There are some very green actors on it, that need a LOT of polishing...but the storyline is decent enough to hold your attention without being to over the top and far fetched.

That's just it though...it's not proclaiming to be anything else. Everything Black entertainment doesn't have to be protests and marches and empowerment all day every day. Sometimes you need some good wholesome chuuuch drama played out on screen to get into.

Notice that interracial relationships between black men and white woman aren't depicted like that in any mainstream outlet. When they are, they turn out badly or just don't last from Hancock to Get Out. Don't get me wrong, I'm not interested in seeing them, especially since mainstream seems to have a huge problem with showing healthy BLACK relationships, but the original Birth of a Nation lives on. But anyway, both the movie and the show are in support of placing white validation over Black empowerment... they indicate that it's impossible for any black person to be serious about counter-racism while staying away from white people sexually, and that's why the movie has been given more life so needlessly. Even if white people don't watch it, it's a mindset that white people LOVE for black people to have, because it makes us much easier to dominate.
