Is that an American thing? Our gas pumps don't pump unless you hold down the handle trigger so you have to stand beside the tank holding the pump while it fills up. I was wondering why there's a pump in the car's tank with nobody standing beside it.

plates with lips (don't know the real name) that can hold the trigger in place so you can do other stuff. it lets you wash windows or go into the store while the gas is still flowing.

Canada can be kinda a joke with all our safety rules....but this seems to be one worth the while. Leaving gas pumps pumping unattended? I can't imagine that checks out on the ol' cost/benefit analysis.
The most ridiculous rules we have surround booze. You guys would feel like you're in an authoritarian state if you visited here to party. You can't buy booze after 10pm (except at bars)....all street festivals and amusement parks have tiny little fenced off 'designated drinking zones'. Yah...it's pretty much a no-fun zone. I couldn't believe it when I went to Disneyworld and was allowed to carry a beer around the property.
In anycase...I've been robbed twice and this was EXACTLY what I did. No regrets either.

the folks inside can stop them if needed. they shut off on their onw when the tanks full. I can't think of a reason not to have this feature.

this sounds like the parents watching the kids so they don't drink too much and get rowdy.

In my experience it's more common to find this feature in southern states.
In NY the gas stations must remove them and there are laws against circumventing the removal (for example, by putting the gas cap into the handle to hold it down).

I had a situation like this when I was a teen. 2 dudes pulls up on 3 of us. we're unarmed. dude pulls out the uzi and says empty your pockets. all you can really do is comply.
my friends were hands up and visibly nervous. I reacted differently and much more slowly. not trying to be a hero, but just trying to not make any sudden moves. dude says he gonna shoot me anyway. I ask why. he said I was moving too slow. fortunately, nobody got shot.
it ended up being just practice for them. we had no real money. they let us get our stuff and then told us that we better get a gun.

fortunately for point #1 a common thing with these encounters seems to be that as soon as the victims have the appearance of complying the criminal now starts focusing on his surroundings instead of the people hes robbing, this is where your practiced smooth draw has to happen
as for point 2, with me it basically means dont ever end up in that situation lol(easier said than done)

the things to note here is he keeps his gun in a spot a criminal would expect you to reach for (4-5 oclock aka where your wallet is) and he also is patient and waits for the right moment(pay attention to the fact he starts to draw at the very beginning but stops when he sees the second guy)

i personally cant stand to have it in the front its very uncomfortable and situations like the above video he would have never been able to do that if he carried there
there are plusses for appendix carry but i cant do it way too uncomfortable especially in the car

Like the robber was too casual with it. He pulled the gun and the looked at the guy on the left with his gun down for what seemed like a long ass time. I like to think I would've tried to snatch him up in a choke hold or duff him or something. At the very least, duck behind him so he's gotta turn on me and give his back to the homie...
That's what I'd like to think.
I reality, it'd probably go down in this exact manner.

on a armed robber, you gotta shoot. aint no holding til the cops come. he's not caring about your life, so you have to.
this happened at a store called Wish a couple of years ago. folks standing in line early in the morn for some new kicks. armed dude tries to rob several of them. he gets shot and dies. shooter doesn't get charged cuz he's defending himself and basically saves everyone else.
