And I am not talking about the dumb/funny conversations we have which are the lifeblood of this place but the s'pose to be sophisticated academic knowledge dropping convos. There is jaw dropping dumb shit that is being said that IRL would only last 15 seconds because you'd be laughed out the room for saying but here go on and on and on...

It's not even about having differing opinions or disagreeing on things. There's just some dumb things said on the boards that get taken seriously.

Then linked a thread I had posted a few months before that, which I said anti intellectualism will be the final death knell of this site, that thread was deleted with no explanation.

I'd be lying if I said that it didn't hurt my feelings a bit. Not so much that thread got deleted. But that #thatsite has gone from a place of celebrated black minds (to a degree) to a place that openly questions flat earth, gravity, aliens and whatever conspiracy theory de jour.

That part bothers me. When I made the death knell thread I was greeted with "well this is the same place that folks were licking spit off the sidewalk" and while true, we laughed at that. We've laughed as a community at all of the ridiculous things. But as of late, the craziest ideas have taken root and it's become more and more embarrassing to be associated with it.

This site is an outlet for some and unfortunately a life dependency for others. Many folks in here perceive themselves as intellectual juggernauts walking among a field of below average critical thinkers. Then you have the accepted norms and the hive mind that tries to crush anything that irritates the collective agreement. The deeper issues rest within the expectation and the need for people to be accepted or to feel dominant over someone they perceive not to be their intellectual equal.

This site has never been the lauded think super tank that it opines ans dreams about. Sure, there have been people of great exception that have gone on to rise and shine above the norm, but that was never the claim to fame for this place. This place was famous for the shenanigans s and occasionally social issue that caught fire. It's famous for the crap talking and slick conversation that trained others to on how to spit that Fire SNARK when necessary. Sure, we learned a few thing along the way, shared a few ideas and lifted each other up when the skies were gray and created some cool friendships. But this place has never been more than what it is, and that's just a place to hang out and chill, talk crap, get info, and pass the dang time.

I'm ridiculously relieved. I feel like we've hit land after being lost at sea for the last 9 months.

The timing was right on the edge too.

All in all, the choice for her to leave her job and try out that clothing venture did a lot of good.

She got to stay home with the kids for a little over a year, which included our daughters first year of school. She basically got 15 months of bonding time. I can’t say this was necessary but it was certainly an overall net positive.

That company though, LuLaRoe?

Yeah they can kick rocks. I once listened to a conference call where the owner of the company addressed an issue of consultants getting lopsided orders. For example, you’re supposed to get a healthy mix of solids and prints in each order, however people- us included- were getting entire orders of one color. At one point we ordered 90 pieces of a special 4th Of July order and got 13 prints in the entire thing.
One woman got stuck with 33 pairs of gray leggings. Not only should she have gotten a mix of solids and prints, the solids should have also gotten a mix of colors.

So the response from the owner of the company was “hey, you have to understand, these are temp workers and they’re going to make mistakes. You have to be patient while they’re being trained. You own a business, get out there and sell, sell, sell! If you’re working hard it doesn’t matter what you have in stock, you’ll move it all!”.
So… instead of correcting their mistakes, they pass the buck.

We also came across “training” materials imploring their consultants- the vast majority of whom are women- not to be “miserable cows”. If you point fingers at anyone for your failures, even if it's at the company who screws up your order and can't even be reached to fix it after you spent $1500 on a box of holiday theme items that generally sale well and get far, far less than your expected mix of half & half? You're a miserable cow!

Basically anything that isn’t working is the fault of the consultant and any complaints got shut down. Can’t get ahold of corporate because they leave you on hold for hours (yes, hours, my longest call was an hour and forty-five or so) before the call magically ends?
Don’t dare complain about it. Don’t get email responses from corporate to fix the login link they changed out of nowhere? Don’t dare complain about that. You’re a miserable cow if you do.
Consultant support was minimal until it became nonexistent.

