on Reddit forums, they’re ultimately in the dark on the whales’ plans and motives. “There’s no transparency to speak of in this market,” says Martin Mushkin, a lawyer who focuses on bitcoin. “In the securities business, everything that’s material has to be disclosed. In the virtual currency world, it’s very difficult to figure out what’s going on.”

Ordinary investors are at an even greater disadvantage in smaller digital currencies and tokens. Among the coins people invest in, bitcoin has the least concentrated ownership, says Spencer Bogart, managing director and head of research at Blockchain Capital. The top 100 bitcoin addresses control 17.3 percent of all the issued currency, according to Alex Sunnarborg, co-founder of crypto hedge fund Tetras Capital. With ether, a rival to bitcoin, the top 100 addresses control 40 percent of the supply, and with coins such as Gnosis, Qtum, and Storj, top holders control more than 90 percent. Many large owners are part of the teams running these projects.

Some argue this is no different than what happens in more established markets. “A good comparison is to early stage equity,” BlockTower’s Paul wrote. “Similar to those equity deals, often the founders and a handful of investors will own the majority of the asset.” Other investors say the whales won’t dump their holdings, because they have faith in the long-term potential of the coins. “I believe that it’s common sense that these whales that own so much bitcoin and bitcoin cash, they don’t want to destroy either one,” says Sebastian Kinsman, who lives in Prague and trades coins. But as prices go through the roof, that calculation might change.

BOTTOM LINE - It’s not necessarily illegal for big holders of some cryptocurrencies to discuss trading with one another. That puts small buyers at a disadvantage.

I asked a dude if he knew whether or not he was investing in the actual currency or was he investing a company that is developing their own unique block chain technology. He looked at me as if I was speaking a foreign language.

Then, he starts talking about Ripple. This was at the time that AMEX and Santander partnered with Ripple to ease and/or speed-up foreign transfers of large payments.

All that to say, I left his presentation when he couldn't provide some sort of intelligible response. I've since decided not to engage, on this or related topics, with the guy who invited me to the damned thing to begin with.

I have a couple of services that I pay in BTC. I like the idea that I can make a payment and there's no paypal address or CC number to get breached. Even if the sites did store my address (I'm not using BTC for privacy) and subsequently get hacked...they only have my public key, not my private key (which is on a hardware device), so they can't make a run on my account.

...I'm pretty sure this is why the government and old-school financial analysts are salty due to not being able to regulate/make money off of this yet.

Funny how I yanked out my initial investment the day BEFORE Bitcoin and Coinbase released the statement for folks to "invest wisely". I think they are trying to slow down people hopping in and out quickly as stated above.

People are buying bitcoin (a causing the price to sky rocket) not because it is a valuable and useful technology/currency. They are buying it with the hopes that they can unload it later at a much higher price.

That is their expectation. That there will be someone else down the line willing to buy it at a higher price. But eventually, people are going to get tired of playing the game and get off the elevator. And some folks are going to be left holding the bag (of useless bitcoin).

When will this happen? I don't know. But it WILL happen. Has to. There hasn't been fundamental news or information that has changed the value of bitcoin this much over such a short span of time.

As with any bubble, you'll never know where you are in the cycle. We could be at the beginning where there is still plenty of time to get in and money to be made. Or we could be at the end where people finally realize their irrationality and the bubble pops.

I too think it's gonna be a time to dump.

I personally think what I did was the best with the initial investment I made a couple months ago...letting it stack to double and then pulling out percentages totaling my initial investment.

It's all a numbers game.

"is bitcoin a currency?"

and the answer is...kinda...

I know that they are going to implement segwit and the lightening network
which should bring down transaction fees and processing time

but still, using pure bitcoin for purchases feels something not unlike using actual gold to make a transaction - its slow and inefficient

so, I think based on the way people have been treating it and the the technical issues its having (mind you, I'm only talking about bitcoin's issues, other cryptocurrencies have different issues) I'm leaning towards thinking of bitcoin as a store of value. its a safe place to park your money.

What gives anything value really?

I doubt many would.

And what gives anything value? Complicated question in general.
I would say something has value if people demand/want it (not really utility, but related).

Bitcoin has value NOW because people want it. But why do people want it? I'd say most want it strictly because they think they can flip it. So in my mind, the value is temporary

at least with the aspect of blockchain technology. I'm glad the price has been climbing but I'm kinda not at the same time. I was originally betting on it being a bucket of many to store cash outside of a savings account, stocks, 401k, bonds, etfs, etc

Not much more than that.

