"faith without works is dead..."

Today I finally went to church. I had three witnesses recommend the same place so I figured it was time. I haven't been to a Sunday church in years and nothing more than a hundred people.

This place one tho. I won't say I didn't like it but, there's was too much time for my mind to wonder. Like, I was looking around assessing people and stuff. How mega it was. I sat in the back. There was too much "fluff". I left wondering how can one truly get the word of God in a place so big. The sermon was brief. "pack light...don't care burdens" yet, didn't mention how or gave any examples from scriptures....wwjd? Lol

how do I leave a compelled to glorify God. I wasn't moved...

And although it's tough at times challenging old notions it's been far more rewarding than church sermons

Bible studies.

Sunday is the time for worshipping at big churches.

A small church can have a good feeling of being "on point" but it is very dependent on the personalities of the people at the small church. If those personalities aren't right, then it can be not good. Personalities don't matter as much in a big church because you can "distance" yourself from people easier in a big church.

I guess some people like "medium" size churches as a "midpoint" between too big and too small.

I don't agree with it tho. If your logic is true, isn't that more self serving?

There's an opportunity to inspire more people because Sunday is the biggest crowd.

Most do Sunday school

But worshipping is a whole different thing than teaching and on some days, a mega-church will give you the impression that worshipping will be the main thing that day, and you'll have to get more teaching on the following Sunday

In terms of my visits to Christian churches...it's never been more than 100 people. The place I visited today theres a few hundred. The fluff...is all the singing, announcements, offerings and stuff.

I believe direction is needed. . If that's not the case, why do we church...pastors. Now, I do believe it's the believers responsibility to do the work but, someone should be there to instruct you. Right?

Any big church has Bible classes during the week - esp. Wednesday.

Most have Sunday School before the worship service.

Some preachers do a lot of teaching during the sermon on Sundays, but learning mainly goes on in Sunday school, Wednesday Bible study, and the classes they have going all week.

teaching on Sunday service (besides the Sunday School classes before the service)

but...

a mega-church will expect people there to do "whatever it takes" to learn and not just what they get from the Sunday sermon.

Mega churches do seem to value worshipping because they know they have a lot of teaching going on during the week and Sunday school.

go to church on Sunday looking for direction and answers but a megachurch will not totally always "skimp" on the worship aspect in their Sunday services.

I'm not saying every Sunday sermon will be light on teaching and direction but I'm not surprised when a mega-church thinks it is really doing something when there's a lot of worshipping going on and not a lot of teaching. But not every Sunday will be like that.

Ok sounds kind of like my home church, I wouldn't consider it mega but it is one of the biggest s churches in town so I guess that's perspective. But all the " fluff" all part of worship and fellowship.

Yes direction is good but for me it's a combination of direction, study and following my heart. If A church isn't my style I can still fellowship, worship, learn and glorify God, unless there is something troubling about the church.

Just wondering because I went to this church when I really needed to hear the word and the pastor read off the minutes and loan status of the church and never gave a sermon.

I was furious.

I grew up in the church so I'm not pressed to spend al day Sunday in church but I expect to hear a good sermon when I go.

I prefer smaller churches too.

Elevations seems cultish to me. The marketing is on point but it feels like a fad.. you can wear jeans l, shorts and their cool t shirts to church so that's a plus.

Keep in mind Elevation has thousands of members. It's huge.

No snark but since you are all lives matter you might like it. I can't do church with mad white people tho. I need my preacher and my music Black.

I've never been religious, but I would have honestly respected it if not for all the "fluff." Especially the music. Literally some of the finest music that's ever been written was written for Christian services. And there we were with a cornball soft rock trio on the stage, slow songs with lyrics on the screen, and people with their hands in the air pretending to be emotionally moved.

It was actually kinda disturbing, and if anything it turned me off from religion even more.

the Uber driver I chatted with asked why I didn't like the singing...especially since the Bible is fully of hymns. I told him I didn't know. I think because it exposes emotions I fear others seeing. shouldn't matter, right?

If you liked this church (or any other in the future) ask about their small groups. It like an informal bible study that the members use to connect and get to know each other.

If you like the spot and they don't have any of these groups going on then propose it. This small environment gives you a chance to get the answers you're looking for.
