I bring my shoes and change into them at work, and had grabbed the wrong pair. At first, it bothered the shit out of me. By the end of the day, I had softened on the look. Still felt odd tho.

Edit: I have some electric blue pants that I occasionally rock with black shoes. Not sure anyone's getting a whole suit in that color, but blue/black definitely works.

what is the event? what shade of blue is the suit? what is your fashion comfort level?
I believe that the tie, shirt and shoes should make the suit pop. Complimentary colors do wonders like blue goes good with deep purple, fuchsia, gold/burnt orange, grey or even different shades of blue.
If the tie is sateen then it makes a world of difference.

I don't feel like breaking down the variables...the season, the shoe, the man. I will say, of course black works but, a brown balances out the darkness. It also has the potential to draw the eyes away from things you may want to hide...his gut, his height because I'm not sizing you up..
the other day I sitting talking to a guy, he was a big dude. When he stood up, I noticed he wore charcoal gray pants, a white shirt, brown shoes, brown belt. his attire was put together well and his gold watch made everything just pop...
I forgot he was big because I couldn't take my eyes off the shoes not sure if Id feel the same if they were black...

I say brown off the rip.
you could go either way, but certain blues kind of demand a brown counter-tone for me. It's a more stand out, sophisticated look. I try to avoid looking like a cop when I can.