Bitcoin has seen a several serious tests to its security, scalability, resiliency to coordinated attacks, etc. It's passed them all.

Contrast these qualities with several major fiat currencies that are looking fishy including the yuan and possibly the dollar.

LiteCoin mining is still viable.
Ether sorta.
BitCoin no.

Rent and bills can be paid using a dual VGA card LiteCoin mine.

Come off coin base (IRS).

Put you coin in a hardware wallet and then back the hardware wallet up.

There is an app called SavR that works like the keep the change savings program from Bank of America that invests your debit card transaction roundups into bitcoin. Works with most wallets.

If you decide to get into a new Coin make sure to buy some and stake some.
Staking basically lets you earn interest on the amount of coins you stake.
Staking helps secure the blockchain and create new blocks which you will be rewarded for in interest.

Keep an eye on Paragon Coin.
The marijuana industry is betting heavily on having their own crypto.

the blockchain difficulty to paraphrase isn’t as hard as BTC.
The advantage is pretty much the majority of miners are on BTC.
So there is less traffic decoding blocks.

You basically need a GPU that can run Battlefield 1 on Ultra settings x 2.
Also a higher end PSU. Ram doesn’t matter more than 8 gigs.

Don’t expect to break the bank. This is more of the long game.

from folks i trust, not sure where to start. At this point, I'm thinking of just putting in $1k & seeing what happens.

From the folks who have invested, 1) would you suggest I put that all into one type of crypto or diversify? 2) in your best estimate, say I let that cook for ~1-3 years, what are folks looking at as far as a return?

to see if you like it and if you use Coinbase you can only get $740 or so out at time and maybe in but I’m not 100% on the latter.

I put half in Bitcoin and half in Etherium. Both provided returns but I think I like bitcoin a little more probably due to its popularity with the public.

After my experience I don’t think I’d leave money in for 1 to 3 years unless I bought at a crazy low price. The volatility is such that it seems best to buy and sell quickly imo.

..you can follow the main coins for a cpl weeks and input what you "would have" invested and follow that amount for two weeks to assess from there.
I would also invest in multiple as opposed to just one coin.

Main ones..Bit..Ether..Lite...
Other ones...Ripple..Cardano..Dash..Iota..etc.. <==plenty to research.

some people go as far as reading up on teams and who's who behind coins

I just skim the whitepaper and read a summary and go from there

bitcoin is big but it has high fucking fees until they implement lightning network

litecoin is big and its been steadily climing. if bitcoin is gold, litecoin is silver. its the lighter faster bitcoin without the hype

eth. operates very differently from bitcoin and litecoin

xrp is vastly different

iota/raiblocks are also very very different

its an interesting time we're in

oh and by diversify I mean, pick a balance that works for you and don't fuck with it.
people lose money all the time trying to day trade.

I remember researching BTC a while ago when it was like 1 BTC to $2-3000 USD. But I remember thinking how difficult it'd be for me to actually earn cash back into my pocket/bank account without having hacker-type abilities to sell and maneuver through that part of cyberspace. I feel so dumb right now. If I did invest at the time, I'd def be selling now tho, and buying in the other cryptos out.

alts are funny as shit

but, here is the thing, the knowledge is right there - everyone produces a white paper. If youre interested in something then read up on it.

I'm holding several alts for different reasons.

something is gonna be done to try and hinder it (see bitcoin cash), china banning trading, tax laws etc.

But a lot of people are gonna make major bank off of this technology(way more than those who already have).

Banks may go the way of the pay phone.

It's scary yet amazing.

This feels exactly the same. There wasn't a no-profit-making stock out there that didn't go up in value back then. There wasn't a stock tip that didn't pay until it all stopped.

Folks made plenty of money back then too (I know I did). The only difference is, when the music stopped your earnings were already in USD.

When the music stops on these coins, I don't think there will be enough money in these exchanges for everyone. Plus, how long would it take for someone to convert to USD and wire *all* their earnings to their bank?

although I think everyone is banking on some big sales company using one of these cryptocurrencies to buy product.

