"Awkward moment with boss"

Had a conference call with my boss and other random people. At the end of the call he decides to tell a joke:

Him: Old man is celebrating his 90th birthday and a sexy woman rings his doorbell. The lady says I'm here to give you super sex on your birthday. The old man (he's 90 and hard of hearing) says 'I'll take the soup'.

WTF?!

1. the joke is SUPER corny
2. how in the hell does he think this is ok?
3. what would you do after that?

Everybody else laughed. I just rolled my eyes and took a long sip of coffee.

PG-13 turns to NC-17, to R and then even to XXX.

Years ago I worked at a small company in the burbs, and the boss gave me and another dude a ride to the train station. All I remember is dude asking me some random questions about dick sucking or ass fucking, and we were all dudes in the car. None of the jokes were directed at me or anyone else IRL (more like "what would you do if ________ happened???" kinda talk) He was joking, but I already knew I wasn't gonna last long because who jokes like that with new employees?

attractive co-worker who usually dressed nice and casual, came to work with hair and make-up done right and dressed up. turns out she was dressed to go to court and was all in her feelings, understandably so. problem was I said she was pretty in front of co-workers who made it into a thing, she just said thanks. since she was nervous about court, her not gushing over the compliments morphed into us 'making her feel uncomfortable'. it was another female co-worker who reported it and we had to sit through a few hours of a workplace sensitivity meeting.

it's a shitty joke. one i probably wouldn't tell at work. But if that's it? I wouldn't stress it. If it's part of some other shit and he starts pushing it, then maybe it's something more.

Overall, though, this is why i don't fuck w/a lot of co-workers outside of work. It's hard to constantly be social w/people (especially when alcohol is involved) and constantly be worried about crossing some invisible lines.

Nobody gets in trouble for cursing, making inappropriate remarks or ANY of that shit.

I spend half my day with my head buried in my hands wondering how people don't stop themselves. Most of it is toilet, frathouse humor. Nothing racial.

We have the 'turn everything phrase into a sex thing' guy:

"went to Subway, huh? Did you get the Foot Long?" (that shit stopped being funny in 3rd grade.)

We have the 'get mad, and call people pussies and bitches' guy. I've actually pulled him aside and told him that if a female co-worker ever heard him, he'd be toast. He didn't care. I left it alone. I've actually heard him refer to client's as bitches in open conversation. "You got that bitch so-and-so's number?"

We have the 'look at porn on his phone, and show you what he's looking at' guy.

So yeah. A dick joke in open company? Around here we call it 'tuesday'.

His argument was that "dame" is short for "damsel" and thus is an acceptable term to use, as opposed to "broad" (my personal favorite) or "chick"

Not really a bad conversation, but definitely not one to be had in the workplace in today's climate. Oh, and that dude that calls women "bitches" better be THE SHIT at what he does or he's toast as soon as someone gets offended enough to make a serious complaint. What's wrong with him?

He's beyond help. I've tried to pull his coat to it many times. He doesn't get it. And for the record, he's a terrible employee. People just like him for some reason so he gets away with a lot of shit.

( word around the campfire is he was smashin' our ex boss on the low, so she let him get away with a lot of shit too.)

so upper echelon have to take media training - depending on the department. Our department has to present to several a lot of people outside the org.

So I was a little taken aback when he said the joke in mixed company.

The joke was corny, but hardly offensive in adult company in 2017.

I bet you walked past worse on a billboard on your way into the office.
