"Boss wanted to hire me back for new season, crew leaders said nah "

I feel like I've been kicked in the gut, what the fuck do I do to people to make them deny me a full time job? You don't have to like me, but everyone hates me enough to fuck with my livelihood?

That's really hard to take. Last year; depression fucked with me hard and my work suffered but when the boss welcomed me back in the position I should have had from the start for this year I was relieved. Then he calls me days later to say the crew leaders voted and it sounded like it was unanimous... why interview and hire me only to have your crew vote and say fuck me, he doesn't deserve to eat?

I'm blown right now. The difference in how I felt yesterday compared to today is nuts, I feel terrible.

This position meant a lot to me and to have a group of people sit around and decide I don't deserve it is heartbreaking. How could I have offended everyone that much that they actively deny me this gig?

Cause it's the only thing you got control of. I hate seeing people put out of work and have to deal with that on the daily, but.....

....maybe it is something you did. For it to be a unanimous vote, you did something or made people feel like you did something for them to feel that way.

These ain't shots at you, but I deal with workplace disputes for a living and it's my job to give both people on both sides a reality check.

It's hard to accept that my mistakes have all the team leaders say they don't want to work with me, nothing was that huge if the boss wanted me back, righty?

Thanks though

Well in this situation, what's done is done.

But in the future I would just advise more introspection and concentrate on workplace relationships. It's amazing to me how people are sort of oblivious to how their actions affect other people.

Also, if your team leader was cool with you, I'd advise you to get a reference letter from dude ASAP.

And I was never invited. I felt some kind of way since then, this was way before the depression or any big mistakes that would give anyone a reason to be against me

So clearly it's just something about me that these people didn't like, before I even started giving them reasons

would it be possible to get feedback from the boss? do you have a good relationship with him?

maybe ask him what he thinks about your relationship with the rest of the crew. see if he can give you some insight on what you may have possibly missed.

...you're probably better off in the long run. I feel you on the BS tho. You start asking yourself "what did I do wrong?" but come up empty. The reality is sometimes that you're in an unwinnable (socially) situation. Unless you did something (and you'd know it, deep down) those folks just might not like you because they don't like you. Shit, I got folks at my job that won't speak or make eye contact with me after 4 years of seeing them everyday. You gotta remember that lot of these people with jobs are the same socially-awkward dorks that they were in high school. They didn't grow up, they just got older.

With all that, you gotta realize that you're dealing with these types of folks and learn how to put on a "game face" without selling out yourself.

Selling myself short is something I'm done with, right after I get ride of this nasty feeling of knowing people sat around and voted this gig away from me. It's time for me to go harder than ever because life can't stay like this

A few questions and please don't get offended. OKP's tend to be on some "leave me alone, don't talk to me" steez which might offend some in a team environment.

Do you go to work events? Chit chat with coworkers about dumb shit? Cause while folks say "as long as I do my work" but that's not really how it goes most times.

Are you a people person?

Last question. Did folks have to pick up your slack when you were going through it last year?

We have a coworker who's nickname is Eeyore. I pulled him aside one time like bruh, ain't no one trying to work with that type of energy, try to leave that shit at home.

Maybe the team leader was scared you might have another bout of depression once shit got hectic?

Ionno, that shit sucks. Good luck finding another gig

I would crack jokes and people did like me but that clearly changed. They never invited me to anyone's house for karaoke though

I can be. People like to talk to me.

I didn't make work for other people. There was maybe one day that may have broke the camels back when Trump was elected, I was on my phone more than I should have been but the months of good work I did before that should be counted more than that one day or few comments I made about not getting paid enough

Only one crew leader really knows I got depressed but I'm sure he told everyone else. Now I want to fuck with his life

I say maybe 3 because I don't know if the gay brother got that position but the other brother and mixed girl were the only black crew leaders, they was all in their 20s. There were about two 20s white dudes, a 20s white girl & transgender dude, the rest were older whites

I was late 20s last year, black man and it's still hard to believe all those people were against me
