"Alternative Facts: Bowling Green Massacre"

Trump adviser cites non-existent 'massacre' defending ban

http://www.cnn.com/2017/02/03/politics/conway-bowling-green/index.html

(CNN) Senior Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway made a statement during a TV interview Thursday that pricked the ears of fact-checkers everywhere.

She told MSNBC's Chris Matthews:

"I bet it's brand new information to people that President Obama had a six-month ban on the Iraqi refugee program after two Iraqis came here to this country, were radicalized and they were the masterminds behind the Bowling Green massacre. It didn't get covered."

First of all, Obama didn't ban the Iraqi refugee program.

Second, there's no such thing as the Bowling Green massacre.
Conway later clarified that she was referencing the case of two Iraqis -- Waad Ramadan Alwan and Mohanad Shareef Hammadi -- who lived in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Both were granted refugee status and entered the United States in 2009.

"On @hardball@NBCNews@MSNBC I meant to say 'Bowling Green terrorists' as reported here," she said, before linking to an ABC news story on the case.

This lying bitch, and I do mean bitch... smh.

her whole point in bringing up the so-called massacre was to say that the "media" didn't even report on it as if the media was trying to somehow cover it up. she's sowing those seeds of doubt that maybe there was a massacre and the media is the one lying. even when she tried to walk it back she left some room there for doubt. i would not at all be surprised if some Trump supporters believe this is a real thing.

For what it's worth, I think she just misspoke. But I also believe that it's important to speak cautiously & carefully when you're in positions of power. This administration has thrown that idea out the window which is why people are parsing their every statement so closely.

I think this was the main reason 90% if the time Barack Obama responded to media in regards to policy, he very deliberately spoke slowly. It was annoying to me at times since I imagined he didn't speak like that when he was having a normal one-on-one casual conversation, but now I realize why he spoke in that manner. The gears must have been turning in his head as he was speaking.

"the *masterminds* behind the Bowling Green *massacre*" is not just a slip of the tongue

she gets no pass

Just like Spicer said Iran attacked one of "our" ships, and had to be corrected by a member of the press that it was a Saudi ship.

I dont care if it was a mistake or not, this isn't a fucking game. This administration just says whatever the fuck they feel like, and they get away with it.

How are you a journalist and let that slip by unchallenged? Is he even listening?
He does that a lot. I think it's because he is often just waiting for his chance to talk again.
And I don't think he does much research before interviews either.

But on Kellyanne. She wouldn't go up there and just try to manufacture a massacre. She knows that is too obvious.
I think her talking points for the day had the massacres in the US and in Europe, and a mention of the Bowling Green terrorists because people are mentioning that no attacks happened from those 7 countries.
She just got her references mixed up.

Once to TMZ, who didn't catch it. And then she tried to peddle during an interview in Cosmopolitan. Cosmo actually did the fact checking, found out it was bullshit, and didn't publish the quote.

Cite the two Bowling Green terrorist refugees? Get a dust particle of coverage.

Misspeak and call it a massacre? Get a volcano of coverage.

Now, that volcano of coverage must include an explanation of how she misspoke, and the explanation, by definition, has to include the fact that two terrorists were admitted to the USA as refugees. So you just got a volcano of coverage about how the USA has a history of admitting terrorists as immigrants.

Meanwhile, the consequences of misspeaking are pretty much nil. People who are already triggered are more triggered -- no sweat of Trump's back. And people who aren't already triggered still don't give a shit.

Trump's camp is 10 steps ahead.

I don't think people care that much. We'll see. At minimum, the strategic advantage of the huge MSM coverage of this is immense. You think the decreased public opinion will outweigh that advantage, and I do not. We'll see what plays out.

Like I know she lies. But not blatantly obvious, dumb lies. Those are usually left for the boss.

Her lies are usually more like half truths and misrepresentations. That way she keeps a little bit of room to spin
