"Who is the Creative Director of Jayonce Inc. (or is it Bee Z Inc.?)" Wed Jul-19-17 10:10 AM by Buddy_Gilapagos
Is it Solange? Seems like Beyonce hanging out in NOLA with little sister might be behind all that NOLA imagery in her videos.
Melina Matsoukas (Director of Lemonade Videos)?
NO ID? 15 still in the ear?
Am I fcuked up for thinking there is some other influence beyond Jay-Z and Beyonce who is behind the African-American Studies Symbols popping up in the videos and music?
Even if it's opportunism on their part don't you think you need some guidance to transition from Bootylicious and Big Pimpin to Nina Simone and Toni Morrsion Imagery?
I remember Chris Rock saying it took hanging out with Nelson George before he was exposed to any sort of Black Intellectualism.
I wonder if Beyonce and Jay-Z had a similar experience or guide?

Weird.
I think age is the answer tho. It reminds me of Janet Jackson and Control. You get an age where you want to do more than just sing what they give you.

They're from Houston. Mom's family is from Louisiana. N.O. exposure is not unusual given that. Just being in N.O. could've exposed them to all manner of blessed Blackness.
I was exposed via my mom. She got it from college but she was seeking it b4 college. Either of these ladies could've been interested in their own, of course. _______________________

Met Deray McKesson at a houseparty in 2015 and he said there's an office space in bk where bey's people were bringing BLM people to brainstorm how she could bring the radicalism into her public persona.
I think you're absolutely right that Melina Matsoukas is a big part of the black power visual palette of solange and beyonce.
Kaepernick's people reach out to a lot of the big names on black studies twitter.
I'm interested in how Jay got involved with the kalief browder documentary. He's definitely rubbing shoulders with rich new york liberals but I wonder if he's chopping it up with folks like Bryan Stevenson, Ta Nehisi Coates, and David Remnick or if it's one or two degrees of separation.

Kool G Rap made a song about it.
It's one thing when you choose 'the life'
but to have a dude who clearly wasn't built like that go thru that...
I think Jay did it cause he has a heart. It's often said that the rap dudes who claim street life were usually on the fringes of the activity; which is not to doubt Hov's "realness" but clearly he can afford to show a softer side than many of his peers...

Beyonce runs her own company for creative direction... she has managers, videographers, visual artists, publicsts all on staff for Beyonce INC aka Parkwood Entertainment.
Jay has Roc Nation for the same purpose.. and lets not forget young Nuwaubian Jay-z
Solange benefits from relationships made during afro/punk boho Brooklyn gentrification era (Dev Hynes et al) and her husband handles most visuals..

sources for their output.
I mean I get their roles, but I am looking for their creative sources which has a very specific Af. Am Studies POV.
