Nov 09th 2017

Nov 10th 2017
146
Nah man if you have nothing to add you say nothing
Nov 12th 2017
244
Saying nothing is worse than getting his words twisted
Nov 12th 2017
245
Not really, if he has no reason to believe the allegations are true
Nov 12th 2017

Nov 10th 2017
153
The point of the whole joke is the NBC shit got brought up
Nov 10th 2017
155
                               Even that is a lie.
Nov 10th 2017

Nov 10th 2017
160
LOL. I see when it comes to woman issues
Nov 10th 2017
150
Crazy how you NOW try to make it about "womens issues"
Nov 10th 2017
154
How's a post about rape not about women issues, Boggie?
Nov 10th 2017
157
Now you're being obtuse. The post I'm replying to is about NBC

Nov 10th 2017

The question I most ask to people is when he's going down, not if.

It's not at all surprising. But I'm morbidly curious as to how bad the NYT piece is, given that I've only personally heard one story (which was very bad, but it was one - and these tend to have so many of the same thing over and over).

how many of the un-named men that are out there in Hollywood are quaking in their boots now. I'm not a big Louis CK fan, but I am interested to see how badly his career will suffer since he appeared to be such a media darling before this rumored story.

Pretty sad what some individuals will do once they get a little semblance of power.

to how terrible Hollywood is for women. I knew things were bad in the sense that women are judged for the looks much more harsher than men in terms of getting prominent roles (for instance, why it's so rare to see older leading women outside of maybe Meryl Streep getting tons of chances), but I had no clue things were this bad away from the camera as well.

If and when stories of children getting abused break, that'll legitimately upset me.

And just so I'm clear so I don't set off a chain of angry responses, I don't condone or excuse women getting abused; it just upsets me more when children are involved since they are much more vulnerable and that can set off years and years of mental torment.

THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH PATRIARCHY

all men are complicit in upholding the culture that encourages and protects this shit

just the other day, i had to check this dude on facebook who has all the right things to say about how awful sexual assualt is and how he's so shocked that its so common..

then in another post, he put up a slideshow of hot women and proceeded to ask Santa to put "one of these under my tree", thereby reducing women to mere objects that can be gifted...which invited other men to make comments and critiques about the women's bodies..

-sports conversations about female athletes that devolve into talking about their looks or sex

-men referring to women as bitches or crazy

-street harassment, telling women to smile when you walk past them, expecting them to speak back when they speak to you

i mean i don't even have time to list all of the ways the average American male is complicit in rape culture & misogyny.

this is bigger (and smaller) than Hollywood

I think anyone who does morbid comedy like dude is probably a good candidate for pushing the limits off camera.

Remember that SNL joke? Yeah.. be prepared to see that replayed over and over again.

It's very believable, especially when you go back at look at Corey Feldman's statements during the 2011 Sheen fiasco. At the time - they seemed innocuous, but viewing it though this changes a lot.

The relevant bit (for anyone who only reads this swipe, there are no line breaks in the quotes so any time there's no name before the sentence, that's the interviewer speaking):

So to you all the episodes of I Spy are in black and white.

Louis C.K.: That’s right.

I just realized I accidentally made a Bill Cosby reference. He’s such a part of popular culture, you forget…

Louis C.K.: Yeah. It’s hard. You can’t edit him out of history. You just can’t. You can’t.

The Cosby Show was an incredible show.

Pamela Adlon: It is incredible.

Charlie Day: Well, God, I mean, I’m going to say something I shouldn’t say. But that guy is such an interesting topic, too. Obviously, he has done some horrible stuff. He’s probably the most prolific rapist in the history of the world.

Louis C.K.: Boy, that word with “rapist.”

Charlie Day: At the same time, he did amazing things for African-Americans.

Ebonee Noel: Yeah. That’s the point that Dave Chappelle makes in his comedy special about Bill Cosby.

Charlie Day: Oh, really? I haven’t seen that. Chappelle beat me to it.

Ebonee Noel: Sorry to break that to you.

Charlie Day: But anyway, that’s an interesting thing. But it’s nice to be in a movie that’s dealing with the complexities of human nature.

Louis C.K.: I think that’s what people end up wanting. You know, like with comedy, over and over again, people choose comedians that are disruptive and a little crazy and profane and say inappropriate things. Americans chose that over and over again; every generation, over and over. And then once every few years, it’s like to cover themselves, I think a little bit because they feel guilty, “We can’t be saying these things anymore!” But once you’ve been through a few – I’ve been doing this for 32 years, stand-up, so none of this fazes me that much, the kind of outrage. Because it’s like, yeah, I know, you did this back in the late ’80s, you did it in the mid-’90s. Once in a while everybody goes, “That’s not us.” So that kind of comedian will always rise, because I think it’s a healthy, positive thing and people will end up choosing it. And I think with movies, too. When Borat opened, I mean that movie was insanely inappropriate, and I never really saw any controversy about it.

Pamela Adlon: Oh, my mother was so upset because she heard about something anti-Jews and she said, “Well, we can’t watch that movie.” Then I finally ended up seeing it. It just makes me so uncomfortable.

Louis C.K.: I know, you hate it because of that.

Pamela Adlon: I don’t like it when people prank people. I can’t stand it. But it’s hilarious how he puts himself out there and everything. But just it ootzes me out. So that stuff, it’s not for everybody.

Louis C.K.: No, it’s not. I think right now, too, that there is an economy of outrage.

I work on the internet. If you write an outrage piece, it can do extremely well.

Louis C.K.: Very well. So, generally, there used to be a natural barrier. Like, well, we just don’t go see that stuff if we don’t like it. We like this stuff so we’re enjoying it. But there’s a lot of money to be made by taking pieces from this, distracting them, and bringing them to these people who don’t want to hear it and saying, “Hey, guess what was said here.” And then there’s an explosion and a defense on this side and all this anger, and then money, paying off like a slot machine. So I think as long as there’s profit in it, I think that’s why this is a bit of a prolonged era of outrage, and I think it’s disingenuous to me, a lot of it. That’s another reason why I don’t believe in reacting to it or trying to negotiate it or trying to make something that’s going to make them all happy, because I believe them and they forget it in a fucking week anyway.

I’ll see someone tweet with the same level of outrage over an episode of a television show as Trump ending the DACA, which deserves a higher level of outrage.

Louis C.K.: That’s right. Then they’ll be as angry about something that means nothing, or more so. But also, it’s only a snapshot of their minds. They tweet and they’re feeling something. They tweet it, and it becomes a record forever.

