I think a project like that should only be helmed by a black person and even then every misstep is still going to cause a lot of outrage.
Maybe a book series that if it does well, get's made into a series. But out the box TV Series which such a topic just because they pulled off Game of Thrones? Nahh.

Not like black folks are the target audience for GOT in the first place and best believe there wouldn't be a single black person in that series if the studio could have had it their way
It's about a black dude forced (the old exploding device in the body trick) to go undercover hunting freed slaves in the north; he did a great job portraying the south as a shit dystopian forbidden place and most importantly threw in some good critiques at northern liberal racism.
Im in a bookclub with a couple of woke black teachers and I threw it at em to make sure it wasn't time to call the drop ships on me and they thought it was well written too...however...
It's alot easier to cover your ass in a novel since you have access to everyone's thoughts and risky scenes can be literally explained away within the text...not sure if GOT has EVER had that kind of subtlety.

Arguably Deckard in Blade Runner was learning to have empathy for the androids and it starts off just like a regular job (and only towards the end one would argue started to question his place in the system).
The book starts off tackling the self loathing he main character feels for what he has to do and while he does run into other negros its really a story about fucked white people and society at large which is why I was surprised the writer was white. He doesn't nail it 100%, but he damn well gets between 90-95% right so I gotta assume he got black people (or a black editor) to help him out with it.

teaching the civil war is a chore because there's so much b.s. around this idea of it being a fulcrum in american history. kids don't learn enough about the context before/leading up to/reconstruction/after.
i do think a show like this done well helps with eroding that mythos. the conflict started long before the war and hasn't ended.
but then i feel like maybe, especially in 2017, people do need to believe in the power of moments like the emancipation proclamation, or juneteenth, or brown v board, or loving, or the civil rights act.
we do need a generation of young people right now who believe that phase changes in regards to race relations are possible.

In a long view historical perspective, it's obvious that segregation, the civil rights movement, Barack Obama and Donald Trump and everything in-between are all a part of the larger story of the transition from a slave nation to a not slave nation.
