"How much did you love Dukes of Hazzard?"

As a kid that was my show!!!!! I loved all the characters from the theme song to the car and the sound the horn made.

As an adult I look back on it and I am repulsed at how racist it was. The car was called General Lee with a conferate flag on the top. and the horn played Dixie!!! and I dont ever remember there being a black person on the show...

I cant even beleive the show was on TV. Could this ever happen again?

You take the blue pill, the story ends. You wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill, you stay in Wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.

The cake was the General Lee.

Remember when McD's had a Dukes Happy Meal where the food came in a plastic General Lee? Lol http://dukescollector.blogspot.com/2017/04/the-complete-mcdonalds-dukes-of-hazzard.html?m=1

Anyway I was all about that show. My mother hated it. Looking back I think I had a crush on them Duke boys.

fuck you.

damn. the balladeer had quotes for days.

"Well, the hen-house is empty. The fox is lickin' off chicken feathers and the Duke's goose is about to be cooked. "

"This is Bo Duke and Luke Duke. They're cousins. They fight the system. "

"Talk about bad timin'. If it was rainin' soup, old Cooter's bowl would be upside down. "

"Can make some male appendages harder than Chinese arithmetic. "

Lol

Mine had the little spin out lever on it. I was a beast on that thing. You couldn't tell me shit! I lived on a street that had a hill and my house was at the bottom of the hill. I'd ride down all fast as hell and then spin out at the bottom right in front of the house. I tried to spin it just right so I could run up the driveway from the big wheel with smooth motion. Like a cop chasing someone who ran into the house.

fuck you.

to be diverse and none of the overt Confederate stuff. Sort of like Nashville (which I've only ever seen a few episodes of, so I might be off-base there).

This was after watching for years tho. My parents, aunts & uncles were always dropping real comments as a kid. I think there was a chase scene on the show once, and for some reason all I saw was that car w/ the confederate flag driving down some dusty road and sandy brown hair. I immediately thought "lynching" and that was a wrap for that show and I.

Same with a lot of older shows, TBH. I used to watch Andy Griffith (because of my mom), and one day I realized that the jokey-ass cops would NOT be jokey with me if I came to Mayberry.

where he (and Flash) went to the big city and got in trouble for crashing cars over and over.

I remember being very confused about how the Dukes, who were constantly broke, could afford dynamite to tie to their arrows as they leaned out of the General to shoot at the cops chasing them, and not get in trouble for doing that either.

Fun reading about the Friday night lineup. All in all, I probably remember more scenes from the Hulk. That one where Dr Banner finds the guy who had Hulked himself up, I think in a failed attempt to fight cancer, freaked me out and stuck with me. Also, 'you wouldn't like me when I'm angry' has been broken out many times with the kids...

I remember that Hulk episode. I still watch the old Incredible Hulk reruns (when my homey has them on over his crib).

I can't believe my mom and grandparents let me watch that shit. I remember getting all excited at the general lee replica that used to show up at our small town parades.

crazy to think that back then shit was so limited that by-appointment TV right at 9 was the only way to hear/see the intro. the show was kind of corny but in the moment it was fun.

moms would even watch dukes with me and my brother... and then head off to bed when "serious" knight rider came on. haha

i seem to remember airwolf or street hawk being rotated in to that lineup at some point too.

Looking back, of course the confederate flag was problematic, but I don't remember the show being overtly racist other than that. In any event, as 6, 7, 8, year old, I didn't know or care about all that. I just liked watching the General Lee jump in the air the Duke boys blowing stuff up.

But early 80s television on Fridays and Saturdays was awesome.

Dukes
Hulk
Knight Rider
A-Team

Couldn't beat that lineup.

and got the Dukes of Hazzard 'Barn Buster' for Christmas. It was a wind-up car that rolled up a ramp through toy barn doors with barrels in front. It played like a scene from the show.

Loved the show but when I look back now I just shake my head.

the theme song and general themes of the show, but don't recall it every being on in my house - including my parents and 2 older brothers - watched it nor talked about it. We watched our fair share of TV too, but that show never got play. I'm 35 so I'm guessing the show was still going strong in the late 80s through early 90s. The only 'older' sitcoms I remember watching with any (somewhat)regularity were:

Three's Company
Jefferson's
Different Strokes
Magnum PI
Murder She Wrote
Matlock
Dark Shadows
I Dream of Jeanie
Flintstones/Jetsons
Bewitched
3 Stooges

at the time I had no idea about the whole rebel flag & general lee thing... I'm Canadian we didn't get that education we got the 1812 54-40 or fight doctrine instead.

I loved that signed pic of Enos... kept it right along with my star wars fan club headshots of Han and Leia and my club card... don't have any of that anymore.

that show had folks digging it in the hood and the car was acceptable in that day and time sad to say.

Enos was a cornball and yet it worked on Daisy Duke. when they brought coy and vance in that was lights out for the show.

the Duke Boys got love because these two white boys were always running from the law.

for the record two Black sightings Roger E Mosley
and also Uncle Phil did a episode.