Ebonee Noel: Somebody who’s so ready to rip apart something that they’re not really that invested in, it’s a piece of art, you could see it or not. But if you’re that ready to get on top of that, that’s about you, I think.

Louis C.K.: And they’re not. They sound really upset, but just like I’m sure you have this thing where you’re in a text conversation with someone you love and you write, “I’ll be there at four,” and they write, “Okay.” And you go, “What did I, what I do?” “What? What the fuck is your problem?” So some people, they just go, “Oh my God, that guy’s a piece of shit. He should die.” Then they forget they wrote it; they didn’t really mean it. And the guy who it’s about is like, “Oh my God.” And it’s a whole bunch of people – it’s like a corporation where people purchase off their liability for what they do, you know? But we’re going somewhere with it, I don’t where it’s going.

Ebonee had a scene that brought the house down when Louis’ character, arguably, makes a move…

Ebonee Noel: Well, the planning of it, I was very pleasantly – actually, they kept saying that. They were like, It’s one of the biggest laughs, you’re going to be excited. But the playing of it is very awkward. I was just doing it and then we did the moment and I was very invested in her feeling sort of surprised that this person she trusts so much would put that move on her. So, really, everybody else was telling me it was funny.

Where is the line on that between funny and horrible?

Louis C.K.: It’s like impossible to quantify.

Ebonee Noel: That’s it. I just saw you shift.

Louis C.K.: I shift in my seat.

Ebonee Noel: Just the shift and the hand.

Louis C.K.: And I put my hand on the couch to get a little leverage, and it’s fucking World War III.

Pamela Adlon: Explosion!

Louis C.K.: It’s the worst thing I ever did.

I feel like we’re close to solving this: What’s the line between the art and the artist? What’s the answer?

Louis C.K.: I don’t think there is one. I think people have to be uncomfortable. Life is uncomfortable. If you want to share the world, you have to be uncomfortable. You have to have mixed feelings about everybody. You have to have the humility to know that you don’t know everything and that there’s things that you’re just never going to get to know, that you can’t decide. And you have to live with that. Or you don’t have to! You can withdraw or stay, talk to your family. There’s plenty of people right around you.

For me, that was part of what happens in the movie – this guy is like all bent out of shape. He’s not even raising his fucking child. He’s not doing his job. He’s ignoring his co-worker and his daughter and he’s getting all excited about this other stuff. So, I think in the end, there’s no easy answer to any of it. We’re all colliding with each other and we’re all capable of hurting and helping each other. I think it’s easy to say I want to discard this person 100 percent, or embrace them 100 percent, but you don’t get to do either. I think you have to accept people’s flaws. You can just shut them out of your life. But if you want to be part of the community of the world, you have to accept your own flaws and other people’s and get what you can from them. That’s all. I don’t know.

Not Weinstein or Cosby level (jesus I hope nobody else did things on those levels) but really bad, and a likely career staller if not a total killer.

It's bad tho.

Im sure the only silver lining his team is seeing in it is that he wasnt out there Spacey'ing or Weinstein'ing women and boys.

If that's to be called or looked at as a silver lining in that situation LOL

I still look forward to his movie and his show and stand up is still great. Hope he is done with being a weird creepy perv. *shrugs*

Cuz for me...I basically grew up on puddin pops Cosby and "pull your pants up, black people" Cosby, so when the news broke I was like "yep, sounds bout right, fuck that nigga"

The first MJ case happened when I was 3 years old...so I was always more of a Princr fan.

But damn...I'm a HUGE Louis CK fan. Love the classic specials like Shameless. Think the tv show is one of the most brilliant shows ever. So when I first heard the allegations I was on some "nah, nah can't be. not Louis!" (Even tho he does have that look). This sucks, man. I can't ride for no rapey ass dude no matter how brilliant he may be.

Only thing changed was who they were as people and what they were doing really.

I still watch Cosby specials. I still watch The Cosby Show and Cosby. I'll still watch Louis stand up. I'll still watch his tv show and definitely watching his movie. As more info comes out on Louis it will dictate whether I would hand him money, definitely not handing Cosby money for a show or to buy his products since his shit came out.

Being a fucked up person doesn't negate how well you did your art or job. It can if you allow it. But thats because you consciously meshing the 2 different worlds of who they are and what their job or art was. People have their reasons to do it and so be it, but I hate when people try to convince you that YOU have to do it as well or you are a bad person LOL foh

When ARods shit came out for steroids/being a snitch/asshole I didn't care. Dude is still one of the greatest baseball players we've ever seen. I never rooted for the guy after that, I actually hate his persona but I can never take away how good of baseball player he was.

So yeah that part sucks...but I don't let it effect my opinion on why I like their work.

People ask how can you do that? How can you separate the two? And its pretty easy. Learn to separate feelings from opinions. You have to. I can't go around attaching personal feelings to everything. Thats exhausting.

reminds me of bigger outlets calling buzzfeed 'fake news' because they published the contents of the then uncorroborated 'dodgy dossier'. now that details included in the dossier are continuously being confirmed (including trump bodyguard recently confirming the russian offer of group sex)...the bigger outlets are taking all of the credit.

the writer says they were given access to the apologies Louis CK made to the women he had the encounters with. Unless the women somehow fabricated or doctored the apologies, I dunno how you can be too cynical about the incidents.

Mel Gibson's career was dead, until it wasn't. He's in big budget holiday sequels ten years after yelling anti-Semitic slurs at cops and beating his girlfriend (and throwing the N word around, too.)

Sadly, I don't even think Spacey's really "done."

I think I generally agree with you. Not related (but kinda related) but I don't buy the storyline that the Superbowl killed Janet Jackson's career. Or that LL Cool J killed Canibus's career. or many of ____ killed ___ career storylines.

I think if Janet's album post superbowl was super dope, she would have been okay. Same with Canibus post LL Cool J battle. (I know its weird to mix scandals with beefs but I think in this regard it's all damage to career).

Anyway, that Chris Brown keeps doing it makes me think that if you keep producing good work, folks will ride with you. I could have Sworn Officer Rickey stuff would have been the end of Rick Ross but then he dropped that mafia music stuff.

Same goes with Bill Cosby, the allegations about him were around forever. It took him no longer being at the height of his powers for the allegations to take him down. Same for Harvey Weinstein.

This is right today and the climate has changed

Also, unfortunately putting your hands on a woman ain’t the same as raping and sexually assaulting them.

Accusations are one thing but actually hearing admissions of guilt? That’s a problem.

Look at Ray Rice? Career done once that tape dropped.

Chris Brown is a little different.. R Kelly as well. If you can make people dance I think you ha e a much greater chance of pushing forward. Especially when the victim comes out in support of you.

