Cool beans. I didn’t agree at all and gave my position on the song in response.
>• you responded with comparisons, suggesting that those were >examples of 'hard(er)' songs
Sorry but this is inaccurate.
I presented examples of what *I* view as” hard” in light of your description. Further, I presented a contrast, not a comparison.
>• i then replied, emphasizing that i used the term 'hard' in >reference to the overall theme of the song (posse cut, >braggadocio, etc.). comparison has nothing to do with it >(there's room for all of it).
What you’re talking about wasn’t even a comparison, it was a contrast. Those types of songs may have had nothing to do with why *you* see this song as hard, but it literally had everything to do with why I *don’t* view the song as “hard”. There’s a pretty clear distinction there.
>in short, i'm not attempting to convince you or change your >opinion (even though we disagree, i still appreciate your >perspective). i just wish we could have a convo about >entertainment that doesn't involved comparisons.
I gave examples of songs I view as hard. Not sure why that’s such a big problem.
Further, the comparisons I *actually* made were songs that actually have aesthetic similarities with this one:
Get Em High and some of the joints on Rising Down. If you play Teleprompters in a mix with Rising Down or Late Registration, it fits like a glove. The entire point of those comparisons was to illustrate that I dislike this particular style and sound in general.
Keeping in line with your header here, one of the funniest things I find in musical discussions is the disdain everyone seems to have for comparisons without regard to the context of those comparisons.
>*edit: your point about disliking the chorus (and why) is a >much better example of communicating your opinion of the song >than the comparisons.
Bruh….I communicated my opinion of the song exactly as I saw fit. For a guy who supposedly appreciates my perspective you do seem to want to control the way I choose to present my perspective.
Again, the context of my comparison was to give examples of songs with a similar aesthetic to illustrate that I generally dislike that aesthetic in and of itself. The context of my contrast was to present songs that are “hard” to *me*.
