"Party question: How/where do YOU get food for parties?"

Scenarios: Mom's 70th birthday is May 6th.

Need to get finger food / appetizers and non-alcoholic beverages for like 30 people - it's at 2pm so we are not serving lunch or dinner - its snacks.

There is no kitchen big enough to use at her place - we're holding it in a party room at her complex.

How would you handle this?

Call a caterer and just take what they have?

Call several caterers and pick up the food the day of?

Go to Costco/supermarket that has a food preparation area and just buy platters of food?

Thinking of this:
Meat: Lumpish or Egg rolls, Chicken Wings, something else (Pizza bites? Bite sized quiche? Pigs in a blanket?)
Veggie: Cheese/Cracker platter, Fruit platter, hummus/pita, potato chips+dip

Plus a giant sheet cake.

Any advice would be good. Budget for me for food could be $300 - frankly up to $500 if it means less hassle.

Order the veggie/ cheese trays from Costco. DO yall have a local chicken place? Get wings from a place like that and just put them in a pan with the sterno under it. Maybe a basket of rolls and some kinda pasta salad?

Pasta salad/ rolls
Chicken/ shrimp

and that other stuff you named. You should be good to go..... Now are we invited?

If you aren't boozing, then your budget should go a long way. Bonus - if you get platters of appetizers from say, like a TGIFridays or something (just an example, but you get it), then there's no prep for you to do other than picking it up and setting it out.

We once had my brother in law's party 'catered' from a Cuban restaurant for like $500 - and that was entrees, deserts, the whole thing. We picked up the food an hour or two before hte party and it was a huge hit. Super easy to do, they usually only need about 24 hours notice and you can get a few of their popular appetizers along with some chips and dip, sodas, waters, etc from a restaurant, and you're good to go.

I'm going to use the Ralph's Supermarket in Downtown San Diego.

They have a LOT of prepared food available in their Deli section and it's cheap.

Chicken Wings
Cold pasta salad
Egg Rolls
Pico De Gallio Bean Dip
Meatballs

Plus they have tons of cheap cakes.

many are good at doing catering size orders you can pick up.

also, consider copping a lechon pig. feeds the whole party.