Louis CK’s career is all about shitty self degrading humor. It won’t be easy for him but he does have a nice portion of his fan base who prolly doesn’t see anything wrong with what he is since he asked for permission before doing the deed.

I don't think this is totally a love letter to Woody, but it is certainly at the very least indirectly inspired by his life and work. I think it's a little disappointing that word on the street is the movie doesn't take much of a stance on anything, which has always been my favorite thing about Louie's film and stand up work: it takes a stand, even if as it turns out he can be a major hypocrite behind the scenes. In many ways I think we always had to be prepared for that. Smart people can be disgusting, especially if they're often smart about disgusting subject matter.

I wonder if Jim Norton is ever going to get spit on the roast at this point? Or is he an open enough delinquent that he only associated with fellow delinquents and none of the women in his life were debased or disgusted by his peculiarities?

Chris Rock Show was a fallback gig for him; he turned down creator credit to head up the Dana Carvey Show, and when that bombed as unexpectedly and spectacularly as it did he knew he had a job waiting for him at Rock's show. On paper he was low level but I'm sure his name carried a lot of weight in the halls of that office.

All the stories involves comedians on the road/hotels and cornering people who effectively ‘cant go home’ in solo situations. Gotta figure a stable gig like Chris where there’s a set and everybody knows where everyone is..its hard to pull off his shenanigans.

Thing is tho, Chris is so dialed into the comedy world so i doubt he had no clue

NO LAUGHING MATTER
Louis C.K.’s Powerful Army of Celebrity Enablers
For years, Louis C.K.’s fellow male comedians refused to comment on the sexual misconduct allegations against their friend (and sometime mentor).

Marlow Stern
MARLOW STERN
11.10.17 12:00 AM ET

In the fall of 2015, I sat down with Aziz Ansari to discuss his excellent new Netflix series Master of None. We met at The Greenwich Hotel (his suggestion) and, over the course of an hour—and several cups of coffee—engaged in a lively, unbridled discussion touching on race, comedy, and everything in between.

There was only one question that he refused to answer.

Midway through the interview, the topic of sexual harassment came up. The seventh episode of his show, titled “Ladies and Gentlemen,” sees Dev (Ansari’s character) and his pal Denise (Lena Waithe) making a citizen’s arrest after catching a middle-aged man masturbating on the subway. Dev then proceeds to take a victory lap, bragging about the incident to his other female friends, who subsequently brand him a “masturbation vigilante” before sharing their own sexual harassment horror stories.

“The seed of that episode came from a bit during my Madison Square Garden special where I’d talk about women getting followed home by creepy dudes, and I’d ask during the bit, ‘Raise your hands if you’re a woman and you’ve been followed home,’ and everyone would raise their hand. And then all the other women would look around and go, ‘What the fuck?!’ Then, I’d ask all the guys if they expected all the women to raise their hands, and none of them really did. They couldn’t believe it,” he told me.

He continued: “I thought it was interesting that this is happening, yet so many people are unaware of it. And the problem is people aren’t talking about it. What I’ve learned, as a guy, is to just ask women questions and listen to what they have to say. Go to your group of female friends and ask them about times they’ve experienced sexism at their job, and you’ll get blown away by the things they tell you. You’ll think, ‘What the fuck? This is way darker than anything I’d imagined.’”

I then proceeded to ask him about the sexual misconduct allegations against Louis C.K., a sometime mentor of Ansari’s. The two share a manager, Dave Becky, and booking agent, Mike Berkowitz—two of the more powerful figures in the comedy world, who also represent Kevin Hart and a slew of other top-shelf comics.

“I’m not talking about that,” Ansari brusquely replied.

“I was told to delete a tweet I wrote about Louis CK abusing women before I applied to a high-profile comedy job because the people conducting the hiring process might not like it.”
— Nicole Silverberg, comedian

Over the years, I’ve asked a number of famous male comedians about the allegations against Louis C.K., which have been widely known since a 2012 Gawker story titled, “Which Beloved Comedian Likes to Force Female Comics to Watch Him Jerk Off?” They’ve all either declined to comment or, in the case of Jim Gaffigan, went off the record to share their thoughts on the matter. Only a handful of brave female comics were willing to shine a spotlight on C.K.’s alleged abuse, including Roseanne Barr and Tig Notaro in interviews with The Daily Beast.

The tentacles of Louis C.K., who stands accused of sexual misconduct by at least five women, spread throughout the comedy world. He worked as a staff writer for Late Night with Conan O’Brien, Late Show with David Letterman, and The Chris Rock Show. As head writer on The Dana Carvey Show, he was boss to comedians Stephen Colbert and Steve Carell. He mentored the likes of Ansari and Amy Schumer, and counts Jerry Seinfeld and Ricky Gervais as personal friends. Many of these A-listers in the C.K. orbit surely knew about the widespread sexual misconduct allegations against the comedian, but chose to turn a blind eye to it. Instead, they welcomed C.K. on their programs, like The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, casually reminiscing about comedy days of old.

After The New York Times’ investigation broke on Thursday, Parks and Recreation creator Mike Schur issued an apology for having C.K. on his NBC show even though he’d caught wind of the allegations against him (the show’s star, Amy Poehler, shares a manager with C.K.):

I don't remember when I heard the rumors about him. But I'm sure it was before the last time he was on Parks and Rec. And that sucks. And I'm sorry.— Ken Tremendous (@KenTremendous) November 9, 2017

These days, C.K. is one of the most famous comedians alive. He regularly sells out Madison Square Garden, has a lucrative deal with Netflix, and produces and stars in a number of TV shows, including the FX programs Louie, Baskets, and Better Things. Next week, he was scheduled as one of the headliners of the Jon Stewart-hosted Night of Too Many Stars: America Unites for Autism Programs. The program will still air November 18th on HBO, but without the participation of C.K., whose content was also removed from all HBO platforms. FX, for its part, issued a statement that read:

“We are obviously very troubled by the allegations about Louis C.K. published in The New York Times today. The network has received no allegations of misconduct by Louis C.K. related to any of our 5 shows produced together over the past 8 years. FX Networks and FXP take all necessary actions to protect our employees and thoroughly investigate any allegations of misconduct within our workplace. That said, the matter is currently under review.”

