I do these for a living (I'm a CRNA). It's completely natural to "wake up" during the procedure. The drugs we use (propopfol, versed,fentanyl) are mainly to relax you. We don't paralyze you for this. We don't (usually) Intubate you. We mainly just want to keep you calm while looking with the camera. The procedure shouldn't hurt. It's all good.

Didnt hurt at all even when he clipped off a polyp. Didnt expect to wake up with all the stories people told me though ("You fall fast asleep and wake up in a receiving room without even thinking you went in yet" etc etc).

Look..mine was smooth as fuck. I woke upduring the procedure. Beibg kt out to receicing I was awake already still and didnt need anything. I got dressed and after the nurse gave me some details I left. My reocvery was 10 minutes. When I frst got there and they did the IV and shit, others were being wheeled back knocked the fuck out still. RNs would wake them up etc. They must have thought "this negro used to this" about me getting u and leaving asap and being awake etc lol
I wsnt even thrsty but acquiesced for a small cup of water at the rns prodding

It was just routine. Now Im chillin like a villain.Had ahi poke (my new obsession), got some ice cream macarons, gonna smoke some, watch maher, get ready for 3 day weekend (see The Dark Tower etc).

re: your question as to waking up.... i woke up and just remember an an odd feeling of a tube poking the back of my stomach and them asking me to roll over/change positions. after that it was lights out again until the recovery room.
i'd previously had an upper endoscopy (i didn't wake up at all during that) so i already knew the drill --- both procedures and the way they manipulate levels of consciousness had me realizing that anesthesiologists are really fucking good at what they do.

Fuck yeah and makes me think of that Michael Jackson bullshit. Because like someone said up above, the best sleep (even though short) Ive ever had.

Having to drink a gallon liquid that tasted like stale baking soda and battery acid sucked. But it did power wash your insides (and make you dehydrated in the process)
As far as the procedure goes,. I remember the gas, counting back from 10, possibly making it to 4, then being in recovery. Having my nasal passage dried out from the oxygen was the worst part of that.

8 oz every 15 minutes this evening for an hour, same thing tomorrow morning the second round put me under probably because there was only liquid in my system everything coming out is black or clear now

yep I used to work at a endoscopy facility so i'd be in the room during colonoscopies and endoscopies and what I noticed is that south americans that would elect the light sedation (versed) because they would be deathly afraid of being put under with propofol (I noticed it was common with people from venezuela and colombians would go this route) and yeah we would hold conversations while they looked at their colon. as far as going under completely with the propofol, Some would wake up but for a few seconds then the anesthesiologist would push some more milky goodness - propofol and that solves it
I mean, congratulations on that accomplishment but umm, nah b.... we didn't need to know all that info.

I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in 1996 (freshman year of college). So I've had about 15 colonoscopies through the years. During my first or second one, I woke up in the middle of that shit. I didn't feel anything. I just remember looking at the monitor that was showing the video and asking my doctor what it was. He put me back under lol.

when I first started getting them, I had to drink like a gallon of this nasty ass shit.
Now, I just take these big ass salty pills (like 32 of them over a couple hours). I usually stay away from meat and heavy foods for like a week prior to the prep. Then about 3 days ahead of it, only consume water and light foods like soup and cooked veggies.
I actually enjoy being put to sleep during the process though. That's some good ass sleep right there!

Basically I was laying there on my side, watching my colon on the big screen. I was in a twilight state, so it wasn't uncomfortable. I just didn't actually lose consciousness until they were rolling me to recovery.
