He's also one of the best storytellers of our time. A modern day spoken word Mark Twain. Life is complicated. In 50 years...his storytelling will outlive his transgressions as it probably should. A couple months ago I set up a crappy old record player with a built-in speaker in his room. We light a couple candles and listened to Cosby's stand-up records to start out his sleeping. We just stared at the ceiling listening to the stories cracking up together. I would NEVER do this with a Richard Pryor record. As it turns out...seems like despite his own faults...Pryor was a much more virtuous person than Cosby. Does that mean me and my son should listen to 'supern///a?'
The point here...is that the art of a low-life only becomes negated when the low-life part of his life is part of the art. Cosby wasn't telling stories about drugging women and raping them. So those stories still work with my son and me giggling together. Jerry Lee Lewis doesn't sing about effing 13 year old girls in 'great balls of fire'. "have a funky good time' isn't about beating up your wife. I'll reword my original post and simply say it's possible for us to enjoy his comedy and his shows without them being ruined by his personal life which appears to be filled with drug-rapes.
If we're gonna throw all his work away and we want to be consistent...we'd need to thoroughly investigate the personal lives of every single writer, musician, politician, public speaker going back thousands of years. I'm not prepared to do that. I have no assurance that Shakespeare didn't rape people or that Copernicus wasn't abusive to his children and it's just not realistic to start setting that type of standard.
Except, of course, for Mel Gibson. Fuck that guy lol. j/k

clearly what Cosby did was inappropriate and criminal. Cosby has admitted under oath that he bought sedatives to use on young women he wanted to have sex with. he also settled w/Costrand, the complainant in this recent criminal case, to resolve her civil suit related to the allegations in the criminal complaint. she made a criminal complaint back when the event went down but prosecutors declined to bring a charge back then. but back to Coz - he gave the woman a sedative that he knew would knock her out and then he had sexual contact/relations/whatever when she couldn't consent. IMO that's rape. penis-in-vagina is not required. the key part is Coz giving the woman a sedative and THEN doing the do. unless she indicated she was down w/being knocked out and felt up/fucked...that's rape. and hell, even if she said she was down w/being knocked out and banged out...that's dicey stuff right there b/c what if she changes her mind AFTER she's been knocked out? i wouldn't do it and i wouldn't advise any one to do it.

tl;dr - assistant writer on TCS allegedly submitted an episode in the final season where Cliff drugs and rapes Rudy's 16 yr old friend - inspired in part by an allegation from a friend of his who says Bill had recently drugged and raped her. allegedly there was a table read that broke down over it and homie was escorted from the bldg and fired.

she left the show b/c she got pregnant and Coz didn't want that written into the show. i dunno if they discussed hiding the baby bump behind teddy bears and shit like they'd just done w/Phylicia Rashad (which Coz was NOT happy about, btw). i suspect that wasn't an option in part b/c Coz was upset that Bonet was preggers to begin with. oh...and plus she had made that Angel Heart movie which was a bit 'racy' for Denise Huxtable (of course, that wasn't Denise but still...). he kinda played the father figure role w/the Cosby Kids and Bonet was on that 'You ain't my REAL daddy' shit. i'm sure Coz wasn't having that. and so she got grounded.
now i dunno how much of this is the Coz Machine spin but maybe she also wasn't up to the task of carrying a show. we see she never did that again.

He doesn't really look right in the footage I've seen.
I had no idea that he's already admitted under oath of purchasing drugs for the purpose of sedating women to have sex. I mean....the 61 women making accusations is a smoking gun on it's own....but that declaration pretty much seals it.