It was not easy to stand up to someone as well-connected as C.K. On Thursday afternoon, the comedian Nicole Silverberg shared a disturbing story on Twitter that spoke to C.K.’s power and influence. “I was told to delete a tweet I wrote about Louis CK abusing women before I applied to a high-profile comedy job because the people conducting the hiring process might not like it. These women who have spoken up are brave, and we owe them so much,” she wrote. Meanwhile, in The New York Times piece, the comedy duo of Dana Min Goodman and Julia Wolov, who charge that C.K. abruptly began masturbating in front of them, said that “when they told others about the incident in the Colorado hotel room, they heard that Louis C.K.’s manager was upset that they were talking about it openly. The women feared career repercussions.”

On top of all this is the cavalier way C.K. approached the sexual misconduct allegations against him—brushing off questions in interviews with non-denial denials, and even going so far as incorporating them into his art.

Rape and masturbation jokes have long been a staple of C.K.’s stand-up oeuvre, but in recent years, in the wake of the aforementioned Gawker exposé, the comedian appeared to be taunting his victims—and the public. First came the controversial Louie episode “Pamela: Part 1,” wherein his character, an avatar of himself, attacks Pamela Adlon’s in an apartment, attempting to overpower her before she finally fights free. C.K. later argued that the scene represented a “consensual” encounter, calling it “a fun train wreck of a ride.” Then there’s his upcoming film I Love You, Daddy, a bizarre ode to Woody Allen focusing on a sixty-something director engaged in a romantic affair with a 17-year-old girl, where “a character pretends to masturbate at length in front of other people, and other characters appear to dismiss rumors of sexual predation,” reported the Times.

In the wake of sexual assault allegations against film mogul Harvey Weinstein, filmmakers James Toback and Brett Ratner, and the actor Kevin Spacey, there’s been plenty of talk about the nature of allyship and how passivity on the part of powerful men contributes to a culture of silence surrounding sexual abuse. Why did Brad Pitt, one of the biggest movie stars in the world, work with Harvey Weinstein not once, but twice after the executive had allegedly attacked both his ex-fiancée Gwyneth Paltrow and then-wife Angelina Jolie? Why did Quentin Tarantino, whose films are responsible for much of Weinstein’s success, continue to work with him after learning that he attacked his ex-girlfriend, Mira Sorvino?

The onus can’t only be on women to stand up to male predators. Men—particularly men of power and influence—must be willing to speak up for what is right, and refuse to align themselves with the creeps of the world.

Who lived in the south in the 90s when these incidents occurred to speak on sexual misconduct situations about his friend, his manager + booking agent’s fellow client, fellow comedian and have a stance on it/take action on something he couldnt possibly know was the truth or not LOL thats Aziz’s responsibility?

And to ask that question when you are there to disucuss his show? Lol word?

Aziz knows the scene, shares management, booking, and the boys club. If something was up, he'd most likely know. And clearly he did. That's exactly why you ask the question.

All he got were assumptions based on a non exchange on the subject to lead his article

Not exactly great journalism.

And to assume you KNOW for fact what your colleagues are doing is pretty dumb IMO. I can ask you about a number of people you personally know or work with and you wouldnt be able to tell me a lot of what they do behind closed doors.

Im not defending Louis or what he's accused of im just saying its pretty stupid to write an article trying to paint a picture of irresponsibility of people like Aziz as if he knew the facts. Thats just gotcha journalism without the gotcha

It's a completely reasonable question for a journalist to ask PARTICULARLY with Aziz going on about how many women are sexually harassed, and how it's terrible, *and* his relationship with Louis.

Aziz practically begged him to go there.

This is the biggest fall we've seen; Louis CK is at the height of his career and is relatively young particularly as far as comedians go. Dude was making tv shows, movies straight outta pocket and getting critical acclaim on top of selling out stadiums on a regular basis. Spacey, Weinstein were kinda on the way out career wise (Weinstein's movie company was going through tough times). The way his career was going CK might have actually been able to buy NBC in ten years time, LOL.

on purpose.

The teeth in your avy against the black background
are starting to make sense in a minstrel sort of way.

Not only does this whole "tried to buy NBC"
joke not even make sense when you apply it
to white men, but you're sitting here making
the buckdancing joke to white people.
Smh.
I'm not sure if you think Bill wasn't in negotiation
to buy the company, and I'd tell you to read about
it so you know... but I've done that before (in
reference to early suffragists calling for deaths
of Black men) and you flat out refused to do your
homework, so I don't expect you to read up on
anything. You really do insist on shucking and
jiving for white people and making N/A jokes.
But hey, you and "thegodcam" don't care why the
joke doesn't make sense right? Cool. But yall
really do look dumber and dumber each time you make it.

I mean i crack a joke about how Cosby’s raped hella woman, black woman included, and he swoops down to go save a dude that spent the previous decade on a niggers are shiftless tour.

But whats funny about him is that since he sees himself as the wokest motherfucker on the block he can’t see that you can perfectly see that someone with Cosby’s stature the white establishment might hate and railroad (hence the dive in his post cosby career)...and stlll be a motherfucking rapist.

so the narrative at the time was he absolutely did rape them, but the reason it was coming out then was because of an NBC deal a decade later after his career was on a downward spiral?

Id at least agree that it's because he was black and uncool thus an easy scapegoat for the others to scurry under at the time. But the NBC shit? LOL

But luckily we've got articles that shows that it wasn't the case and it wasn't just 'oh we believed the rapes, we was just saying only reason he got caught was cause he was a big player in the entertainment world...ten years ago'

The whole NBC thing was people positing

Whose narrative? You're off topic again.
And funny that the "proof" is an opinion
piece by a "swirler" who goes way out of her way
to get Black women to leave Black men alone and
uses the term "Hotep" while trying to be
taken seriously as a journalist.
It's like you're allergic to solid research and
historical context.

I made a reference about how when Bill Cosby was accused as opposed to dealing with the facts people were like, "LIES, ITS BECAUSE OF NBC" despite the overwhelming evidence.

If you wanna bring up a side conversation about how Bill Cosby got railroaded when he got too powerful, shit, I might even agree.

But we talking Louis CK, other famous rapist dudes, making a jokes about Cosby and you're the one coming in here on some 'YOU SAMBO NIGGAS NEED TO GET OFF OF COSBY, ITS ABOUT TRUTH IN JOURNALISM'

When we all cracking jokes at the expense of Hollywood racists in general. So I don't know why you coming in here all "STRAWMAN STRAWMAN STRAWMAN" when nigga, youse the one going off topic. Nobody was digging deeper on that NBC dig as opposed to the fact it was a popular opinion when Cosby was the first chip to fall. So all I gotta say is this:

I'm more than willing to answer your questions,
(actually they've been answered, but I don't mind
making it remedially clear by answering the questions
directly), but you answer mine first...

