shouldn't there be way to manipulate it?

would one have to know the source code?

what is the source code?

yeah, it's one of THOSE days for me.

>shouldn't there be way to manipulate it?

that would be like asking if a rat can alter a maze they are forced to run through in a lab

if this is a simulation...we as a species are nowhere near to understand how to manipulate something of that magnitude
q

>would one have to know the source code?

considering the program is so infinite...it have a single source code would be impossible...therefore you would have to manipulate infinitely different types of code controlled by different entities at the same time

have created this simulation are on an entirely different plane of both existence and intelligence. Neil deGrasse Tyson has talked about this gap in intelligence, relating it to us being only 1% different in DNA from our closest relatives - chimpanzees. All of human advancement and knowledge is contained in that 1% difference from chimps. So how advanced would a civilization be which is 1% different from us the other way? Then, what if they were 50% more advanced?

All of our most complicated technology and civilization wouldn't even be considered intelligent life to them. If they decided to create an infinite simulated universe, just for their entertainment, everything that has ever happened in our human history to them would be nothing more than watching an ant farm. We definitely would have zero understanding of any of the code required to create this level of simulation.

If it's a simulation....then the one and only thing that you can know FOR SURE is that you PERCEIVE reality to be such a way. Even if your current perception of sitting at a desk is a simulation....you still THINK that you are sitting at a desk. This is the basis of the phrase 'I think therefor I am'. You can only know for sure what you THINK about or how your perceive reality...not reality itself. And since you have proof that you think or perceive SOMETHING (even if it's not 'real reality')....you must EXIST!

but isnt that making the presumption that this 'you' who thinks this or that about reality is in fact really even you? What if the thoughts and perceptions that this 'you' has aint really even something innate to your 'youness'?

this ain't a serious post by the way.

I was just pontificating.

waxing philosophically n whatnot lol

even if you are mistaken as to who 'you' are....you still are perceiving something (even though incorrect or inaccurate). Descartes did a thought experiment called 'critical doubt' where he discarded everything that he could not prove without a shadow of doubt. He used a couple motifs to do it....most famously...that his brain was floating in space in a vat hooked up to a machine that made him THINK he was on earth in his study (ie The Matrix). What is logically undeniable is that he THINKS he's in his study. *because he can't prove he actually IS in his study. And from this singular truth he can prove that he exists...whether his perception of reality is reliable or not.

what if this is just a game or holding area for humans or not just humans but some sentient beings?

and if thats the case

what if most people who enter the game are lulled into a sense of safety and choose to play by the rules

but then

what if the people who go on insane ragers, act a fool, become deeply evil, live fast & die young, rock star that shit, etc are beings who entered the game but for whatever reason are having a bit of "fun" with the system

like, playing an open world role playing video game. Most people play by the rules and try to figure out the game and achieve goals, but then there are some people who decide to act a fool and go kill everything just because

in a lot of ways it doesn't necessarily hold up and a lot of it is style over substance now but there are so many iconic moments in that style, and every time Morpheus, the Oracle or Agent Smith speak your eyes glue to the screen.

I saw that movie more times in theaters than any movie ever (I was in middle school when it came out, so it was my Star Wars basically) so I look at it with rose tinted glasses but even I could tell it was a movie with a ton of big ideas without a big enough budget (which is part of its charm).

It's also wild to see such an unconfident, hesitant Keanu for so much of the movie coming off both John Wicks as my last time with him lol.

I wonder if that movie hits as hard for kids nowadays as it did for me then, 'cause it's definitely a very '90s movie and a very Wachowskis movie with a tighter budget so they couldn't get as ridiculous as they did in the next two or their other movies.

Which is pretty incredible that it held up for so long because it was ahead of the time technologically

Now? It all feels like it was shot on a sound stage

Still one of my fave movies. A coworker was telling me her sons are old enough to start exposing them to old action movies and she has a list...this one is at the top of the list. I cant begin to even imagine how fun it would be to show that movie to someone whos never even heard of it or even have a concept of it.

is how little action there is in a lot of the action scenes. in some ways it's actually way more like a comic book than any comic book movie, the iconic lobby scene in particular plays out way more like comic book panels than any action sequence that's been done in the past decade or so. character does move, movie looks at other character doing move, movie looks back at other character striking pose, etc.
