no matter where they come from.
i used to question the international adoptions because working in the foster care field for a while i saw such a great need for kids to be adopted domestically. but i also understand that there are needs in other countries as well.
but it's something we've talked about doing in the future.
Maybe a poor white kid from Denmark

adopted children and I don't know -- the impression I get is that on average the kids grow into kind of underwhelming lives, but maybe that's a step up when all things are considered?

Cruise is a particularly wild case all on his own, and from what I understand Connor Cruise is just fine, albeit within the context of being deep in Scientology. That situation owes more to Tom’s religious choices than anything and I don’t recall any horror stories from his adopted children.
Katie Holmes and prior girlfriends are a different matter.
Woody Allen certainly qualifies but it hardly makes a case for rampant mistreatment of adopted children by celebrities. I don’t know one way or the other but a couple of high profile cases don’t necessarily indicate a broader trend.
An objective way to view this would be to find some way to look at how well children adopted to “regular” (non-celebrity) families turn out percentage wise in relation those adopted by celebrities. Another barometer would be to look into how well orphaned children from Malawi turn out after being adopted against the turnout of those who don’t.
But since we’re hoping Madonna’s newest adoptions turn out OK, we already have the most possibly appropriate sample source to pull from since she’s adopted two prior children from the same country. I’d say that’s the real barometer for determining whether these two will turn out ok.
