"This dude is not pulling off Tupac Shakur (All Eyez On Me, 2017)"

Check out this trailer.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRgua3A3XOE

I don't mind saying it, Tupac was a beautiful dude with a lot of presence and a commanding voice.

This dude looks like them dudes you use to see at the club who were trying to pull off the Tupac look and were responsible for a lot of Tupac sightings in the early 2000s.

If they cast dude just because he looked similar to Tupac and not because he was a strong actor than you know this movie will be straight trash.

SMH.

his face is too fat, they look a little a like but what takes me out of it is his face just looks fatter than Pac's, really he looks to have more weight on him in general than Tupac but he actually looks younger to me.

I think they cast Afeni well though, Danai Gurira could play Lauryn Hill too.

I'm also one of those people that think Jeff Goldblum and Orlando Jones look a like so you can ignore me lol

He's got enough of the look, and from the trailer it looks to me like he did a decent job with the mannerisms. Can't be an easy dude to master, he was so uniquely eccentric in look, facial expressions, vocal tone, mannerisms...I actually can't imagine anyone there'd be more than a couple of people who have even a little bit of all of that, like this dude does.

I don't use micromanaging in a negative way either
I mean they were involved all the way and it showed
that's a good thing, even with the Dre as an angel gloss over

Even when we get the benefit of someone who was there for the whole thing (Notorious)
the end result was trash

But Pac had enough drama for 2 movies, we'll see

...for the whole thing, as you say, is trash himself. So the end result could only reflect that person.

Whereas Dre and Cube are not trash, hence Straight Outta Compton not being so.

There are young people around who actually remember and witnessed how beautiful and charismatic that dude was.

Tupac was a supernova. It's hard for anyone to be cast in this role and not look like trash in comparison.

Denzel BECAME Malcolm X. What would have happened if they casted for light skin and red hair first? Terrence Howard as Malcolm X would have been a national disaster.

Of course getting over the lack of resemblance but dude is such a good actor who has never had that role to make it all that apparent.

Closest thing is his role in Sucka Free City which no one saw of course.

Similarly, I think Lakeith Stanfield did a nice snoop in South Central without having the full on resemblance.

so somehow they skip mad stuff (source awards? did the east/west beef even happen?) but then still drag thru other scenes

and those scenes drag because....

the writing/dialogue wasnt good
like they had the setups for the songs (obviously the best part), but never fully nailed it on any of em

lol @ snoop doing his own voiceovers
jada was the best actor, by far
typecast biggie got slim. i guess he figure he done with the part now.... unless a badboy biopic come out in the next 2 years

overall not horrible, but didnt really show pac beyond the surface
and glossed over most of the later controversies

i prolly shoulda watched it in the hood, woulda been more entertaining

Like, we've been hearing Snoop on a consistent/constant basis since '93, so hearing his voice and seeing some dude mouth the words was like those weird, disorienting VR demos that throw your equilibrium off.

Faith's actress was V.O.'d, too.

I think a big part of the problem is we were there, we remember all this shit, vividly even

So when SOC completely skips Dre/Dee Barnes beating
(It was a huge scandal at the time, and this was before Internet/social media)
we're like WTF?

or like someone pointed out, this Tupac skips over Source awards and East/West (Milked by the "hip hop media" and contributed to his death)

1) that's a long list for just one person/ one
aspect of the flick.

2) shows their lack of detail/research, cuz
clearly jada would have given insight if
asked.

Who else did they not bother to consult?

3) it's a film, but a few of the Outlawz are
playing their 20 year old selves?? (Lol)

4) So the movie is sh!tty AND inaccurate??

And really my point is to let that man rest.

People have made enough money off him.

In response to Reply # 0

particularly the part where John Singleton got booted from the project because he and the producer couldn't agree on how Pac should be represented.

Benny Boom has the best intentions but Singleton (even now) would've been the better filmmaker for the job if not only because he worked with Pac and helped to cement the influence that the West Coast had on the culture with Boyz N The Hood.

where singleton wanted to imply Pac was raped in jail or have his mom in a lesbian love scene for no reason? or have a scene where Pac was talking to his own severed head?

If that's true then he should have been booted

by the filmmakers promoting it on Combat Jack's show.

So, this weekend I bought tickets--to support--but went instead to see 'It Comes At Night' after the Wesley Morris praise of its excellent direction. The movie is horrible! A horror/thriller that is somehow boring--exactly what you don't want from that genre.

The Kid Demetrius Shipp Jr did a good job playing Tupac and can ell that he grew more confident in the role as the movie went on.

All of these entertainers that are complaining should have offered input instead of trying to trash the movie

it felt very made for tv

There's a decent amount of cringy stuff in Notorious, but really it's not close.

In response to Reply # 85

I compare it to SOC because of the similarity (musically driven larger than life subject matter)

But this one felt more like set pieces:

"Here's Afeni the militant"
"Here's Afeni the struggling single mother"
"Here's Afeni the addict"

No story telling, no character development, no narrative that tells the audience HOW and WHY she went from the Panthers to copping crack

It was all very scene 1- cut, scene 2- cut, on and on

Same with the Tupac story

All the scenes felt very much ripped from headlines
very video driven, and facing the same problem that SOC and Notorious have: We remember the most minute details
It wasn't that long ago, and it's not even about nitpicking scenes
these movies miss the larger back story, focusing instead on
the media highlights

Now I see what John Singleton was talking about on Drink Champs

I will say after watching this movie it really hit home

Dude died over a chain...a f'n chain fam

Wasn't horrible, also wasn't masterpiece theatre either

The issue is...any of the posthumous documentary releases were better.
