"the independent and strong black woman...."

whadda men think when they read/hear it?

The reason I ask? I'm giving online dating a shot. While setting up my profile one of question ask that you say a little about yourself...of course, I got stuck. my friends and I got into a discussion about it. I didn't wanna describe myself as such because "I" associated with something negative. They didn't....

It's not something I wanna announce to the world. i need something softer but I don't know how to word it. I might have to take the day off work to write it lol

You get that?

Keep in mind this was a discussion I had with my bffs who were in town visiting....

the conversation started when one of our guy friends brought over his lady. when she was asked how they met, she said it was off christian mingle. We laughed because he doesn't believe in God. They've been going 5 months. As the weekend went on and several discussions of me being single they said I should try it...not Christian mingle, but online dating in general. This is how it started...

Again, I was stuck at providing a description of myself. I think my friends response was based on how they view me. Personally, it's not something I'd share off the cuff. Yet, it got me to thinking...I don't want to be viewed as that. But, I was afraid of telling my friends that I'm weaker than they think. However, I did share with them that I do need a man; however, I'm not bent out of shape about not having one. I have a desire of love that is pure.

I wanna describe myself as submissive without having to explain what it means. Funny thing, while at dinner I ordered a drink called, "well-mannered dirty martini". I said to my friend, "now this describes me", lol

definitely an icebreaker and gives insight that you at least have creativity/sense of humor... as far as the submissive stuff...you're Gen X...Just say that you're 'traditional' or 'old fashioned' as it relates to courtship...most (rational and eligible) Gen X-ers in the real world know

Putting a wall up = Feeling like you're always in control = Keeping yourself from getting too emotionally attached = I need to be able to cut ties with you without becoming an emotional wreck

And that type of person is disloyal, because they are looking for a reason to abandon ship.

Strong Independent reads as I am a stone. I am looking for someone who can work to try to crack open to find my heart.

Sounds like a lot of work and somoene who has had a rough life and wants love but really online looking for a puzzle piece to fit the narrative she's written for herself.

A feminine woman doesn't need to advertise strength.

A protected and secure woman doesn't need to advertise independence.

Don't use that language. But not for the reasons these clowns would have you believe. Don't use it because It's ridiculously corny and trite. If I attract a guy talking about myself that way, then I deserve what I get. LOL.

your strong so you know what you want and probably won't compromise
your independent so you are self sufficient on all matters of you
why the fuck are you on a dating site if these two things are true?

>whadda men think when they read/hear it?

That this is a person who is difficult to deal
with and is either dishonest or deluded.
I'll explain that below.

>my friends and
>I got into a discussion about it. I didn't wanna describe
>myself as such because "I" associated with something negative.
>They didn't....

Classic example of "don't listen to your friends" lol

>i need
>something softer but I don't know how to word it.

My friendly suggestion is to type out what you mean
when you say "strong" and what you mean when you say
"independent." That in itself might be problematic
or it might not, because alotta times women mean
"aggressive" or something that doesn't necessarily
mean strength. And I don't know many people in
relationships who don't want to be able to depend
on their partner in some regard, so "independent"
just seems dishonest and not conducive to being in
a relationship. Plus, no one is independent anyway
unless you own a farm, produce your own electricity,
built your house and car, etc. That might be too
"out there" for some, but it's true lol.

In response to Reply # 0

These replies ALREADY hilarious yet extremely accurate!

But yeah, if a girl has to SAY dat shit then shes NOT dat shit.

Its merely a coping-mechanismic projection for something that is inherently undesireable about said girl.

Shit is sad to watch.

with a false sense of pride.

Nobody is independent unless you out here extracting resources out the ground manning your own factory and distributing products you are a worker, no other community has one gender running around talking about being independent.

plus it would strike me as weird that an independent woman is online dating.

Not that they can't, but it sounds ironic.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

problem is that public, in-person encounters are dying too!

i'd leave out the "strong/independent" stuff. it's 2017. we get it.

putting it in translates into "i irrationally blow men off and don't get em the time of day"...

That's something that women , say, 35 - 55 feel the need to say.

I think its just assumed by younger women now and the big statements are the ones that wanna be "sugar babies" andtaken care of.