Now that sales are dying out because they cannibalized their own market by focusing more on onboarding than supporting their established consultants, people like us are holding fire sales. They updated their return policy so people started returning all of their inventory, but apparently they’re sending rejection notices to these people telling them their inventory was defective….. and they’re keeping the inventory.

So people spent money on product, returned it for a refund, and the refund is denied without returning the product. I just hope we get a decent check when the inevitable class action hits. If my wife weren't so non-confrontational I'd have gotten a lawyer 6 months ago.

They're playing that short game though and greed is driving them in the direction of getting that 3-5k a head signup fee en masse ahead of nurturing those of us who already signed up.

It is what it is. My main concern is that my wife had to deal with all these "trainings" that all but shit on everyone who wasn't killing it out the gate.

I knew it! I knew there was no way that Lularoe was making those consultants bank like that. It just seemed like a pyramid scheme to me.

I even thought about it on a small scale, but after hearing about all the stuff other consultants were saying I was like this is bogus.

Congrats on your wife getting the gig.

The issues I’ve experienced are more with a complete lack of accountability on their end. They tell you not to complain, not to whine, not to point fingers, but they go so far in stressing personal accountability of you/me/we as consultants that it effectively discourages people from holding them accountable for their own mistakes.

Supposedly they’ve corrected their communication issues but that came far too late for an awful lot of us. We’re not outliers in this.
It’s much more an issue of their policies and practices and the awful, cult-like way they go about training people to believe that the company itself has no bearing on the personal success or failure of the individual. It reminds me a lot of boilerplate GOP propaganda.

We were doing ok until the 4th Of July mishap. We spent a lot of money on inventory that stood little chance of getting a return since the point was to capitalize on the holiday prints. Since they couldn’t be reached to correct the issue AND essentially told everyone to suck it up and deal on the subject in that conference call, that set us back. Then they made changes to the system and the new login they issued to my wife didn’t work, and countless unanswered calls and emails later we got booted for inactivity.
Without those incidents I think we’d have been fine. My wife still would have bounced since sales isn’t her thing but we never saw it as a long term deal anyways.

I don’t want to sway anyone against it based on the product or even the business model itself, but rather on inept policies and the greed that ultimately oversaturated their own market. The current practice of basically stealing people’s inventory under the ruse of a supposedly friendlier/easier return policy though? Yeah that’s crook shit.

The downside is that it tends to alienate people like you, but it's Pied Piper status for the die hard crowd. Since their model works so well with the obsessive and compulsive hardcore base, they should have maintained a far smaller pool of consultants.

If they were smart they'd have hit the breaks on new signups a year ago. No market saturation, thus no cannibalization, thus a higher success rate for consultants yielding a constant stream of wholesale business with minimal turnover.

It still wouldn't be an ideal model for people like you, but you're not the target market under either scenario. I think it's a sound framework for a niche market full of true believers, not a catch-all for casual shoppers. I hate the product itself but when I saw how insanely- and I don't mean that completely colloquially- passionate some of these women were just for the brand itself, I was sold.

>what seems weird is you can't select your inventory.

>read it wrong but that shit seems off.

That's a half-truth.

You select your style and sizes. The actual prints and colors are selected at random.

Still, not being able to pick your prints or colors is a complete non-issue. That's actually part of the appeal and I'd argue they'd have a significantly lesser degree of success without it.

Box openings are often a hit and it helps drive the hunt for particular items. It ostensibly helps keep things on an even keel since those prints are (supposed to be) in limited supply.

The issue arises when they hire temps, don't train them properly, and you wind up with an unbalanced mix *and* they tend to pass the buck instead of just correcting things. If you order 40 items there should be a roughly 50/50 mix of solids and prints in the sizes and styles you selected. Solids do sale, but getting stuck with 40 pairs of gray leggings is a bitch.

The inability to select colors or styles wasn’t a problem at all.

Also, it’s MLM in terms of basic structure and culture, but most MLM’s I’ve seen all but require people to consistently consume their own product at every level and the business model ultimately boils down to recruiting people to recruit more people who will then recruit more people and everyone buys product from their upline. You make a list of all your friends and family and invite them to your house for cheese & crackers, little smokies and ranch-dipped carrot sticks and sell them on the road to financial freedom.
Here, you buy and sale product. The end.

