"PSA: when walking on the sidewalk, corridor or stairwell..."

try to adhere to the basic rules of the road... walk on the right side.. go single file when folks approach from the other end etc... seriously to do otherwise is rude AF.

SMH @ people who can't even walk correctly with some basic decency and consideration.. some day you gonna get yourself run over if not stomped on... no matter how pretty you think you are... not saying I'll be the one but trust me it'll happen if you keep messin up you asshats.

and you can tell bad drivers by how they push their carts at the supermarket.

i spent 40 minutes in costco parking lot bc people were stopped in the middle of the road, cars stopped diagonally etc...it was ridiculous. Inside the costco was the same way with shopping carts. Made no sense.

I never went back to the costco in the neighborhood again.

It's the browsing and the free samples.

Read somewhere that Costco is structured to encourage this to make people buy more.

I wonder for folks in other countries that drive on the left if that influences how they walk in the sidewalk/stairs as well. Not saying this post is without merit because folks that aren't considerate in those situations is a pet peeve of mine, but just something to factor into things.

that said one should really be able to adjust to the apparent flow of things without too much difficulty... walking shoulder to shoulder on the sidewalk and forcing folks coming from the opposite direction onto the road or grass just shouldn't happen.. stairwells are the worst tho as folks round corners and smack into each other just because they don't like the outside lane.. acting like it's F1 or indy and you gotta cut every corner tight is BS imo...

They moved a bunch of Brits over to my department (in CA), When they first moved to the States, they walked on the left side of the hallway. They eventually changed and now walk on the right side. They also eventually stopped including that extra "u" in words like color and favor.

So that means Americans are committing the same sidewalk transgressions when we are tourists in European countries that drive on the left then, right? Although I have to imagine it wouldn't take too long to get acclimated to walking on the left if the majority of folks are doing in.

a bare minimal of outings... I'm just glad that when the gravy train ended I have been able to negotiate half time in the office half time at home.. and ultimately it's healthier this way I was getting a bit squirrely... but I hope to get back there someday... cause I want to move somewhere more remote but I need to make a living.

living with others is a challenge I'm lucky that I found Shimmy tho because she's one person that doesn't drive me crazy and can put up with my wack ass crap pretty well.

but when my folks come visit or friends I end up hitting my walls of tolerance in fairly short order.

as for meeting and interviews I don't do video conferences if I can help it. I stick to telephone bridges and the occasional screen share.

Especially with the driving analogy. Oh you just gonna walk thru that doorway without looking up from your phone? Do we just pull out into traffic blindfolded now ??

You just gonna stand in the middle of the sidewalk on your phone? That's like my uber pausing in the middle of the road waiting for GPS directions to update.

Iont like joggers either tho.. it's a park, people casually walking and playing and you wanna run through on some Olympic trial shit?

Go to a track or calm the fuck down.

if you speeding through on some shit the onus is on you to be considerate and avoid others not the other way around.. the exception is when there's a bike path and a walking path and folks are walking all over the bike path that's an invitation to get hit imo .. just like you don't walk down the middle of the street.

all this stuff is just common sense.. people are lacking.

Out-of-shape people waddling in a big pack on the jogging/biking trail. Moving slow-as-fuck, all wheezing & shit. Same folks that throw all sorts of food trash (of course) all over the ground at the park, and play music out their speakerphone. They could've did that dumb shit in the hood.

Edit: I'm talking specifically about parks with trails.

Mentioned this here plenty of times that I don't play those passive-aggressive power games. Either they can move over or get bumped, hard (caught a few dudes last week). I don't bump women tho, I dead stop and look at them like they are being jerks for trying to run me over. I get apologies most of the time from both groups. They know what they are doing, man.

i don't yield for someone else's self-entitlement anymore if they're being EGREGIOUS with it.

i've done the ultimate warrior shoulder block off the ropes to a couple of chicks over the last year actually. they ain't like it, but they ain't really say nothing back either.

problem's compounded nowadays 'cause of people buried in phones and not paying attention. i ain't yielding to you if you ain't paying attention/expecting me to be the one moving.

some ny times writer wrote a piece about the (racist) power play beckys be doing on sidewalks versus male POC's, and subsequently took mad shit for it.

That's a pretty dangerous game to play in terms of bumping into people intentionally in public, but you are a grown adult free to make your own choices in life.

Do you know anything else about the article so I can search for it myself and read it?

no no no no no (c) shia

i didn't mean intentionally. i meant a situation where someone's coming out at you and being a dick about it. i) you try the whole mutual courtesy of turning the torso to slide by, but they just stay in the dead center in the middle. or ii) two people walking in tandem and coming towards you, and the space isn't enough wide enough for the three of you, yet neither of them steps behind the other temporarily.

Pretty cool for the editor at the Times for allowing that article to makes it to the press. I wonder if things improved or devolved for that author; I think I have my answer based on the flack he caught on social media though.

That's the passive-aggressiveness I was talking about, and why I assume that EVERYONE does what they do intentionally. I've seen entitled-looking folks look right at me, then look down at their phone and proceed to walk into my path. They are banking on not being called out on that bullshit.

Just start saying "You have to let the people off the train FIRST" and walk off.

I have the same issue with the elevator in my building. Always some older lady with that entitled suburban look (complete with RBF) trying to walk through people onto the elevator.

The reason I stop is I know damn well many would IMMEDIATELY play the victim and start crying or acting outraged that I 'ran them over' and of course I'd lose because I'm a big black guy. Instead, I take away EVERY passive-aggressive avenue they have. If they want to be a douche to me, they have to be an aggressive douche (and thereby taking away their ability to play the victim).

Passive-aggressive people like to hide behind plausible denial of their actions. Take that away (plausible deniability) and they have nothing.

My line stays the same, while they have to walk around me.

And I already noticed them as they were approaching--when their group was taking up the entire sidewalk.

I walk through a door, look back and see someone staring down at their phone... lol @ them thinking I'm gonna hold the door for them. I get schadenfreude when I see the look of surprise on their faces. Same with people that don't make eye contact with me, I'm not holding the door.

I don't try, but sometimes I kinda want to see people that do this trip and drop their phones: https://www.thestar.com/content/dam/thestar/news/gta/2013/09/13/distracted_walking_wexters_fall_stride_and_blunder_into_youtube_videos_and_mortal_danger/distracted_walker.jpg.size.custom.crop.1086x719.jpg
