"Alex Jones. Holy shit. Alex Jones. "
Fri Feb-03-17 12:02 PM by double negative

I've been listening to the Alex Jones interview on the Joe Rogan show, I've heard of this cat for some years now but I had no idea he was literally cat shit crazy.

Trump is supposedly a fan.

The joking/not joking culture of the internet has created some mile high waves.

I laughed out loud and said "no fucking way" when he said in response to Joe asking him if he might have a bias towards Obama because of Obaba's race - "Oh no, I'm not racist, Jimi Hendrix is my favorite musician!"

He might end up in the White House as an official reporter...this is something he has been pushing for.

Its super crazy that he thinks Bush, Clinton and Obama were all the devil yet Trump is alright.

because instead of saying "yo, the shit in your head is mad stupid"

he teased things out and got Alex to show the listening audience how completely off planet earth he is.

he built rapport to put Alex at ease and was able to get him to have a back and forth instead of letting him fire all cylinders at once and take of the show or get defensive and shut down

So Bannon is "mixed on a lot of this stuff" because that's what he told the guy who asked him if he believed the "offensive and inflammatory" stuff.

"The question I was always interested in getting at with Bannon was do you really believe this stuff - because a lot of it is offensive and inflammatory. And he said, you know, personally I'm mixed on a lot of this stuff. But we're airing a lot of things that traditional people are thinking that don't get mainstream media representation anymore.

Like you say....there's nothing stopping Trump from blocking them all out except for Fox. The only thing stopping previous administrations from doing this was the cost to their public image. Trump is an anomaly in the sense that doing this may not hurt him in that regard. It's hard to say....but he hasn't done it yet. So it's possible that they are worried such a bold move would cost them some of the centrist supporters.

In the meantime...CNN hasn't backed down. I've been pleased with the extent that they are TRYING to hold his feet to the fire every night. It is going to take an incredible amount of persistence to continue. I think the new term being used....'chaos theory' is right on the nose. He is just trying to exhaust his opponents. I've made this observation over and over and over again in different contexts the past year....but one of the latest examples is the Frederick Douglass error. I'm convinced that shit was scripted and on purpose. Just another example of a long series of Trump baiting his opponents. He needs to manufacture controversy and outrage to keep his white reactionary supporters engaged. If we're not calling him racist....his supporters won't be engaged. He NEEDS the accusations and he will continue to manufacture them.

I had Smirconish (sp?) on for a few on my wake up yesterday

and they're still giving these Trumpsters a platform for their alternative facts, without any challenge

Ex: Middle aged black woman with credentials from Vanderbilt I believe, i.e. I'm black and educated...wouldn't you like to be a Trumpster too...

Was dug in on talking points we know aren't true IRT the travel ban

They'll deny it's a Muslim ban, even against Trumpster and Ghouliani's own words

Sheeeeeiiiiittt, they've devolved to arguing it wasn't a travel ban

But the BHO equivalency is a flat out lie

BHO put a freeze on issuing new visas, temporarily, in response to a direct threat = the bowling green massacre, but never stopped accepting refugees

That's not what Trumpster did, he banned errybody, green card holders, visa holders, etc...

Errybody, from 7 countries

The Syrian christians being discriminated against during the immigration process is another lie

They are 50% of the refugees we've accepted, despite being only 5% of the population

http://www.cnn.com/videos/tv/2017/02/04/swain-colleges-ban-protest-astonishing-hypocrisy.cnn

and dude just sat there, checking his watch for the segment to be over

This happens on every panel. They are not being challenged. They are being given a platform.

Yes, as you said. Quite a spot for the msm to be in; they created this monster, now it's turning on them.

I'm talking primetime. 8 to midnight. Anderson Cooper and Don lemon are showing up and doing what needs to be done and i commend them for that.

I think people tend to be attached to the blame the media narrative. Trump's rise is not the media's fault. Just my perspective....but I have never been MORE supportive of corporate media my entire life. I'm not seeing the media complicit in his success. I'm seeing mainstream media as the opposing force to Trump. CNN is the good guys in my worldview for the first time in my life.

I've said it elsewhere recently....but the activist left has been utterly useless. Conservative journalists like David Frum (who has embraced the left since the election) have done more to fight Trump than who I would've expected in a scenario like this. I watch Frum's twitter feed every day. Check out this epic article he wrote for the Atlantic. Fucking right on:

https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2017/03/how-to-build-an-autocracy/513872/

that's the type of shit that actually has a chance to stop him. Would've never thought I'd side with Frum on ANYTHING. The activist left are proving themselves to be ill-equipped to deal with something as tragic and scary as this. They just retreat into their little worlds and agendas while a madman is trying to dismantle the society. I will be permanently changed by this. And my perception of others has changed too. My world's gone a little topsy-turvy. I'm seeing who's for real and who's not. Don Lemon and Anderson Cooper have surprisingly been real imo.

I could spend all day relaying the highly substantive thoughts contributed by david frum these past few weeks. I highly recommend an extended scroll through his twitter feed. Gender pronouns and racial euphemisms are going to be completely irrelevant in the world Trump is trying to create. I STILL don't think people are taking him seriously enough. Yes, I'm an alarmist.