If you want to know what's going on in
this conversation, why are you only questioning
me? Do you agree with Reg? Is it that you think
I might have a point that you may not be grasping,
so you want to hear more about my thoughts? Do you
think I'm more apt to provide a rational conversation
than Reg? Are you just challenging me out of hatred
for what you like to call my "militant/tough guy" thoughts?

If it's that last one, just don't even respond to this,
because it'll be another useless interaction.

Pryor type level of special where he talks about it.

It would be hard but not impossible. I am going to get killed for saying this but his story sounds somewhat different from the harvey weinstein and the other dudes who seemed to get off on the power dynamics and the non-consent. These stories sound like an awkward perv who was probably high with the episode with the two girls and somehow thought it was okay (he asked permission, they were laughing). I could be totally wrong, but that is a story he could probably sell to the world.

In response to Reply # 132

He is different from an actor or director who need tons of people to pull off a movie.

It was a big deal a few years ago that CK Louis was pulling of creating and distributing his own specials purely through his website.

He will be damaged. And he will be less of a mainstream icon. But he will also keep a lot of his following and be able to live off of them for the time for him to come back ala Mel Gibson style.

What he did was disgusting and unforgivable but I agree that it's not *quite* on the level of Harvey and the others, though it's in the same category. If that makes sense.

But yea - it also sounds like it's been I dunno, what, 10-15 years since the last reported incident ? In which case I have to hope that he had a moment of clarity, realized how deplorable his actions were and corrected himself.

Could be 10000% wrong, of course. He could've been doing the same shit up thru yesterday morning. Just saying the NYT report's latest incident was what, like 2005 ?

Time passed doesn't make what he did forgivable or excusable AT ALL, to be clear. He ruined lives, and he should pay. Just saying I agree to an extent that this shit is a SLIGHTLY different level, IMO, than the Harvey type shit.

Sounds like each instance he asked permission and in the one incident where it was clear that the woman said "no" he didn't do it.

It feel like a damn perv myself arguing yeah its wrong he beat it in front of women but at least he asked permission and for the most part people won't care, but the consent element is an important distinction.

Because it's not coincidence that he had this scandal brewing under the surface and he made a movie with a touchy sexual subject.

I was curious to see the movie just to see what his commentary was on Woody Allen and strange sexual stuff.

I read this reviewer who did this review of Woody Allen's catalouge with the rape allegations in mind and the reviewer convinced me that Woody Allen was admitting his guilt in his later movies (e.g., there was this constant theme in his movie of people getting away with crimes).

If only to see where he takes it. From what it sounds like, there's a lot of "it's his private life/he's a genius" vs. "but that's MY teenage daughter" tension. Which could still be done well, but I have no idea how he actually handles it.

While the statement is not a get of off jail free card, it's damn near pitch perfect and checks a lot of boxes...

Fully admits to the crimes - Yep

He apologizes personally and professionally - Yep

Breaks down the power dynamic between himself and his admirers - Yep

Used his privilege to not think about that power dynamic - Yep

Seemed authentic (that's probably we he went with the use of "dick" in the final draft)- Yep

He said:

"These stories are true. At the time, I said to myself that what I did was okay because I never showed a woman my dick without asking first, which is also true."

The last clause, "which is also true" is his effort to somehow soften the blow... lessen the offense. You don't get an asterisk when you're whipping your dick out and masturbating in front of people. It's gross and undermines what seems to be an earnest and sincere apology.

But I agree. Overall his PR folks did a good job.

If you read it, that last clause suggests to me that he still doesn't get it. That somehow because he asked (he had to make clear that he was always polite.. that he always asked nicely before whipping his wang out) that he wasn't THAT big a creep.

No and FOH. Respectively.

... it's clear that he was talking about his past thought process vs. his current, which I think is actually perfect. He's not explaining it away in the present or making excuses, he's putting his thought process into context while admitting that later in life ("too late," by his admission) he recognized how that did and does not make what he did OK. Read it again.

"At the time, I said to myself that what I did was okay because I never showed a woman my dick without asking first, which is also true. But what I learned later in life, too late, is that when you have power over another person, asking them to look at your dick isn't a question. It's a predicament for them."

A creep is a creep, for sure. He deserves no sympathy.

But there are fucking *DEFINITELY* degrees and/or levels of creep behavior, let's be serious here. Drugging and raping, or violently/forcibly raping a woman are EONS beyond asking for permission, barely getting it, then whipping your junk out and beating it.

Both fucking creepy and atrocious - absolutely.

Neither excusable under any circumstances - definitely.

Neither deserving of sympathy - yep yep yep.

But the same level and degree of creepiness/repulsiveness ? GTFOH, plz.

... so I appreciate your olive branch. It's too new.

May be a topic to revisit down the line though, because I think in the current national landscape, with so many apologies being necessary for so many things, it'd be nice to know exactly what to say and what not to say to satisfy the masses. Haha.

But it's important to understand that plotting these offenses along a spectrum or a continuum, while logical, is dangerous and we shouldn't do it.

One woman described a situation where he actually called her up, asked her to come to his office and watch him jerk off. She thought about it, then decided to go. He did it, she watched, then left. He never touched her.

Doesn't sound as bad, except for the fact that they really just knew each other from work and had never even really hung out like that. There was zero pretext for him to ask her this, and at the very least, it made things very awkward for her.

Context is important.

That's the chariot we riding in on?

Sorry I stabbed you but I didn't cut your face so no one will see.
Sorry I raped you but at least I didn't kill you.

Macro level, that question... that thinking is so fucking problematic.

It's an incredibly dangerous and slippery slope to suggest that *some* creepy behavior is better than other creepy behavior making the better creepy behavior more OK. He asked so he isn't 'THAT' bad. Those hairs are far too dangerous to split.

The other reason is: you don't get a pass for committing (what you perceive to be) a lesser offense. Your effort to curry favor while admitting gross behavior says to me you don't fucking get it and EVEN IF I could barf up some measure of belief that there are levels to this shit, you, Louis CK/Weinstein/Cosby/R.Kelly/Spacey/Ratner simply do not deserve that grace.

Finally -- and speaking of R. Kelly -- this conversation is the very reason R. Kelly moved from adolescents to barely adults -- we led him to believe that THAT shit crosses a line, but this new shit lets you just bump up against it. We showed him, by way of these kinds of conversations, that there is an out clause.

It's far too dangerous a conversation to have. There is no asterisk. Your behavior was absolutely deplorable and impacted many lives. Full stop.

all turns on Consent.

You can be into beating it off in front of people, sucking toes, whips, etc. but as long as everyone is consenting then it really isn't anyone else's business.

