"Who plays poker?"

for play money or for real or both?

in home games or casinos or both?

online? where?

hold'em only or other types like stud or draw?

I'm looking to expand my circle some... get at me and I'll answer my own questions too.

and you shouldn't show your folds unless your folding to the winner and want to.. If you show them before the flop or while other folks are still in the hand it reveals cards that somebody might've paid to see hit the board otherwise, skewing the odds and the play.

it takes practice and study to learn the nuances.

played online for a long time before hitting the casinos. i did okay but i made more money off roulette so i stopped playing cards in the casino...which eventually led to me losing interest in playing online too.

you go hard at them until something else comes up and your interest wanes.. I tend to cycle through them and then go back to them after a trip into something else... I'm into poker right now... online for free casinos for real, thinking of trying to start up a home game ... I don't really trust online algorithms... kinda looking for some online free folk to set up a home game at poker stars or a group of folks who play for real to set up a small private facebook group for discussion etc..

refuse to play online though and hard to find IRL games (that aren't poker dens).

is about the long and short of it... I prefer live games, don't mind the casinos but want to set up or get into some home games... as I said above I don't really trust online algorithms but I do play some free higher stakes for marginal practice the play is much different though but at least at the higher stakes you get folks being a little more careful with their chips than you do at the lower tables.

Few things make my eyes glaze over faster than someone trying to teach me what a "book" is. IDGAF, spades looks like it sucks.

Poker sucks too if you aren't a gambler (I'm not).

and the money is more along the lines of an entertainment budget but ok fair enough it is for gamblers.

I grew up on Poker, Gin Rummy, Crib, Yahtzee, Chess and Go..

never figured out Spades or Hearts or Bridge.

I really grew up on DnD but that's a whole other thing.

Four people sitting way off to the side, or at some little table in the basement. All hype about some cards. They be playing for what seems like hours, too. I don't get going to a house party or someone's cookout to do that. People that play spades ain't trying to talk about shit other than the spades game that they are playing, too. Shit is like four dudes huddled around an xbox at a social event.

Not sure if folks get together or not for the purpose of just playing spades.

Bar near me has free to play Hold Em games once a week for a $30, $20, $10 bar tab for the top 3. I go fairly regularly, used to watch WSOP events on ESPN2 back in the day and the kinda got me into it.

Considering getting into some cash games around the city now that I have a better handle on the betting. I've always gotten the strategy with cards but working on my betting.

Yeah and they have $4 pitchers and $3 tacos that day so it's a good deal either way. A good mix of folks usually show up, I have fun.

These days more often casinos than Home. Can’t play online anymore of course. At home I like mixed games. Casino is hold em becaus it’s easier and cheaper. My limits wouldn’t be more than a 2/5 NLHE game in a casino, but also Vegas brings action and if you play ABC poker you’ll win. It’s just more boring than a mixed game or dealers choice.

I play 1/3 NL gets expensive enough at times... do online higher stake for free practice although it is still skewed with folks not respecting their stacks... haven't tried Vegas but maybe one day after y'all get a reasonable political sitch down there again... and I hear you on the home game/dealers choice, I always enjoyed stud and grew up playing draw.

real--but relatively low stakes ($25-50 buy-in, winner takes pot)

>
>in home games or casinos or both?

just home games. tried casino once and couldn't handle it (yeah, admittedly could just be because i'm not that great)--but every table seems to have 1 or 2 of "that guy" that thinks he's on his way to WSOP (sunglasses, backwards hat of some online poker co., earbuds, eager to only speak in the lingo.."yeah, i knew he had the nuts", "oh, he pulled the doyle brunson!"--aka "look at me, i know more about this game than you"--yeah, i'd rather play home games with friends)

typically just hold 'em

I might look you up if I'm ever in town see if you can get me in a game so I can give you guys my money(or not lol)

I need to find some home games or start but one most folks I know out here (vancouver) do the casinos regularly and haven't expressed an interest in a lower stake home game tho.

but the analytical mind from chess would/does serve well... and there's a certain amount of the bait and switch psychology that comes into play.