You can still follow the aforementioned path to getting your number and social media accounts blocked by everyone near and dear, but you can just buy and sell product.

There are some policies that have become increasingly prohibitive but as I said earlier, many of those would be less cumbersome were they not bringing in new consultants by the truckload, were competent communicators and took responsibility for their mistakes. The MLM structure in and of itself doesn't bother me as long as you can move an actual product without *having* to recruit a down line.

My understanding is that people are doing this full time and committed to it all out. I'm just curious if the buying is consistent on all levels. I have a job so I can't commit like that, but I see your point.

I like the leggings they are cute, but sometimes the overall design from far away looks a little off.

Too many people are held back from things they'd love to do because they're too busy focusing on their flaws and/or the perceptions of others.

There are youtube listicle channels helmed by people with awful voices, terrible delivery and no personality doing decent viewing numbers because the content itself.

The Talking Thrones guy is awful. I’m on a GOT theory kick leading into season 7 and every so often one of his eps pops up and I skip him. He does a million views with a terrible voice and no personality.

Why?

Because content.

Obviously GOT gives him a leg up but the point stands. He sucks but it’s working for him and hopefully he couldn’t care less about what me or anyone else thinks.

Stop being down on yourself and give it a try, then post up.

I wanna concentrate more on the music playlist, as a way to put people on to music that's not mainstream or music by popular artists that's not their norm. a co-host might be a little more entertaining than I am but I'm a roll with the punches type of guy

Because I'm pretty sure I'm in that club. Inspired by a meeting I was in with a lady my age and an intern sill in college (and she's like frog's hair...).

It has honestly made me start to resent them and not want to talk to this person as much as I used to, and we've been friends for years. It's like its always something with this person and someone is always out to get them.

Everything is about them, yet you go to them about something minor and they don't have time for it. Gets frustrating. Like Legs said sometimes you gotta put them on time out for a bit. I did and it's become way less stressful. Enjoy yourself, that's whats important.

It's like you can clearly break down examples of how they frame situations in an unhealthy way. But they just won't be able to see it, there's something deeper at play that may require seeing a professional.

I announced it early on.
Ive had at least 6 Different jawns tell me they were pregnant in the past 6 years. One actually took it as far as having the baby and sending me pictures. I take her to court to see this kid and she tells the court there was a misunderstanding.

I've paid half to get rid of one last year.
BUt who knows if that was even mine or if she was really preggo.

So a fishing buddy of mine and i went fishing last Tuesday night and we got on the topic of his babymama that passed a few years ago. I grew up around his younger brother who was my age and me and him just started getting tight a couple years ago through fishing. So he's explaining how he and his babymama would fight all the time but he really loved her and eventually she took a downward spiral in the drug game and got murdered. So he starts telling me how promiscuous she was and started rattling off names of mutual ppl we know he think fked her. He pulled out her picture and i immediately recognized her as someone i hit also. Couldn't say sht but that was an awkward as hell moment.

Cant wait to pay off these student loan because they are a pain in the ass. Im thinking about taking out some equity in the house and pay them off but i dont want a higher mortgage. im going to have to weigh things out and investigate my options.

I want to get my investment game up within the next year. I think i want to learn the stock market more and possibly buy some stock soon. I really need to more focus on my retirement planning which is still a ways away but i still need to do something now.

What made it even more awkward is how he almost got emotional talking about her and how he thought she was the one when they met and how frustrated she made him.

All i got out when he showed me the pic was "Man, she was pretty."

She really was gorgeous.

I analyze data and market trends to construct contracts based on negotiations between my company and the participating party - something like that.

That's what I tell people when they ask me what I do for work.

Another mom at our daycare asked what I did and I told her. She laughed and said she hates me for making her insurance so high.

She then asked me about scheduling a play date so I told her no.

In response to Reply # 0

... I dunno.