I also see what you are saying about the banks and I wouldn't mind the day that happens most banks probably would shut down.

few things:

- coinbase is not the answer, it's downright scary if you think about it. the us crypto exchanges consist of a monopoly.
- how to cash out? i'm starting to wonder about the liquidity of the exchanges.
- i get the feeling that money/fiat could be trapped there with no realized gains.
- also if this thing crashes, there will be a rush to get out....the exchanges have shown they can't handle rush loads.

what is YOUR exit strategy?

1. think through your worst case scenario. alts crashing and traditional coins staying up? all coins, alts and traditional losing value? how long do you imagine everything losing value? Immediately in the blink of an eye or a slow loss of value. Base your strategy on what you think will happen. If you think alts will crash then you base your move on placing everything back into standard coins. If you think everything will lose value then you set up a stop loss and go from there.

2. What is your target? Figure out your target price and do not deviate and do not look back. Once you hit your target price you sell and walk away. or you sell a portion, or you pull out your initial investment and keep that shit going.

3. Everyone is at the watering hole at once. If you are concerned exchanges cannot handle a mass run then you should base your activities on the exercises mentioned above. From there you will be able to (hopefully) remove yourself from the mix before it hits the fan.

4. however if you believe in the technology and the use cases the technology solves then you sit it all out and let it all rock.

158. "researchers find 1 person drove bitcoin from $150 to $1000"
In response to Reply # 157

https://techcrunch.com/2018/01/15/researchers-finds-that-one-person-likely-drove-bitcoin-from-150-to-1000/

Researchers Neil Gandal, JT Hamrick, Tyler Moore, and Tali Oberman have written a fascinating paper on Bitcoin price manipulation. Entitled “Price Manipulation in the Bitcoin Ecosystem” and appearing in the recent issue of the Journal of Monetary Economics the paper describes to what degree the Bitcoin ecosystem is controlled by bad actors.

To many it’s been obvious that the Bitcoin markets are, at the very least, being manipulated by one or two big players. “This paper identifies and analyzes the impact of suspicious trading activity on the Mt. Gox Bitcoin currency exchange, in which approximately 600,000 bitcoins (BTC) valued at $188 million were fraudulently acquired,” the researchers wrote. “During both periods, the USD-BTC exchange rate rose by an average of four percent on days when suspicious trades took place, compared to a slight decline on days without suspicious activity. Based on rigorous analysis with extensive robustness checks, the paper demonstrates that the suspicious trading activity likely caused the unprecedented spike in the USD-BTC exchange rate in late 2013, when the rate jumped from around $150 to more than $1,000 in two months.”

The team found that many instances of price manipulation happened simply because the market was very thin for various cryptocurrencies including early Bitcoin. “Despite the huge increase in market capitalization, similar to the bitcoin market in 2013 (the period examined), markets for these other cryptocurrencies are very thin. The number of cryptocurrencies has increased from approximately 80 during the period examined to 843 today! Many of these markets are thin and subject to price manipulation.”

The manipulation happened primarily via two bots, Markus and Willy, that seemed to be performing valid trades but did not actually own the bitcoin they were using. During the Mt. Gox hack a number of these bots were able to create fake trades and make off with millions while manipulating the price of BTC.

The publicly reported trading volume at Mt. Gox included the fraudulent transactions, thereby signaling to the market that heavy trading activity was taking place. Indeed, the paper later shows that even if the fraudulent activity is set aside, average trading volume on all major exchanges trading bitcoins and USD was much higher on days the bots were active. The associated increase in “non-bot” trading was, of course, profitable for Mt. Gox, since it collected transaction fees.

But the Willy Bot likely served another purpose as well. A theory, initially espoused in a Reddit post shortly after Mt. Gox’s collapse (Anonymous, 2014b), is that hackers stole a huge number (approximately 650,000) of bitcoins from Mt. Gox in June 2011 and that the exchange owner Mark Karpales took extraordinary steps to cover up the loss for several years.

The bottom line is simple: if Bitcoin wants to be taken seriously it probably shouldn’t be this easy or legal to manipulate the markets. While decentralization is supposed to replace regulation it’s clear that there is still a way to go before it can be truly taken seriously. “As mainstream finance invests in cryptocurrency assets and as countries take steps toward legalizing bitcoin as a payment system (as Japan did in April 2017), it is important to understand how susceptible cryptocurrency markets are to manipulation. Our study provides a first examination,” write the researchers.

...DO NOT SELL!
This has happened before and you should hold(hodl) and wait for the market to correct itself as it has in the past and it will.