The big caveat/exception to that is the abuse of power in order to coerce consent. Bosses pressuring employees. Judges, Police, Teachers, and other people in authority abusing their power to coerce consent from people.

The big question to me with Louis CK is did he get consent and/or did he abuse his power to do what he did.

The power element is a bit cloudy because it's not clear to me whether he was trying to get quid pro quo from these women (ie, sex act in exchange for advancing career). I'd like more clarity on that.

But I think your line of thinking is kind of dangerous because it kind of sounds like you are saying that consent doesn't matter, creepy is just creepy which is slippery slope to sodomy laws and such.

What exactly about the 'power element' is 'cloudy' considering he copped to it? Huh? So now we need implied quid pro quo for someone to abuse their power?

Seriously though.

If it doesn't turn on consent, what does it turn on? How gross the act is?

Of course there is the abuse of power issue but I guess I am trying to figure out if there is a difference between a celeb bagging groupies versus abusing power. To me abusing power would be a celeb knowing that a woman wants to meet for professional purposes and you start talking sex. If CK invited those two women back to his hotel room to "discuss their careers" yeah that's an abuse of power. If CK Louis invited them back to his hotel room to smoke weed and party, then maybe he tried to shoot his shot and misread the room.

I just don't want these cases to turn on the sexual act itself because there are a lot of people into freaky shit and I don't want freaky shit to be demonized. You have to get consent of course. You have to not abuse power, but after that, I am not trying to stop folks from flying their freak flag.

What happens though is that folks tend to get prudish in these convos and start talking about "in what scenario would it ever be okay to jerk off in front of someone!" but the fact of the matter is, there are men and women into that shit (for the record, that sounds goofy looking if you ask me and I am not into it, but I am just saying).

I will admit it. I am reserving hope that Louis CK is not a Harvey Weinstein type. And I can do that taking the NYTimes piece, the women's statements and his statement at face value. Sex can be awkward, and I just hope that dude didn't have malicious intent, he is just awkward at sex.

Reading through the stories it seems as if it was asked so out of the blue they didn't take him seriously/were taken off guard.

Legally it was consent but I think it would have been an entirely different situation if he came in, flirted (so everyone knew what the context was) then popped the question. He intentionally blindsided them.

It makes it look like you're having a Louis CK conversation, he throws that in there which I have to assume a lot of people thought he was fucking around, then BAM...Louis dick, lol

CK's thing likely wasn't purely or mostly about getting off - for him or for the women involved. It was probably also about power and terror/torture.

But I see where you're coming from otherwise. Both you and soulpsychodelicide. Consent is irrelevant bc a person can't consent to being terrorized. Terror relies on lack of consent. And in these CK situations there's no way the victims could offer consent in those moments. He was terrorizing them. He was putting or keeping them in their place. He was sending a message.

fuck you.

Everything deserves context and nuance, no matter how disgusting.

People who can't hold it and piss in public are labeled "sex offenders" but they are a different level than people who rape children. As they should be. (I'd argue that they shouldn't even be labeled "sex offenders" but that's another topic for another day).

Drugging and/or violently raping someone *should* be considered a different level of creepy than asking permission, wrongly perceiving positive response, and masturbating in front of someone. Hence why one is a felony, the other isn't even considered criminal.

Further, CK *ACKNOWLEDGED* this which is why I'm confused as to why we're even having this discussion. I agreed with someone above that the "which is true" may not have been necessary but I do think that his reason for bringing up that nuance in his apology was sound and appropriate. He acknowledged the error(s) in his thinking, confirmed that he learned ("too late," <--- was that unnecessary too ?) from his disgusting behavior and made a change, then went on to profusely and properly apologize to everyone involved while recognizing how his privilege played a part in his entire existence and why he got away with his bullshit for so long.

Honestly now that I'm typing all this out I'm like - man why am I defending this dude. I'm not. I'm defending the apology. But recently I've picked up on the fact that literally no matter what the offense, and no matter HOW someone apologizes, someone will find a way to nitpick at it (which is what this is) even if it's not deserved.

Like, yeah, someone beating a person down so hard their teeth are scaterred across the pavement and forcing themselves on em is 'worse' then using the ''implication" method(c)Always Sunny in Philly of sex assault.

Problem is when we split hairs like that inevitably, even if its not the intention, we start making it easy for people to get away with shit. What Louie did wasn't criminal but it was absolutely creepy and fucked with people's livelihoods when they wanted to say something.

It a slow but decisive creep to "because there's clearly evil-er behavior it means maybe the behavior isn't evil".

Louie shouldnt get a pass because the other two big hollywood creepos were grabbing at people during their assaults but Louie kept his hands to himself (unintentional pun, but ill take it)

Nothing I said really contradicts anything you said. For instance, I explicitly said that CK doesn't get a pass. That doesn't mean there isn't nuance.

>Problem is when we split hairs like that inevitably, even if
>its not the intention, we start making it easy for people to
>get away with shit. What Louie did wasn't criminal but it was
>absolutely creepy and fucked with people's livelihoods when
>they wanted to say something.

I don't really think that's applicable here though. ALL of these people have been getting away with this deplorable shit for DECADES, regardless of the level of their transgression. So now that it's coming out, and the culprits are being punished for it, why can't we discuss the nuance that exists ? Why can't we simultaneously acknowledge the repulsiveness of ALL of their actions while at the same time recognizing that one may be way worse than another ? The legal system works that way. You don't go to jail for life or get sentenced to death for every single crime you commit. So why can't we parse the differences between these crimes, even if they are by and large "similar" in nature ? I just don't get it. We (at least here) are intelligent people. Can't we have an intelligent discussion about this, no matter how disgusted we all are ?

>It a slow but decisive creep to "because there's clearly
>evil-er behavior it means maybe the behavior isn't evil".

I am not saying that. I've made that abundantly clear.

>Louie shouldnt get a pass because the other two big hollywood
>creepos were grabbing at people during their assaults but
>Louie kept his hands to himself (unintentional pun, but ill
>take it)

I also never said he should get a pass. He shouldn't. I've also made *that* abundantly clear.

good start for him, it's always refreshing when an apology reads earnest these days. so many times, it's just, "well I didn't know" or deflects off onto some other social ill that's really way worse so why am I getting picked apart and why now?

as classy a response as a wild pervert can deliver, I say.

Certainly not to the levels he was at a month ago.

But he'll end up fine. Which is odd, but he's putting out a well crafted statement that just takes responsibility, and unfortunately - it pales in comparison to some of the other stories happening right now.

He'll do another special where he talks about all this, release it on his website for $5, and people will forget.

Prolly 6.5 before he's starring in them.