::::::: Don't come in here. ::::::::

I suppose it doesn't matter. Depression or not, all I can do is deal with it.

The only real "out" I see will take at least another 6 months. That's a long time to
be floundering in the Lake of Despair. Two months in and it feels like you're lost at sea.

The funny thing is, I opened up to people this time. Not to bring them in... I don't bring people into this dark ass realm.
But I was able to step out sometimes. Every time I did though, it really turned out to be for naught.

And now I don't know. I have to keep swimming toward land; that much I know.
There is nothing and no one on that land. I know that much too.
The thought of tarting completely from the ground up, totally alone, after swimming so long is just...

I don't know why I keep trying. I just do.

Can a sense of duty and morality really be all that's keeping me from saying fuck it and throwing myself into the depths?

Maybe that's enough though.

But I live in a Critical Health Professionals Shortage Area and this clinic is income-based, so
I could only see my counselor every few months. I think the last year I saw her, it was about 3-4 times a year and dwindling.

There isn't any immediate help for me, unless I find myself with the razor blade at my wrists.
Then I would need emergency mental health services.

But dysthymia (chronic mild depression) doesn't need that. And as often happened, by the time I saw my therapist,
my downswing had ended and I'd stabilized again. Of course, stable is lower than a normal person's.
So the downswings are really low, and the upswings are still low. It's still not as low as major depression,
so I can actually function every day, though getting out of bed is hard sometimes. I still make it out.

This is terrible. You must be going through hell. Please look into resources that are low cost, free, voluntered, etc.

It's a strange kind of feeling. I feel pretty sure I'll make it out of this, but then I think, "Then what?"
That's the fearsome thing about despair. It's when you feel like there is nothing to look forward to or fight for anymore.
I guess that's how people say they "don't understand" it, because they can't imagine that mental space.

Unfortunately, what I just described IS the low-cost/free resources.
And this area has had a steady decline in quality mental health professionals.
I know people who've used different routes than mine, so-called better routes
(because it was paid - insurance, etc- and had fewer restrictions).
If they had good counselors, the counselors left for a bigger city. Mostly though,
they complain about about the counselors looking at porn/playing Candy Crush during the session.
(More than one instance of this, which is really disheartening)

The only other thing I've found was calling a hotline. It didn't help; the guy was pushy and condescending.

I’m sorry to see you’re in those depths right now. I know this has been something of a cycle and on the surface it’s easy to just assume you’ll pull out of this like always, but I know it’s not always that easy to pull out.

I’m not sure what can be done for you, what we can do for you aside from show support in this posts, but I hope you find enough strength and light to keep pushing. I don’t presume to know anything about you apart from what I’ve seen you post but please know that people do care.

In response to Reply # 67

do you have one?

I only ask because I have my counter argument in the pocket and thats ONLY because I grew up in the church so if someone is really ready to go toe to toe I have a response

funny thing is, even with all my counter points they never seem to get it, its just one "well what about ______ " after the other.

I can go all day.

there really isn't much of a back and forth. it's not that i'm a former christian and she's trying to pull me back in. i say my faith is my choice and i have no desire to change, and leave it at that.

she has been my main source of support these past few years while i was dealing with depression, but now shes telling me the only way she can be there for me is if i give church a try. clearly wont talk to her about my struggles anymore. i'm just irritated bc this is coming across as hella manipulative.

Sorry you have a friend like this.
I've noticed some christians need to have everything spelled out which is why I have to have my points laid out. For some just saying "I follow this system" leads to more questions and they need things to line up 1 to 1.

"what about the after life?"
"why do bad things happen"
etc
etc
etc

A fucking MLM pitch

When I asked what it was he said "dawg, you gotta come hear it cause if I try to describe it you prolly won't be interested"

LMAO.. I gave him a "lemme check my schedule"

the NEXT DAY dude is standing at my cubicle. Did I tell you he no longer works here? He was picking up his last check and wanted to check to see if I was coming.

When I said no he gave me a "You don't want to get rich! I never liked you anyway" dap.

