"Ancestry DOT com ad for 4th of July full of Black folk (Declaration Desc..."

descendant from the founding fondlers.

SMH.

As a native Philadelphian I'm not upset or even mad just laughing at the lack of nuance with this ad.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R1PMt8bnz34

The original signers and advocates of this paper did not have their captives in mind when plagiarizing this document.

A block away tho not a signer George Washington had a house full of enslaved folk.

Thomas Jefferson was a child molester thus a rapist.

Of the 56 signatures 41 were holders of captive Black/Africans folk.

I'm sure they were raping those women, men, boys and girls which gives you the descendants you see today.

But we love surface level stuff.

Happy 4th of July

What do you say.

b/c the words they wrote have been interpreted by SCOTUS to include all of us.

so while i know who those ppl were to me it doesn't mean much. b/c NOW we have the ability press the government into putting those words into action. and of course, we've done that but we're not done.

the Constitution contemplates creating a 'more perfect union'. that right there says to me that the work of perfecting this joint will be ongoing. there will probably never be a day when we can roll the credits on the union's perfection. we'll always be out there forcing them to get it right. the Constitution and court interpretations of it are the tools.

but all of that aside - there's no reason to shit on Independence Day, really. most of us don't spend any part of the day in reverence for the nation or its history or any of that jazz. for most of us it's a day off from work and a cookout/picnic w/barbecue and (likely illegal) fireworks. there's no reason to get all college sophomore about the shit.

fuck you.

so the precedent set by Supreme Court justice Taney concerning the citizenship of so called Blacks(african americans) means what?

Especially when you see the legalization of murdering Black folks by law enforcement.

if the 14th amendment was valid?

And lets not even get into the 13th amendment....

Point being all signs show Black folk are not to full citizen of the US or USA.

Like Brown v Board that turned on the Court's interpretation of the 14th. That's also where the Court found support for Oberfell which forces states to issue marriage licenses to us gays. It's the basic foundation of all civil rights law. Congress went even further and put the law in statute form via various Civil Rights Acts - most famously 1964 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civil_Rights_Act_of_1964).

We can be cute about not being full citizens and I get that but I have a valid US passport. Not a Green Card. I'm not undocumented. I'm a citizen of the USA. Bc I was born here and my parents were citizens. Basic shit.

fuck you.
