"When the CD is cheaper than the MP3s"

Ever notice you can often get the CD cheaper than the MP3s?

What sense does that make?

Now you gotta import the CD, convert it, add the cover, etc etc etc

CDs are a thing of the past now.

If you buy the cd it's cuz you gotta CD player. You might rip to MP3 as a second method of listening. But you ain't copping the cd just to convert as your primary mode of listening.

The shit you talking is like somebody buying a car so they can drive it to their bicycle and then bike it to the job. Mofos can have a car AND a bike but they ain't using it like that!

I think the phone is the primary mode of listening to music these days.

People prolly cop CD's for the artwork and physical aspect but I still think they are going to primarily listen to the digital form

Then I rip it and never really use the CD again. Also I still like having the physical booklet and artwork.

. . . the CD comes with a "complimentary" digital copy through their "AutoRip" promotion and the just the MP3 version of the same album is almost always the same price or more than the CD.

You can make albums for like $2 a CD (plus jewel case) including the art..

so making a profit on it is also easy

Or are home stereos a thing of the past and most people don't own them? I never understood the MP3/streaming preference unless home listening isn't something you do.

In response to Reply # 9

1. home stereo were mainly connected to turntables, then CD players, and of course, had a radio receiver built in to them - but supposedly people don't care for vinyl, CD's and the radio much anymore, so do millenials really care about a stereo system?

2. It would seem millenials would be more focused on having decent sound on home desktop computers, so then they would have - before streaming - been focused on MP3's playing on their home computers. But I heard that people aren't buying desktop computers that much anymore, though are probably buying desktop computers more than stereo systems(?)

So it seems that people may have had some use for MP3's for their laptops-that-are-connected-to-decent-speakers thing, but now streaming is so far ahead of mp3's it's not funny.

have to d/l the music and burn a cd to listen in the car. i do have a fm transmitter thing that works pretty good, but it's still easier to just throw the disc in. that is, of course, after i go to the trouble of burning it haha.

damn shame

i have maybe 2 CDs total.
MBDTF and Eardrum (which i never even opened)

i made the conversion early. I got an iPod in '04, and i didn't get a car until 2010. It had the cassette deck so i just used the adapter. I still have the hard drive with every MP3 i stole, perfectly tagged and organized

my receiver has bluetooth, so car hear the music though my shelf speakers and sub. I can stream from the play store catalog or mp3s that are actually on my phone.

really tho, listening at home isn't like it used to be. sitting down, reading through covers, credits, etc takes patience and time. both of which are limited for me nowadays.

Y'all buy those labels, I was born supreme

mind was blown when it was a 6 CD player.

I never use it but in order to play bluetooth the CD plays for a few seconds. Sometimes I let it bump since it's Mos in the player.

19. "Dying format"
In response to Reply # 0

At some point, they won't even make CD players anymore. It'll go the way of the 8 track and VHS. So I guess the pricing reflects demand. I also read that labels get more from MP3's than from CD's so them pricing the MP3 higher makes sense. Artist makes x amount and that hold's steady across formats but as there is less overhead to putting out an MP3 the label profits more. Also, most of the music buying public probably uses digital now so that's where the pricing politics will land.

I'm actually surprised by this post in 2017.

-Streaming
-Phones with increased storage/better music players & organizers
-Cloud storage
-Modern cars with USB ports or at worse AUX ports
-Bluetooth connectivity for home stereos and modern cars
-Ipods
-Bluetooth headphones

Why would anyone want to carry around CD's in the tech age? I have 15,000 (and growing) songs with me at all times if I choose. I have an Ipod classic (Which I bought 2 yrs ago), 2 Ipod touches and song storage on my phone if I want.

LMAO @ CD's in 2017. Either you're old and stubborn/afraid of tech/not tech savvy or not in a financial space to have some of the more modern toys if CD is your go to for listening.
