If you're comfortable in your own skin this isn't even a question. If you're desperate to live life in a way that maximizes the approval you'll receive from others, my guess is your social and professional circle would be the best jury for deciding whether or not you're "allowed" to get a tattoo at your age.

acknowledge that getting that neck tattoo at 40 might affect your office job.

Let's be real, who lives in such a vacuum that the opinions of others don't affect their life at ALL???

At everyone.

Deep-seated issues exemplifies a self-appointed message board behavior cop who makes passive aggressive posts on a weekly basis down-talking the board he frequents, to say nothing of the myriad board beef posts you've had where you've created entirely new posts to passive-aggressively add to the nonsense created in other posts.

You're a hall monitor who stays running in the halls and doesn't like it when people start commenting on your behavior.

>acknowledge that getting that neck tattoo at 40 might affect

Was that the question?

Because it was a general question presented in general terms, so you breaking out a very specific scenario with a completely obvious answer is misplaced.

If you're 40 and a professional musician, have at the neck tat.

If you're 40 in a cubicle and have to ask this question regarding a NECK TATTOO, you're a moron.

Neither scenario really warrants an inquiry as to whether or not others deem it socially acceptable because both have crystal clear answers.

If you're 40 and need to know the "cutoff age" for a tattoo, in general terms- you're probably insecure and want validation from others regarding your personal choices.

>Let's be real, who lives in such a vacuum that the opinions of
>others don't affect their life at ALL???

Please describe a scenario where the opinions of others matter in the slightest regarding whether or not it's cool for an adult to get a tattoo, aside from clear and obvious conclusions you should be able to form without a consultation based on what sort of tattoo you want and where you want it based on how that could affect your professional/social life.

I can't think of a single scenario for any reasonable secure adult with a brain functioning well enough to self-regulate the urge to get a skull on your throat if you're a career kindergarten teacher.

which shows the absolute statement doesn't work.

You know the absolute statement doesn't work so you have revised the statement/rule with a "clear and obvious" caveat that makes the statement a lot less absolute.

If you started off with where you landed on this, I wouldn't have chimed in.

As asked.

>which shows the absolute statement doesn't work.

No, the absolute statement works perfectly fine as a response to the question as asked.

>You know the absolute statement doesn't work so you have
>revised the statement/rule with a "clear and obvious" caveat
>that makes the statement a lot less absolute.

You know the statement was a response to the question as posed and not under the specific scenario you created to justify your need to correct something that didn't need to be corrected.

>If you started off with where you landed on this, I wouldn't
>have chimed in.

No, you chimed in because you thought you had a softball "gotcha!" home run. If you had any sense you wouldn't have chimed in.

Now run along and correct something else that doesn't need correcting elsewhere. I'm sure there's someone somewhere wearing a hat while standing under a roof that requires your immediate attention.

and have no problem from their employers. some employers don't care at all. some employees wear clothing that covers their tattoos. and on and on. (recall our own janey who is tattooed and pierced from her rooter to her tooter - she works as a legal secretary (aka doing lawyer work b/c her employer knows she's a lawyer...LOL) and she didn't lose her job over that).

'office job' is too broad a category for your statement to work.

my kid's names are Arabic, so I'll get them done in the native langauge. that way it won't look everyone else's tattoos.

I have one other small ass tat on my arm. wish I could figure out how to make it more substantial.

the one I had wasn't very painful. I'm sure it depends on where you get the tat and how intricate it is.
