Any suggestions? Everything I'm reading says use a fan. But if there's no power. Then....

If it's on the sidewalk and you didn't steal it then it's fair use.

Not about your question. Seems like folks turned the A/Cs on as soon as it hit 75f outside.

My answer to the question is always "drink a lot of water, find some shade and get used to being hot and sweating" but that's not a real popular answer.

I love the heat tho. I'm tall & lanky and basically built like a giant radiator.

My counter point was that we're experiencing historically extreme temperatures. People would've died just the same as before ac with this.
Add onto the fact that housing is manufactured differently than before with less ventilation and the amount of exhausts put into the air is stifling
The human body isn't cut to surviv this without help.

and keep your windows open after dusk to circulate cold air. Like, heavy-duty blackout curtains during the day though.

Get a microfiber towel (or just grab an old t-shirt), soak it, and drape it on the back of your neck.

It was rough
But we some G's so.... we did it.

This was after the big hurricane or duracio in 2012 that left most of the DMV without power for a week. Hotels that had power were booked up. She was in no condition for us to hit the highway looking for a hotel. So we hunkered down in the basement. Underground temps usually hover between upper 60's and lower 70's. It was still hot...but better than the main level of the house.

"According to the Agency for Health care Research and Quality, about 6,200 Americans are hospitalized each summer due to excessive heat, and those at highest risk are poor, uninsured or elderly."

1)Cold water to cool you (pool, or jsut on cloth)
2)Drink to avoid deydration
3)Go into the basement (heat rises)
4)Block sunlight into house with drapes, or the odl Aluminum foil on the glass.
5)If you have a car with air condition - go sit in it when possible.
6)Don't drink alcohol.
7)Stay away from blacktops, roofs, meatal/etc. (Or go to grassly area with trees and shade.)

Move to someplace where you won't die because of weather. San Diego rarely gets this hot, and when it does we can head for the ocean and jump in.

Many don't even have a week or two of food in their residences, don't know to store water BEFORE shit hits the fan, don't basic first-aid supplies, depend too much on driving and shopping, etc.

Buy a bunch of bottled water and drink it. Head to a grocery store that allows you refill your huge water bottle. Refill it for $20.