Somebody like Weinstein is done because he was an asshole to everybody, so there's no redemption story arc for him, but Louis was beloved by everybody.

He'll have to spend a few years in self introspection, a few years doing small behind the scenes stuff, and then he'll be back. It took Mel Gibson eight years, so I'll give Louis 6.5 years.

The apology is a good start.

(edit - Not that I support him, but just very cynical about this whole thing. White men seem to always bounce back.)

I'm still so fucking disappointed. Why he would ever think to do this and then justify it in his head with, "Well, I asked them first" is just fucking awful.

Those allegations from a couple years ago came and went WAY too quickly considering how widespread they were. Once Spacey went down I assumed it would only be a matter of time (since Spacey was supposedly a fixture at Singer's underage twink parties.)

At the time, it was right around the time when either X-Men Apocalypse or DoFP was about to come out so I'm sure a big part of that was Fox trying to sweep it under the rug.

In response to Reply # 0

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/george-takei-accused-sexually-assaulting-model-1981-1056698

Accuser Scott R. Brunton says he was groped by the 'Star Trek' icon at the actor's Los Angeles condo.

A former model and actor is accusing Star Trek icon George Takei of sexual assault in 1981. The accuser, Scott R. Brunton, who was 23 at the time of the alleged incident, claims that Takei took advantage of him when he was most vulnerable.

"This happened a long time ago, but I have never forgotten it," Brunton tells The Hollywood Reporter in an interview. "It is one of those stories you tell with a group of people when people are recounting bizarre instances in their lives, this always comes up. I have been telling it for years, but I am suddenly very nervous telling it."

Brunton says he was living in Hollywood in 1981, working as a waiter and beginning a career as a commercial actor and model when he met a 43- or 44-year-old Takei one evening at Greg's Blue Dot bar. The men exchanged numbers and would call one another from time to time as well as run into each other at clubs, Brunton says. When Brunton broke up with his then-boyfriend, he spoke with Takei. "He said, 'Let me know what your new number is' and I did. And not long after we broke up and I moved out, George called me," Brunton recalls.

Takei, as Brunton tells it, invited him to dinner and the theater. "He was very good at consoling me and understanding that I was upset and still in love with my boyfriend," Brunton says. "He was a great ear. He was very good about me spilling my heart on my sleeve."

The two men went back to the actor's condo for a drink the same night. "We have the drink and he asks if I would like another," Brunton recalls. "And I said sure. So, I have the second one, and then all of a sudden, I begin feeling very disoriented and dizzy, and I thought I was going to pass out. I said I need to sit down and he said sit over here and he had the giant yellow beanbag chair. So I sat down in that and leaned my head back and I must have passed out."

"The next thing I remember I was coming to and he had my pants down around my ankles and he was groping my crotch and trying to get my underwear off and feeling me up at the same time, trying to get his hands down my underwear," Brunton says. "I came to and said, 'What are you doing?!' I said, 'I don't want to do this.' He goes, 'You need to relax. I am just trying to make you comfortable. Get comfortable.' And I said, 'No. I don't want to do this.' And I pushed him off and he said, 'OK, fine.' And I said I am going to go and he said, 'If you feel you must. You're in no condition to drive.' I said, 'I don't care I want to go.' So I managed to get my pants up and compose myself and I was just shocked. I walked out and went to my car until I felt well enough to drive home, and that was that."

THR spoke to four longtime friends of Brunton — Norah Roadman, Rob Donovan, Stephen Blackshear and Jan Steward — who said that he had confided in them about the Takei encounter years ago.

Takei's rep, Julia Buchwald, tells THR, "George is traveling in Japan and Australia and not reachable for comment." Takei, now 80, rose to fame playing Hikaru Sulu on the original Star Trek television series. He is also an author and activist and has been an outspoken advocate for LGBTQ rights.

Brunton claims that he met up with Takei years after the incident in Portland, Brunton's current home, while the actor was there on a book tour. "I wanted to see him," Brunton says. "I always wanted to ask him — I just felt really betrayed. I thought I was a friend and here I am later, just another piece of meat. So I called him up at the hotel — I figured out which hotel he was at — and he said 'Hi, Scott. I remember you.' I wanted to ask him why. We met for coffee, and I just couldn't bring myself to do it. It was just too uncomfortable."

Brunton says he considered going to the media with the story for years, but he assumed no one would take him seriously. "Who's going to believe me? It's my word against his," he says.

Brunton's reasoning changed after the Harvey Weinstein scandal, and specifically when Takei spoke out regarding allegations leveled against Kevin Spacey.

On Oct. 29, Anthony Rapp, an actor starring in the latest Star Trek series, claimed to BuzzFeed News that Spacey sexually assaulted him while he was a minor in 1986. Spacey later apologized and came out as gay in response. "When power is used in a non-consensual situation, it is a wrong," Takei said of the Spacey claim in a statement to THR on Oct. 30. "For Anthony Rapp, he has had to live with the memory of this experience of decades ago. For Kevin Spacey, who claims not to remember the incident, he was the older, dominant one who had his way. Men who improperly harass or assault do not do so because they are gay or straight — that is a deflection. They do so because they have the power, and they chose to abuse it."

Brunton says he found Takei's response infuriating. "I don't want anything from him but an apology," he says. "I am sure he'll disown all this, I don't know, maybe not."

He's given the most sincere apology of any of the fuckery fucks. He will be back, whether any of us like it or not. But he should be back as well in my opinion.

Like female employees, staff and anyone else that services comedy clubs, female comedians, audience members who didn't want listen to someone who has admitted to being a sexual predator, the women that didn't come forward who are still working in this field ... none of these people matter?

You would be ok with someone admitting to these things at YOUR workplace and them popping up to the weekly staff meeting after an extended "vacation" unannounced like all is good and it can happen at any time without notice or warning ... what is wrong with y'all?

>HOW they responded.

By denying it and having his management bury the careers of anyone who accused him until it was on the front of the New York Times and it couldn't be denied anymore.

Louis lost a bunch of money/opportunities/time (as well he SHOULD have for pulling that scuzzy shit)

However if he's good enough at what he does that people want to continue pay to see him do comedy/movies you can't really stop them.

This is new territory, people are going to be mad he was able to continue doing comedy in some form or fashion but it's not like a judge can sentence you to working at Walmart for the rest of your life

Like you can't just show up unannounced and do some "Bagels are weird, right?" material when we all know what you did.

What's he been doing the last 10 months?
What's actually changed within him?
Has he reached out to his victims? Done anything on their behalf?
How did the other comics backstage feel? Again, it's a workplace issue for them, was everyone happy to see him?