I apologize for ranting...but suppose Trump had two options after 4 years:

1. Same old,same old....economy humming....approval ratings below 40.

2. 5 million Americans killed in unprecedented terrorist attack. Multiple wars in multiple countries....martial law declared in cities.....approval rating above 60.

What does Trump choose?

THAT is the kind of alarm I feel. There has NEVER been a better strategic time to attack America than right now.

You're seeing the population as a monolith.

Martial law is declared in areas that the strongman is not liked under the auspices of law and order. It's hypothetical....but do you think rednecks in the south are gonna be upset that Trump declares martial law in the southside of Chicago? He 'will have no choice' and 'those protesters are anarchistic rioters anyways' and 'these gang members are superpredators'. Strongmen don't enforce martial law in areas they are liked.

Worth a read:

http://www.fsmitha.com/h2/ch12muss4.htm

Rest assured...Bannon is very familiar with the historical rule that strongman, populist leaders become more appealing as living conditions worsen. This happens because the worsening conditions are not blamed on the strongman....he ceases the opportunity to blame them on his enemies. The worse life gets in america the stronger Trump's support will be.

In response to Reply # 44

And that attack would have to be an effective to such an extent that then population in general felt that even their being armed in masse would not be sufficient.

I talk a lot of shit about the founders but I think they got it right with the 2nd amendment more than they got it wrong. Americans are still far more likely to take to the streets in armed rebellion than they are to just let guns or the right to use them to be taken from them.

It would take a master stroke of genius to get martial law to stick in the US

...misses the point and picks the exact wrong thing to be mad at. Like, if you want to be mad at an SNL sketch, okay guy, we're used to that by now. But to have the thing that REALLY rankles your ass is that Spicer is played by Melissa McCarthy? Yeah.

I hope Rosie O'Donnell's Obannon impression is on point, just to drive him completely insane.

the weirdest thing to me about this is the fact that the media really isn't pouncing on this ... the whole Bannon at the right hand of a president who is pushing Alex Jones InfoWars theories out as fact..

it would be like Obama pushing stuff he sees on WorldStarHipHop as if its the gospel...

http://www.gq.com/story/donald-trump-loves-infowars

Donald Trump Is Getting His Information From America's Most Dangerous Conspiracy Theorist

InfoWars' Alex Jones believes that the government was behind September 11th and Sandy Hook. Now, he has the ear of the leader of the free world.

White House counselor and serial liar Kellyanne Conway had a hell of a weekend, frantically walking back her comments about the "Bowling Green massacre," a terrorist attack on American soil that might have helped to justify President Trump's Muslim ban... except for the tiny detail that no such incident ever occurred. Although the Internet had great fun at Conway's expense, the line of argument she deployed in her statement was legitimately alarming. Here's how she put it:
There was very little coverage‍—‌I bet it's brand new information to people that President Obama had a six-month ban on the Iraqi refugee program after two Iraqis came here to this country and were radicalized‍—‌and then they were the masterminds behind the Bowling Green massacre. I mean, most people don't know that, because it didn't get covered.

Conway now claims that she meant to refer to the "Bowling Green terrorists," two men arrested in Kentucky in 2011 for providing material support to Iraqi militants—meaning the incident she cited still did not involve attacks on U.S. soil, but whatever. Because all serial liars have one another's backs, President Trump doubled down on Conway's comments in a speech delivered on Monday, making the breathtaking assertion that terrorist attacks have become so commonplace all over the world that the media isn't even reporting them anymore.

Radical Islamic terrorists are determined to strike our homeland as they did on 9/11, as they did from Boston to Orlando to San Bernadino, and all across Europe. You’ve seen what happened in Paris, and Nice. All over Europe, it’s happening. It’s gotten to a point where it’s not even being reported. And in many cases the very, very dishonest press doesn’t want to report it. They have their reasons, and you understand that.

First of all, the idea that the media is reluctant to talk about these attacks should strike anyone who regularly watches cable news as absurd, since Fox News loves nothing more than throwing up a hysterical, all-caps terror-related chyron and shouting about it for what feels like eight uninterrupted hours. More troubling, though, is the source from which President Trump appears to be copying his homework. As Aaron Blake of the Washington Post astutely points out, the loudest drum-banger for the idea that the media "covers up" terror attacks is InfoWars, the tinfoil-hat-adorned Angelfire-looking site helmed by Alex Jones, the Loose Change producer who thinks the government was behind Sandy Hook.

President Trump's tendency to parrot his media outlets of choice is well-documented, and this isn't the first time he has fawned over Jones in particular. But the reason this talking point is so dangerous is because it purports to tidily account for the gaping holes in the lies the President tells in support of his agenda. The falsehood that the media doesn't report terrorist events is literally impossible for most Americans, whose source of information on terrorist attacks is the media, to verify. So when Trump argues that America needs to ban Muslims or reject refugees or do God knows what else, and cites vague "terrorist attacks" as justification, he can dismiss the lack of corresponding evidence as attributable to reporting, not to reality.

The press' role in a democracy is to report the facts so that the public can form their own opinions about their leaders' actions. And if Trump's assertion that the press is withholding this information is pretty scary, his willingness to fill in those gaps with the dystopian fever dreams of Alex Jones is off-the-charts terrifying.
