Feels like Rich Harrison's samples for Crazy in Love and 1 Thing is about all I know about go-go, lol
I know there are plenty DC heads on here, what are THEE mandatory go-go songs / bands to check for? Anything from the classics to obscure rarities, I need to get into this genre some mo'

Then get into Junkyard Band (Maybe this before Rare Essence) then some Northeast Groovers, then some Backyard Band, then wind around to some Huckabucks for a real quick minute, then try on some Proper Utensils, then maybe swing around to some UCB....
just hit up the youtube with all those and you'll eventually have a full buffet of gogo to choose from...

It's truly one of if not THE last genre of untouched, unfiltered, unappropriated Black music. I rue the day that Go Go goes mainstream honestly... I like the space it sits in. It's hyper local, hyper groove based, hyper evolving but staying true to it's essence....
There are SO many groups that have come and gone and made their mark that I couldn't even begin to scratch the surface... I'm sure more of the locals could chime in.
I first discovered Go Go in the 80's when my OG cousin came down to NC to visit and had Sardines playing in his whip. My young mind was blown and I was hooked. At that time my world was Hip Hop and I thought that was all there was.

That shit goes hard in the club tho
