The Republican governor candidate transformed himself from George Bush into Trump Jr for this race and it's kind of working for him. Recent polls have him winning or the the gap narrowing.
Dems can't lose this one. If you don't live in VA, tell the Virginians you know to vote. Tell you friends, you aunties, your cousins, etc
I was gonna vote robot steez straight Democrate just because....but I got a clearer picture of what's at stake here and WHY folks are surging to get folks out to prevent this clown from getting in the drivers seat for the state....

I don't even like Northam. Dude ran a terrible campaign and does nothing to stand out and get people excited. He pretty much ran against Trump and people need to learn quick that that does not work
But even though Northam sucks (in my opinion) it's important to not let the other guy get the governorship
Policy: Gillespie wants to severely restrict access to abortions. Wants to gerrymander the shit out of VA to guarantee Republican control for decades. Opposes expansion of rights for gay/transgender. Opposes any healthcare relief for the poor. Against immigration. Against minimum wage increases Wants to restrict votinh rights Pretty much any terrible Republican policy, he's got it
But the message this election sends is probably just as important as policy.
This dude went all in on white identity politics. Full on Trump style. Ran ads about preserving confederate statues. Ran ads about NFL players kneeling. Talks about how Latino gangs are overrunning the state (while showing images of el Salvadoran prisons)
He used to be George Bush in the flesh. Just your standard republican corporate lobbyist. But he saw a path to victory through inflaming racial grievance.
If he wins using that strategy in a battleground state like VA, that's a signal to everyone that Trumpism is the way to go everywhere.
So yeah, definitely get out there and vote on Tuesday. Try to get some of your people out too. Because this race is going to depend on turnout

for/after 2010 midterms. led to artificially inflated repub majorities in state legislatures (including virginia) which led to passing voter id and other suppression measures in many state houses (including virginia). also led to a structural repub advantage in the house of commons.
the governor this election will oversee the next round of redistricting and approve new electoral maps after the 2020 census.
if he wins...with already a repub majority in the state house...you can say goodbye to fair elections/representation in virginia til 2032 AT LEAST.
it also puts another state under complete gop control and 1 step closer to being able to call a convention to change our constitution.
dems need to start talking about shit like this out loud in plain terms so voters understand EXACTLY what is at stake in these elections.