I mean this was the same day Matt Lauer said he's planning a return to TV. Charlie Rose and Mario Battali are trying to do the same. It's not that they need to die, but they're treating it like "ok, I was in time out, can I be on TV again?"

I really thought Louis would eventually come back, maybe in a couple years, with some kind of special directly addressing it and owning up to what he did (kinda like Chris Rock's most recent special talking about his infidelity, though this is obviously different than that) in the frank and honest way his best material always did. This isn't even close to that.

What is supposed to happen here? The people who don't want him back get to decide for everyone? Audiences can not go see him, walk out, heckle him boo him, Peers who don't want him back can refuse to work at clubs who hire him. Owners who don't want him can refuse him. If that's not enough then enough people want him back.

Because people on either side get to decide whether or not they want to see him. The people who don't want to see him or work with him don't have to. They can walk out, refuse to work with him, express their displeasure to management, etc.. This narrative in that thinkprogress piece is trying to push like the helpless audience was held captive is pretty silly imo. The audience CAN leave, heckle, boo, tweet, complain to management, give shit to their friends who support him, boycott.. whatever. As for the staff, The Comedy Cellar is not exactly a safe space kind of environment from upsetting/offensive shit. Like any other job, you are as powerful as your position or union or financial situation permits.

>Honestly, I want to hear form the women whose careers he

And that's fine, they can/should speak out with bullhorns, they can pressure their peers, and club owners and all that, if it works, cool, if it doesn't it doesn't. life ain't fair. same would go for if his comeback falls flat and people who support him complain he got a raw deal.

There’s no way he isn’t getting back on stage in smaller venues to prep first.

And this was 15 minutes that, under this imagined premise, would be part of at least an hour of material.

Whether or not he does this or should be “allowed” to do this is up for debate, but condemning what he did here as the antithesis to a confessional hour-long special doesn’t make much sense IMO.

Why is HE the only one who we should be concerned with?

he's just doing solo standup
if this is what you're concerned about

>the rights of others to a safe work environment

then this is the BEST thing he could do right now, rather than a new tv show or movie or something where others have to work with him or be on his team or whatever.
He's just writing, by himself. And getting on stage, by himself. He's not putting anyone else is in a position to be uncomfortable around him.
And hopefully its a personal, introspective process thru which he can come to terms with who he is and what he's done.

im struggling to see the problem here.

He literally surprised the crowd by showing up. There may be victims in that crowd, who of course could have left .. but that, by definition, would be "putting them in a position to be uncomfortable around him."

Same with the employees and staff at the venue. For all we know the owner is the only person who had knowledge that he'd be doing this. Otherwise, he just showed up to do a set surprising the rest of the venue. Other comedians, Cellar staff, etc., all put in uncomfortable positions.

Best headline I saw was from ThinkProgress:

i was responding to a comment about a safe WORK environment.
but by this new logic, the man can't even go to the grocery store because the woman in line in front of him is now "in a position to be uncomfortable around him."?

>Same with the employees and staff at the venue.

again, if his presence is the issue, then by your logic he's not even allowed to GO to this club as a patron - the employees and staff would still have to be around him.
I dont know if you've been to many clubs like this - but for a "pop-in" like he just did, his interaction with the staff is minimal to zero.

>"Louis CK Forces Audience to Watch Him Without Their Consent"

as you said - they can leave. And doing so would actually be the strongest statement they could make to club ownership.
again - im not sure what you want him to do that doesn't involve being around ANONE who might be uncomfortable in his presence. We live in the world.

no snark, really asking.

that said, necessary interaction with a "pop-in" for other comics who were there and ppl who work at the club is minimal to none.
and the audience never knows what they might see when they show up - they can make their own choices about the clubs they want to patronize based on who they invite on stage.

Like he should be in isolation for the rest of his life or something. If he got a job at McDonald's, he'd be open to the same criticism (i.e. other people will have to share their space with him)

Which I know people are capable of grasping because there's a giant post on the front page about how Lauryn Hill's (albeit a different kind of) shitty behavior impacted her career.

Nobody has an inherent right to do whatever job they want whenever they want.

What's different between now and last fall?

Has he reflected on this? Made amends to the people he hurt? Does he even realize WHY what he did was so fucked up (not just the acts themselves, but the going after people who tried to talk about it?) What about his friends who did ask him about this who he lied to?

Only Louis actually knows the answers to these questions. But right now, it seems like a case of "well, it's been less than a year, I'm good now."

Forgiveness is something that's earned. What actual things did he do (in your opinion) to earn your forgiveness?

those are all hellapersonal questions, and while you SAY that only he knows the answers to them (true), it really feels like your coming at this with a hard assumption that the answers to all of them are NOPE.

Hes an entertainer. I'm not in the business of "forgiving" him because he didn't do me wrong personally. What he DID do was contribute to a toxic environment for women in his industry and in this country, and my HOPE is that he understands that now, and that he has made amends with the people who he wronged, and from here on out he contributes to an environment of respect for women. It would also be nice if he used his platform to amplify that message.

I guess we'll see when he's finished with this set if he's gonna do that or not. If he hasn't, I don't plan on supporting him. Either way, I'm not gonna clutch my pearls because he popped in for a 15 min set at a comedy club.

I'm saying there's been no indication that he has. IF he is going to do those things, great. But if we can both acknowledge that he needs to earn his way back into people's good graces, shouldn't he actually do something to earn it first?

Because from all appearances, nothing has changed for him between last fall and right now. If that's not the case, he should demonstrate this before walking back in like nothing happened.

Everyone's asking "what's he supposed to do" but no one is asking why he deserves to be back.

JUST DONT GO TO HIS SHOW. Nobody has the right to say be can't do his art. When he "locked" the doors do you think he locked the comedy club from the outside from inside the club LOL those people so upset could've left. They stayed for their own reasons whether they like him or not. Please stop. You sound like a moron. You act as if you know the full story and every detail of what happened or even what he' learned or is feeling now. If there was any growth how would you know? You want growth please go look and do that for yourself because you clearly have issues thinkjfn he doesn't deserve the right to work on do his art for what he was found guilty of doing. Nobody has the right hes not a criminal LOL Please do more research of the people involved in comedy and who was there including the victims. There's seems to be way more to this story and the people involved that a lot of Comedians have been mentioning on their podcasts for all these months. Smh

i haven't been around here for a while, mostly on SBN these days, but i dont remember mods just being straight up assholes to other users for no reason. If you look at the thread i was clearly trying to engage in a discussion, but you just wanna take it there? Alright, cool guy. Enjoy your clubhouse.