Starting last Friday, I had one of the best Memorial day weekends of my life.

My daughter and my niece went to the niece's senior prom last Friday evening. They were stunning. It was a precursor to Tuesday when both of them graduated from high school. My daughter is headed to Howard while my niece is headed to VCU.

My parents got into to town on Saturday night. At 45, I'm always excited and thrilled to see them.

On Sunday, me and the fiancée took them, her mother, our daughter, and our nephew out to brunch. My son and my brother arrived in the evening. Was an awesome day to be on or close to the water in Baltimore.

On Monday, I threw a ton of chicken and turkey on the pit. It's always nice to BBQ and have my dad give me his stamp of approval. Gotta figure out how to eat all the food that remains.

Tuesday afternoon was the coolest because my baby girl walked across the stage and accepted that high school diploma. I didn't shed a tear during the ceremony because I'd already done so during a private moment the two of us shared while everyone else was getting ready. We took her out to an Indian restaurant that evening.

Then, on Wednesday morning, my fiancée became my wife in a very small ceremony where her family, my family, and our own blended family, as well as extremely close friends, were on hand to witness. No honeymoon right now because we still have a bunch to do: travel to Lake Charles for my family reunion; travel to Charleston for her family reunion; drop daughter off at college; travel to Destin to hang out with my brothers and cousins and their wives/SOs; and buy & move into another house.

So yeah! I'm exhausted by the past few days' events while also being excited for the present and future of me and my wife and the blended family that we have been grooming for quite some time.

Despite the loss of my brother a couple months ago, 2017 is everything that I'd hoped it would be.

and I was worried about my truck. I always park in front of that building since there are no trees there and I don't like bird crap and dirt and trees debris on the windshield. I feel bad that I was so worried about it because a vehicle is darn near nothing compared to your home.

The truck was fine, thankfully.

Creole got me hype. My fam came through and cold crushed it this weekend. They stepped up big time like it was all planned from the jump.

My wife's best friend from college came through and helped out as well.

I got home yesterday and there are 4 to 5 boxes of diapers, a double stroller, and aunts and uncles calling to help out too.

Mother In Law is here for a few weeks to help us get settled in and my sister is coming back as well to help out so my wife can teach these summer classes.

It's tough for me because I'm so far away and don't get to see them as often as I'd like to. When I do see them though, the event is damned near magical because we create such great memories and have crazy fun together.

We ain't perfect but damned I wish everyone had a family like mine so I didn't feel so weird when bammas are looking at me strange for talking about my people the way I do. LOL

A former classmate followed me to the city I'm in now, but I'm the
type, while I love y'all (from afar) I left high school in high school
and have really moved on from all except my best friend. She's had
some pretty bad luck out here, got fired from a good job, had to leave
an apt due to an incident with a neighbor (not her fault), and after
getting fired went back to her waitressing job and the restaurant
closed shortly after smh lol. Then yesterday she sends me a text that
disappointed me so much that I didn't even answer. She had the nerve
to ask me would I take a piss test for her lol. This is a grown woman
well into her 30's asking me some dusty dumb shit like this smh lol.
Get your life together, good lord. Has no kids, her only
responsibility is her and she can't even master that. End rant.

Had an excellent memorial day, saw Rakim and Mark Farina in the same
day, was just perfect!!

I wanna move to Leimert Park. Gonna go out there in July & figure it
out.

So much to figure out, but I'm enjoying the process.

In Atlanta next week, can't wait!

damnit. it's cause i drink too much.

well, maybe it's not really getting fatter, but it has gotten kinda fat. seems to be maintaining the same level of fatness, so not really continuing to grow.

shirt i'm wearing today is a little bit snug around the mid-section when i sit down.....crap.

where upon your stomach spills over surfaces when you lay on your side as if spilled honey on a surface.

so far every one keeps saying "You look so good and skinny and your skin is glowing!"

Meanwhile all i want to do is shotgun glacially cold tall cans and take red wine bottles to the head.

Thank god for alternative substances.
