Happy to hear but I don't think he's on board with the principles of socialized health care so I'm not ready to clap for this. He can't be counted on in the evolution of this issue.
His statement on Trans people in the military made yesterday:
“The President’s tweet this morning regarding transgender Americans in the military is yet another example of why major policy announcements should not be made via Twitter.
“The statement was unclear. The Department of Defense has already decided to allow currently-serving transgender individuals to stay in the military, and many are serving honorably today. Any American who meets current medical and readiness standards should be allowed to continue serving. There is no reason to force service members who are able to fight, train, and deploy to leave the military—regardless of their gender identity. We should all be guided by the principle that any American who wants to serve our country and is able to meet the standards should have the opportunity to do so—and should be treated as the patriots they are.
“The Department of Defense is currently conducting a study on the medical obligations it would incur, the impact on military readiness, and related questions associated with the accession of transgender individuals who are not currently serving in uniform and wish to join the military. I do not believe that any new policy decision is appropriate until that study is complete and thoroughly reviewed by the Secretary of Defense, our military leadership, and the Congress.
“The Senate Armed Services Committee will continue to follow closely and conduct oversight on the issue of transgender individuals serving in the military.”
He left himself an out and could have committed a little stronger but I'll clap for this. McCain's true legacy is staring him in the face in regards to Trump. He needs to seize the moment. He's been better than most....but it hsan't been enough. A true risk-taker maverick would be going balls out right now. I've always kinda liked McCain and he deserved to beat George W for Republican nominee in the 90s. But I've been frustrated with him since Trump's rise. I would have thought he'd be stronger and more principled. I would have thought he'd say to himself 'what have i got to lose' and just followed his gut.
To be honest...I can't tell if he's been cowardly or if I was just wrong about his gut.

If a dangerous drunk idiot gets on the road and nearly kills everyone, I don't have to give him credit when he only crashes into a tree, or only makes it home without killing everyone.
I say I never should've been in that situation and it was irresponsible of him to put others in that situation, and with absolute zero responsibility or ownership taken by that person that led to that situation, I have nothing to say.

I wonder what she was offered and threatened with. We know about the Trump tweets and him siccing the Interior department on her. And one senator was caught on a hot mic suggesting physical violence on her. But you know there had to be a lot more going on behind the scenes.
There were like 6 senators surrounding her like a pack of wolves last night just before the vote.
