the alt-right and the progressives are yelling at each other....yet they are in agreement of the central tenet of the protest. There's these bizarre awkward moments where they all seem to realize this. A couple times...they were all chanting 'fuck this war' TOGETHER lol...then they look at each other confused...then change the chant to 'fuck this war and fuck you too' just to differentiate themselves.

Feel free to make any cohesive response to that statement of fact.

Curious to know....did you support the Trump bombing of Syria? I did.

The alt-right AND the anti-fa are both against the bombing. The protest was organized by the alt-right to take a stance against the Syrian attack. So the idea that the progressive left went there to protest a message that they inherently agree with is kinda hilarious.

Do you have tourette's syndrome or would you like to expand on this? Be careful not to say TOO much though. Wouldn't want to embarrass yourself.

Were you unaware that 'progressives' is a perfectly legitimate and established, non-controversial name to designate people who are part of the activist left? I'll assume this is this case until an explanation is provided.

... seemingly supportive of Assad's regime; one can only assume including the recent attacks with illegal chemical weaponry on civilians.

They're not "Anti War" because of any sort of ideological commitment to peace and love unlike the Antifa; they're Anti War because it allows them to sell their lowest-common-denominator "Us and Them" hate speech in Snake Oil bottles labelled "Peacenik". I expect a few "more opinionated than thou" fools will loudly fall for it too.

They should all be punched in the face wherever possible. I know it sounds ironic (and alt-right trolls can wring their little snowflake hands all they like), but fascists are not to be tolerated. They're literally the only people in society that should be treated in the way they want to treat everyone else. Punch them. Exclude them. Straight up laugh in their faces. Dox them and tell their mothers how their kids spend their time. Send photos of them to their employers. They're pathetic social-misfits and so is anyone using breath to play any type of Devil's Advocate for them.

Peace and love? The Trump Syria strike targeted an airbase that is being used in the systematic killing of millions of poor, muslim civilians.

I'm not completely close-minded about non-interventionist policies....but the fact is, Bernie Sanders (as good a representative of the progressives as any) is virtually indistinguishable from the alt-right's views on American intervention:

"I’m deeply concerned that these strikes could lead to the United States once again being dragged back into the quagmire of long-term military engagement in the Middle East," Sanders said in a statement. "If the last 15 years have shown anything, it’s that such engagements are disastrous for American security, for the American economy, and for the American people."

Here's 40 minutes of footage from the protest:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ARNlenMrLc

There's an individual holding a sign that says 'Hands Off Syria'. My SO and I tried to figure out if he was alt-right or anti-facist. There was no way of knowing. End of day...the anti-facists went to protest a protest that they intrinsically agree with.

You either don't have a position on this issue or you are too afraid to articulate your position. You seem unaware of how obvious this is to everyone who reads your cowardly posts. 'If I don't say anything of substance or commit myself to a position...then I can't be shown to be wrong.' It's like an ostrich burying it's head in the sand. Yes they'll protest this bit of a war.

No, they won't protest "war" in general.

There's no reason to look at either for more than a second.

Might as well say NAMBLA and the SPCC both love children.

It doesn't mean the groups can be fucking allies or that anyone with a few working brain cells can't see one group shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a child.

The Alt-Right talk like they love their country, but they really want to fuck a great deal of its citizens raw along with most of the rest of the world. Fucking misanthropes.

The alt-right and the anti-facists agree on a policy of non-intervention. Their reasoning really isn't worlds apart at all. They're both based on the idea that America should not be the world's police and that intervention always makes the situation worse for the countries involved and that homeland security is compromised. You won't find those types of commonality in motivations of Nambla members and the SPCC.

The fact is...we're fooling ourselves to think there isn't idealogical crossover between the alt-right and progressive lefts. They also both hate Israel and agree that America should stop sending so much aid to them. They're also both against free trade and economic globalism.

Just like this entire conversation.

It'll become pretty obvious over time that the Alt-Right have no interest in helping humanity, only an interest in closing White America's walls as tightly as they possibly can and letting everyone outside those walls rot. They may cross paths on individual policies, but for *entirely* different ideological reasons and that will become more and more obvious, as it ALWAYS does with fascist movements.

Like a stopped clock appears to tell the right time twice a day, fascists appear like they support humanitarian interest twice a century. Neither are worth paying attention to for more than a second.

I'm not sure America is entirely geared to deal with fascism tbh. You're certainly showing worrying signs that you're not anyway.

US society seems to be treating it like a little cough and it's a fucking cancer. It tore our continent and by extension, the entire civilised world apart for decades last century. It's not something to be appeased, collaborated with or tolerated. It is not something worth refocusing so that it can be understood through the lens the rest of humanity uses - fascists hate humanity.

This is how you deal with fascism at home and one of the key demonstrations of why Britain never fully fell for it in the 20th Century. We, the multicultural urban populace, cracked their fucking skulls when they tried.

My neighbourhood's proudest day:

your average anti-war lefty doesn't believe more violence is the answer, and concerns themselves with the victims who will suffer from war.. they always catch shit for being naive, bleeding heart, "oh, let's all sing kumbaya", etc..

your average anti-war alt right guy might pretend for the sake of their argument that civilian casualties, or refugees or even homeless vets is part of their reasoning in not wanting military intervention, but their actual mindset is "fuck those people in those ass backwards countries..too bad for them. it's all about us us us, me me me. cuck"

don't let your (and sometimes our) disdain of hyperprogressive idiocy lead you to reductionist bullshit

if 2 separate groups arrive at the same/similar solution to 2 different agendas...it doesn't invalidate the solution nor does arriving at the same answer warrant anything other than further scrutiny

anti-intervention solves both the xenophobic nationalists (who don't mind intervention when it promotes that agenda) vs idealists who prefer to the U.S. to quit bullying the world (out of a peaceful ideology or simply to quit angering the extremists/terrorists)

they don't like Jews

the others don't like our undying support of Israel bc we're using them as a chess piece in the middle east

i personally think anti-intervention is futile at this point and a bit naive but i think it's something to aim for as a gradual shift in foreign policy
