"Tell On Ya'Self (or at least on myself) Tuesday..."

Just getting this off my chest before I blow a gasket. And considering most recent events, I don't want that happening. Just don't wanna discuss it face-to-face with anybody. Shit's got me buggin' for real.

Spelman is on that BS. Still no budging from that $42k and they're causing me some stress because I hate telling my lil one "No." 18 years old now and believes she has it all figured out. Ain't taking no advice because she wants what she wants. And even after Loyola gave enough that only $17k needed to come outta pocket, she still doesn't even want to consider them because they're here in the city.

Howard is on that BS right now too. They sent an acceptance email but have no idea when they are going to send the acceptance package nor the financial aid award letter. If that is an indicator of the HBCU experience, then this gon' be a long four years of BS. VCU is on it too. They sent notice of a nice scholarship but not the final award letter. So, yeah... They on that BS too. And we won't hear from Villanova for a few more weeks.

My big brother was buried last week. I had to speak cuz I'm the oldest now. It was tough. I haven't done as well of a job processing it because I was surrounded by family all last week. We laughed, cried, drank, and ate good together. I, alone, haven't been able to get over the fact that my big bro ain't here anymore. I sat in the house all weekend and didn't feel like doing anything. This combined with that other stress, mentioned above, had me zoned out just wanting to be by myself. Poured up with some Nero walnut liquer (on the rocks) and Not Your Father's Root Beer.

First day back in the office after being gone for two weeks: training the first week and family stuff the second week. I'm already ready to get outta here. Might just go sit in the park later and chill before going home to Lucy. My manager told me to take all the time I needed. Didn't think I'd need more than a week.

Like I said, I just needed to get this off my chest. This was the best place to do so since I don't wanna menacingly throw trash away or spit on someone here in the office.

Sounds like you've been dealing with a lot, and have a lot on your plate. Don't forget to rest, man. You can't carry all that weight if your legs are tired.

HBCU's should be cheaper than public schools.

This some bullshit

TBH the fact that you're even a mod here fits squarely within Jag's narrative of OK-sanctioned aggression, bullying, and toxicity. *shrug*

my older bro passed on Jan 9th this year. He was 2 years older than me(38). We were headed out there later this year to go to his wedding and now we aren't.

Its tough man. I only took a week off of work. Should have taken more. Wife says I am mean to her. I didn't even notice. Still haven't really processed it fully. Don't know what is going on.

Typed all that to say I know what you're going through, but I can't really offer anything else at the moment.

I just stayed quiet all weekend. I think she could detect something. So, she just kept a bit of distance.

I guess I need to open up at some point so she knows exactly what I'm going through.

You'll be as fine as I hope to be.

>Did she apply to NC A&T?? and if not, WHY?????!

She'd visited Hampton, Howard, and Spelman. Couldn't stand Hampton. she dugs Howard. And Spelman is where she felt most comfortable.

Mainly, she wants to be in an urban environment and not in a rural/suburban/small-town one. I've recently suggested she apply to A&T, Xavier, FAMU, and Fisk. All of them because they're cheaper than Spelman yet still highly ranked HBCU's. All top 10 per the rankings I've looked through. Xavier, specifically, because of their track record of producing MDs and since it's in N.O.

With her SAT scores and GPA being higher than the accepted mean, based on the stats I've seen, it appears that she could get more merit money if there is anything left at this stage. All of the schools are still accepting applications through 5/1/17. I believe A&T has already concluded but will still take them on a rolling basis.

That doesn't make any damn sense.
That would be the easiest "No" I'd ever have with my child. That is highway robbery.

Either way, it is an emphatic "NO!"

Over a four year span, that could easily exceed $170k in principal. That's just for a BS.

She's upset but will get over it. Eventually, I will get over her being disappointed. Maybe it's tough sledding right now for me cuz of the other stuff.

the children and I usually sit in the car a good 15 minutes before I throw them out the car for school. this morning, a woman pulled in front of us and let out about five kids. I go, "whoa, that's a lot of kids".

my babies just watching...
then they were like, "it IS a lot"
I looked in the backseat at them... "it's a lot of y'all - three of y'all"
"thank you sweet baby Jesus I just had the one"

We laugh..

getting them up and out the house is WORK. I can't imagine paying for college too...

peace and blessing bro

I've kind of decided that if I had a daughter and she doesn't or can't go to my Alma Matas, then she should go to Spelman.

Them chicks run the world and you can't match the confidence you see them women have.

In my law school there was a disproportionate amount of the black women there came from Spelman.

42 grand is tuition?

I thought I was saw Spelman on the top of the list of schools with the best bang for your bucks.

Annually... Essentially, there is only about $10k being met by federal financial aid. Institutional aid is minimal.

The school is ranked as the best HBCU and has been for a few years straight. There's no comparison to the ROI attained through a school like Loyola. However, it has one of the highest for the lane it is in.

We are just waiting for the final award letter to show up.

As for my big bro, thank you! It's tough and I've been having my moments. I guess that will never go away.

My dad sent me an email yesterday about some project management classes to consider. He would normally address the email to me and my brother since all three of us shared that education and experience. I looked at the "To:" line and just took a deep breath because the cat's name wasn't there. Tough one!

Seriously, I guess there's no other way to deal with it but to walk straight through it. Ya know? There's no promise that it won't hurt, sting, or bite. Just gotta deal. Shit's hard though.

Peace and blessings to your dad and family!