Some folks speculate April is when the record climbs are to take place again after the correction but now is the time to invest in other alts you have been eyeing and waiting for the price to drop on.

Do your research!!! Some alt coins I've heard really good things about are EOS, DGB, PRG and XLM.

Don't get enticed into mining BTC tho,
the blockchain is still hard AF for individual miners.

Do mine LTC maybe ETH.

Buy XRP if you can its $1.21 per coin today.
If XRP hits $7 per coin it will over take BTC in market cap.

I'm convinced it is being manipulated by big money investors and now banks.

Still cryptocurrency is the kryptonite of centralized banks. The only thing it needs is more people having access and using it.

i've been reading different blogs and sites but there's a lot of conflicting info. i also tried some of the free tools out there (node40, bitcoin.tax) but for some reason when i export from coinbase it counts my initial purchase twice throwing off all my numbers. I've already spent more than what i bought in for, do i just treat it as income? i don't think the amount is worth me paying for a professional advisor (<$200 spent)

So you will have to pay short term capital gains tax on whatever you didn't buy and hold for more than a year.

If you bought and sold a bunch of times throughout the year, I don't know an easy way to compute your taxable gains.
Seems like it would be a nightmare figuring it all out

Thought of getting into mining but I have heard the cost of 24/7 operation vs. what you gain from is doesn't mean much unless you have a costly rig.

A mining rig runs $2000.

All you need is 10,000 Ethereum coins and you set for life just make sure you get a power efficient rig.

I'm thinking in 2018 BTC will really jump.

I think its no longer viewed as currency but more of a store of value

ETH is on my radar for sure. I will definitely be buying more

blockchain technology is here to stay. did anyone hear about a company buying
over 60k+ acres in nevada to dedicate to the research and development of
ethereum? google, tesla, walmart are located in that area and this would be the
largest occupancy to date.

i listened to the sec hearing a few weeks ago and the united states gov't seems to
be onboard with blockchain(cryptocurrency) in general.

thoughts?

I received forked Bcash, sold that off, picked up some ETH, saw it dipping, cashed out and now waiting for it drop down to 300 or so before I reestablish a position.

Still holding BTC

Other shit, XRP, XLM, Nano, FUN, ICX and ADA.

I'm keeping my eyes on IOTA (will buy if it goes down below 1 dollar)

I dont think the market is dead I think we are in for a long haul and HOPEFULLY a lot of bad shit will die a quick death. Too many erc20 tokens stinking up the place, too many useless projects, so much garbage.

2017 it was about 6100
2016 it was about 700

so...for some people things are pretty good

I've rebalanced things and I'm with projects I believe in as well as one thing I don't believe in and its pure speculation.

but, are you talking about bitcoin?

or are you talking about all cryptocurrency?

or are you talking about distributed ledger or decentralized applications which can be totally different things depending on the application.

people got drunk off the gains and are still dealing with the hangover. The space is in a place where shit needs to die off. There is too much redundancy and no regulation while the folks who got in early kinda want it both ways in that they want no regulation but also hate the shilling of get rich quick pyramid schemes that have no clear plan to produce a working product.

The space is in interesting time where either currently existing products will be leading the lead products in the new world OR the stuff we will really use has not even been created yet and this is all just a warm up.

Interestingly...crypto intersects and passes through that weird area that is the asshole of the internet where reddit, 4chan, gamergate, anonymous, alt-right, incel, the donald, misogyny, hate and racism mix and meet.

some of the great ideas did not need an ICO to get going but they went ahead with it anyway

and, we're in this murky time were protocols are still being defined. we're still debating blockchain vs. sharding vs tangle. the big ideas are not yet ready for the big time but still, there are a lot of dumb easy applications for blockchain that have not been used yet because people are still caught up in OMGMOONSHOTHODL vs creating long standing infrastructure

Ripple has a new partnership/announcement seemingly about every week and seems to be getting the best adoption of any blockchain based technology has had in the enterprise space.

I also keep my eye on Tron quite a bit since they just bought Bittorrent and their CEO, Justin Sun, is somewhat of a prodigy in the space and supposed protege of Jack Ma. If they start fucking around and get cahoots with the likes of Alibaba, Baidu, then they could become serious.

Also worth noting that Tron only just broke from the ethereum network and are already processing more transactions a day then ethereum so they seem to be making some noise.

I'm a little over *coughs*k in and simply playing the waiting game.
